  • This video shows the process of cutting and affixing endpapers to the book block I made in Part 1, followed by the trimming process. These steps were meant to be included in Part 2, but the footage somehow got deleted. Luckily I found the files in a backup folder, so I have made this video to bridge Part 1 and Part 2.

Book binding is an art. One of the problem doing it by hand is how to smoothen the edges without the use of big bulky cutting press. You showed it to me by using sharp chisel and diy press. Thank you for sharing.

I'm glad you found my video useful. Big tools help in the process but it can still be done with everyday items and a bit of knowledge.

I use a hand plane! Just make sure it’s Sharp and clamped really well. It cuts better than wood. Not surprising, but it’s neat.

It's amazing how you did the book trimming with a chisel. I struggle with this a lot.

Nice to see a method that those of us that don't have hundreds or thousands of dollars in equipment could use.

Would love to know how you prefer to sharpen your chisels.

Question... at 5:44 as you finish trimming the book it looks like the wooden bottom of the side you were working toward is higher than the wooden side you were resting the chisel on as you make cuts. Is this correct? If so... how does the Finishing press sit flat when using it flipped over the other way?

Do you ever have to replace your chisel when/if it grows dull? Or is there a sharpening method to refresh the blade?

Which type of glue did you use?
And how much paper was needed?
I love this series, very helpful! :)

The glue was archival PVA, and as for the paper... I honestly don't remember how much. Maybe about 8 sheets 65cm x 50 cm?

    Hi,
Can I know what is the name of the paper that you use for the covering with some decorative and colourful structures?

It's called marbled paper which I make myself. I sell my papers in my Etsy shop - check the video description for a link.

Great vid. Do you have a short tutorial on how to make the stitches you just used?

Are you referring to the stitching of the signatures (page papers)?
You should be able to follow along with what he's doing by watching closely what he does in the first video.

How many layers of glue do you use on the spine? Is one enough or there are multiple?

    • @FourKeysBookArts
      @FourKeysBookArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I usually glue it once before rounding, then again after to help maintain that rounding, especially if I add a paper lining.
