When we lived out in the country (45 yrs ago) we raised our own beef, had chicken and duck eggs, a large garden where I canned, dried and froze food. We lived off our land (we had venison and bear too)and it was the best 10 years of our marriage. We moved from the city to the country and then back to the city. My heart and mind always go back to my country home. Open the freezer pull out some meat, frozen corn (tasted like fresh off the cob), string beans, tomatoes, apple sauce whatever I felt like. Made my own bread. Very seldom did I have to go into town for food. Good days, happy days. I love your vlogs and enjoy watching you cook. One of these days I shall try to make those little round thumb pastas you make. Looked really good along with the pesto sauce.

Morning from The Lake District, Cumbria. Nicki, did you know your strelizias, the mauve/ purple protusion of the flower holds all the pollen? Press it down gently with your finger and it opens for the birds to feed on. So a bird lands on this protusion and their weight opens the area for them to savour. Have a wonderful day!

I love watching your garden grow and develop over the seasons.
Here in New Zealand we have started a program in primary school to teach children how to grow veges and where they come from. It also teaches them about vegetables they may have never seen before.
So as funny as it seems the viewer who thought veges were grown in a supermarket... its easy to see why.
I did have a wee giggle though
Ps on the bitter pesto.. ibe used walnuts in mine before and I remember it being bitter.

Nicki a really good vlog on how to source and swap food. We do this here and for me it has been more about community than actual produce. x I have been thinking about YT and the creators I watch. When you consider that production companies take months to put together a TV show - maybe 1/2 an hours worth of viewer time. I am in AWE of YT creators who do this in stressful days. Also, how when as a viewer we all watch many channels and the uploads come in thick and fast - I try to make sure I watch with as much attention as the creators put into their vlogs. Appreciate all you do - if it was only once a week and longer - it would never distract from your channel. Just a thought x

You have inspired me to grow more vegetables but this year our vegetable garden is currently a spot to keep a mound of dirt from projects that we have going on. I was hoping to get the dirt cleared before it was time to plant but that isn't going to happen with all the rain we are having. 😔
