    1/3 cup peeled split mung bean
    1/8 tsp salt
    1/2 cup water
    1 cup frozen grated coconut, thawed
    1/2 cup roasted peanuts, unsalted
    1/4 cup water
    1/4 cup sugar
    Dough:
    2 cups Mochiko glutinous/sweet rice flour amzn.to/2jEYfYZ
    1 cup boiling water
    1/4 cup sugar
    food coloring: yellow, pink and Pandan paste
    Cake Coating:
    1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
    Yields: 24 cakes

    I love them! They're almost too cute to eat. Almost. LOL! One of my favorite fillings is that coconut and peanut combo. I've never had the combination you used with mung beans before so that's really cool. There's this treat I ate when I was younger that I absolutely love that uses roasted coconut, peanuts, sugar...it's glutinous rice steamed in a banana leaf. Will you ever make something like that? Would love to see your recipe. Thanks for sharing this awesome treat!

    I like your version of Banh Bao Chi. I like that you boil the glutinous rice flour ball vs microwave. I'm just tainted with microwaving food. I also like how meticulous you are with your food preparation. Rolling the logs that even takes skill. Very impressed!

    Thank you. I will try this. I'm wondering if they taste the same as bánh xoài in miền Trung, Vietnam. My daughter had one in Hội An and she loved it. The fillings had sesame seeds instead.

      Hi Andrew, wish I could say I had bánh xoài in miền Trung, it sounds delish! For bánh xoài , the dough is prepared differently and has egg, coconut milk, etc. The texture is about the same. Anyway, I hope you try the recipe. I think your daughter would really enjoy it.

    Hi there, can we microwave the dough instead of boiling it? Thank you, I love to eat this snack cake so I bought bunch in the market those products of Taiwan, but not good. I see the ad on local FB for selling this cake so I buy it rite away $10 for 15. The flavor are like my young hood favorite. I will try to make it some days.

      Hi G-Huong Tiana, I give it a quick rinse to wash off any impurities, specks of coconut shell. It's an optional step. I don't do this all the time, just with certain brands of frozen foods. :)

      Yes Nghi, this would work. You can make the roll and freeze the cakes. Next day or later, boil the cakes and coat with shredded coconut. Enjoy!

    Can the frozen coconut be replaced by unsweetened coconut shreds/flakes?

      Yes, you can use unsweetened coconut shreds or flakes. If using the dried coconut, add a bit more water to rehydrate. If using the moist coconut, no additional water is needed. Enjoy the recipe.

      The Snowball Cakes are best enjoyed the day they are made. Refrigerate any remaining. To serve again, warm in the microwave using Low power for 20-30 seconds.

    Em rat thich an banh nay. Let me tell you something funny. Today I have guest coming over. I never failed a first try of a recipe by your cooking videos, so I thought let's make some banh bao chi today. I scooped out 12 balls, you 24. I was like it can't be wher did it go wrong. I watched your video again and I didn't hear you say a mini ice scoop 😅😅. I wasn't sure if I can break the balls to roll into little ones, so I just let the 12 big balls. Once it's done my family were thrilled to taste. One bite and it was soo much filling not delicious at all. No more banh bao chi for me they said 😅😅

    Hallo, is glutinous Rice flour the same is what you called glutinous sweet Rice flour? Please can you show which onze is oké?

      "Glutinous rice flour" and "sweet rice flour" are the same. In the video description where the ingredients are listed, there's a link to the sweet rice flour I used. Hope that helps!

    What could I sub for the mung beans to make the filling? I have the other ingredients, but in the very rural US there is no way to get the beans. I'd love to make these this week, not wait forever for the beans to arrive.

      Chickpeas/garbanzo beans or any mild-tasting bean would be good substitute for mung bean. Use the canned chickpeas to save some time. Enjoy the recipe!

      I made the filling without the mung bean, and I liked it. Increase the amount of peanut and coconut. Pulverize half of the peanut to create a paste so the filling can stick together to loosely form a ball.
