Excellent, especially for me, I am 81 and still doing Aikido. I am now only 130 pounds and 5'5", but can still throw others much younger and bigger than me. Aikido is for life.
Ever since I was a child watching the economy of effort demonstrated by a true martial artist has fascinated and confused me... watching this brought a smile to my face; simple yet complex the demonstration shows all that a good teacher and master is. Thank you.
It's bullshit my friend Aikido does not work on resisting opponents there's countless case studies. It confuses you because it doesn't look right, because it's not right.
@@CallousCarter I read these on somewhere, but no idea if they're true: • Aikido is actually for people who already know a martial art. Ueshiba wanted to help people who knew how to fight but want to avoid violence. • Aikido also teaches what to do when people lose their swords/how to steal the opponent's sword. That makes sense when you look at the techniques because people don't hold hands in a normal fight unless the opponent holds something. *Edit:* Saw this comment today: "I trained in Aikido for some time when I was young. Most of techniques start with the opponent grabbing you or your wrists. This was motivated by my sensei like this: "Aikido is born in warring times when people would have a sword. If you have a sword and the opponent does not want you to use it, he will try to grab your wrists and that is where the techniques stem from." The sword training part is not anymore part of a lot of Aikido teachings, but that also means that the self defense part of Aikido is more a self defense from who does not want you to use your sword. It is only natural that it is not usable without weapons. The same blows that are thrown are a mimic of the sword techniques. It looks like it has been to watered down that the attack patterns have been almost completely taken away from it. There is weapon training, but I never saw unarmed training in my years." You misread my comment... I do not say Aikido confuses me but that the economy of effort used by a master of martial arts is a thing of beauty and, by extension, a confusion of the senses. I have seen a 80 year old woman, slight as a hummingbirds wing, throw an insolent 18 year old hulk of a boy with ease and have been privileged to learn some small amount from some skilled teachers. If I were ever to lose the fascination my lack of understanding generates within me my soul would be the poorer for that loss and after more than 50 years of study I still find beauty in discovering the hidden skill within the simplest of movements.
