Remember this song was so popular in village back when I was very young and I couldn't comprehend the message behind the lyrics back then, what a beautiful song
I watched Joseph Shabalala's documentary, by looking at this video i understand the statement that was made by his son saying some of the songs and actions Joseph taught them you can see were not for people living in this world because he used to get his music from dreams. He said we followed his lead though they see that this is not for normal people. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The sing is in my language but it imprtant to note that is more poeting to be interpreted just by literal language because only half of what is said in this song is literal. Howrver I will try to give the o etal mening of the song. The song writter call the ideas and thoughts of our forefathers mountains (by forefathers he refer to African firefathers in general). He call their thoughts mountains may be because of difficalties of they had in implementing those ideas he call them mountains. The the literal part of the song is a warni g to Africans to stop coping western music at the expense of our precious African music. He insist that we must throw away ONLY everything against God the Almight but not our African treasures especially in our music. Indeed Joseph Shabalala and Ladysmith Black represent us since it had been researched how our forefathers use to sing 300 years ago with the help of many people he met. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a link between the padt and present. Interpretation of each song is detailed in the offi ial CD.

in the mountains our fore fathers always wished us well. We are grateful to God and forefathers. We need to appropriate what we have been given by God and avoid wanting what doesn't or wasn't meant for us (Sidumela izinto zabantu) means 'going for other people's things
They were not talking on the surface though.they meant that we should not foresale our heritage for other people,s things like culture and music.he bemoans our people running away from their own to be others like say to be like the British when we are africans.in other he is encouraging us to appreciate our gifts from God /ancestors
Anyone who knows the title of their song with these lyrics: wonke umuntu ufunda ngamaphutha, omunye izamphatha kamnandi, omunye izamphatha kabuhlungu, omunye uzothi amanga lawa, omunye uzothi ayikho lento?

Basically, as Africans we should not give up our own traditions and take others from other people. Presumably western ideas and traditions...
