Chris has talked about being really harsh on the kids during their trainee days bc he really wanted them to be in his team. The reason it took him so long to debut was because, despite him being at the level to debut, many of the other trainees would get cut so he never had a team to debut with The medals are from his swimming competitions
Other guys getting cut has nothing to do with him not being able to debut, he almost debuted with Got7 but the company just decided he wasn't ready yet. They wouldn't have entrusted a guy who was known to lose his teammates by being too rash and upsetting people with this project. They trusted Chan to be a good leader and the extra time he spent training was most likely to make sure he had all the qualities they wanted to see in the person they chose for that position.
22:13 yeah...he doesn't talk about his trainee years often (or in detail) but if we are being honest, leaving at 15 and the whole trainee period definitely gave him depression and bunch of trauma and issues because OF COURSE IT WOULD. he had mentioned couple of times that the other members saved him and that he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. They later released a Japanese version on their Japanese album....The Sound. Chans medals are for swimming. Because he excelled at it, his father became a coach and opened his own swim centre. He also helps to train para Olympians. Berry is a King Charles spaniel. She is the most loved member of SKZ.

When it comes to producing, in Korea it is often used as a general term for all aspects so it is always best to look at the credits to get a better idea because while all 3racha are called producers, people in the west might call only the people who make the tracks producers so it wiuld only be Chan. For skz credits people who make the beats/instrumental are in arrangement credits. The beats are usually made by other producers and Chan (he has arrangement credits for about a third or half of their songs). Then there are credits for composing, which is for creating the melody and rap (so the topline that goes over the instrumental that people sing). And then lyrics or writing credits are lyrics. For these two aspects all members of 3racha are usually credited for majority of the songs. Han and Changbin often make the verses (for example Changbin makes verse 1 and Han makes verse 2), Chan often makes the chorus and bridge but it differs from aong to song. Sometimes Changbin makes the chorus, Chan the prechorus etc. When they record, they direct the part of the song that they composed/wrote, so it is good to watch the recording videos. Other members also have these credits for some of the songs. They also often work on songs with Chan (for example Hyunjin and Chan made Red Lights or Cover Me, Chan and Felix made FNF or Runners, Chan and Changbin made many songs together too). If you hear someone mention a Han song it is a song that Han made the melody and lyrics for (there are many) and Chan or other producers made the instrumental for. Other members also make songs alone like that. Just look at the credits. With time you can notice what style of songs each of them like to make.😊

Everyone can of course incorporate some ideas or ask Chan or other producers for a specific kind of track, just like Han and Binnie did when they asked for a drill beat for "3racha". So everyone has a lot of tracks from Chan or other producers that they individually work on as composers/song-writers.

The spoilers will help you determine which songs you want to react to before others. The guide is meant to learn about the kids and the spoilers are a big part of it. For example, Lee Knows’s part in Levanter was only to show you his vocal abilities but it’s so short that you wouldn’t be able to tell what the song sounds like.

Song credits =/= songs. Also self-produced does not mean independent. They write their songs and since 2020'ish Bang Chan also is heavily involved in studio recording technical stuff like audio editing and programming. What's being referenced here is most likely KOMCA (Korean Music Copyright Association) credits and these include lyrics writings, composing, arrangement. Highly recommend using Genius for credits in the future. -Racha suffix is like a grouping thing(?) adopted by the rest of SKZ after the debut. Cuz they already had 3RCAHA for music production, then Lee Know, Hyunjin and Felix whose focus was on dancing during trainee days (plus Lee Know was already a professional dancer and training to be a choreographer before even joining JYPE) so they become Danceracha, and Seungmin and I.N are Vocalracha cuz their focus was on vocal. THEN there's a subgenre of -rachas like Nyangracha (Lee Know, Felix), Puppyracha (Chan, Seungmin), Paboracha/Dummyracha (Lee Know, Hyunjin, Han), Bunnyracha (Lee Know, Changbin), 2RACHA (Changbin, Han, especially when the two have lyric exchanges in songs). I don’t know if there’s already been a comment about it so I’m gonna put it here because when I first gotten to K-pop generations also confused me. Basically, the first generation was the first round of K-pop idols as we know them. Since then, each generation marks a new style of K-pop music or idols. so just whenever K-pop goes through a big transitional period and sound or dance or concept we call that a new generation. For example, generation two has 2NE1, big bang, and so on.. generation three has BTS, red velvet, BLACKPINK got7, and seventeen. Generation four is stray kids, ateez, TXT, aespa… and we are currently in engine five so anyone who abuse between now and the next generation is considered GEN 5! It’s really confusing and honestly don’t think about it too hard. It’s just letting you know that they debuted around the same time as other artists in the generation. personally, I’ve always found this guide a little confusing.. so I’m just gonna kind of answer your questions as I watch. I think with the guide means by formed is the first time they referred to themselves as the unit name. Like the date for dance racha I know is the first dance racha Vlive they ever did. So I’m assuming that that’s what they mean. but the groups were formed before debut.

OK, I’m back! Sorry if this is annoying, but I genuinely just want to help so let me know if my help is not wanted. I finally finished your reaction and was going to answer some of your questions… Like I said in a previous comment, this may be one of the most informative, lacking guides for Stray Kids. Like it tells you so much but contextualizes so little.. and I think you’re super cool so I thought I would answer your questions all in one place. 1. Is how they formed new for K-pop or just JYP? So it is new for both, to my knowledge, there is not another K-pop group that is formed this way. At least not formed this way and then been so successful! And certainly not a Big 4 group. And JYP hasn’t done this since. 2. What does Chan not part when it comes to their songs? so 3racha have composing arrangement and or lyric credits on every song on the discography. To my knowledge, there is only one where they didn’t have all three credits. (But please correct me if I’m wrong. because their discography is ginormous). they have three main producers, and I believe they are in-house producers for the company that help them, mostly just with getting things cleared to the company or if they want to try a new style, things like that. And they do have to get everything cleared through so they send off multiple demos before they decide on a title track but they get to decide what songs to send to them for the album and what songs they want considered for the title track. JYP could give recommendations, but the group is known to do their own thing. 3. someone answered this, but you mentioned Chan now vs survival show and I thought I’d give my perspective. So, like Chan and the guide dimension he was training for a very long time. Personally I think that if JYP didn’t like him, he would’ve been kicked out a long time ago. JYP had the idea to make Chan form a group, and proposed it as if it was his last chance to debut. So in the survival show Chan was really focused on getting all of them debut. So he was really really hard on them. all of the members have mentioned it at some point, that they wouldn’t debuted if Chan had been more lenient and Chan has said that he feels bad about it, so I feel like the reason we see him so soft and caring and loving is his way to try and make up for all of the hardship he put them through to get them to this point. now here are just some extra tidbits that will fill in some context that was missing from the guide: (sorry in advance of anything has been answered by comments already) - Woojin: depending on what you ask, you’ll get a different opinion. So I will try and stick to the facts and what is known, to make it less confusing and so you can come up with an opinion of your own because every stay has one. Right before they came back with Levanter, WJ announced his departure from the group. Citing personal matters as the reason. people called BS and basically started making compilations of WJ harassing/bullying the members. The group has never made a statement about why WJ actually had to leave. He is now under new management and still an idol I think? I don’t really keep up with him. I know his company released a video or two that made it seem like he was the underdog and honestly came from a very bitter place which is why I don’t personally support him. Because while stay was not very nice, stray kids had to completely refilm their music video to not include him, redo their storyline for it to make sense that he was not there, pushback promotions because they had to redo their Choreo without him. Overall, he really screwed them over, or if he was forced to leave the company really them screwed over. Last year during stay week they talked about the Levantar era and how they felt really spiteful at the time and they watched a couple of videos of performances from then, and it was very obvious that they don’t look at Levanter very fondly. which is sad to me because it’s such a beautiful song and it’s when I became a stay. But yeah, overall it’s just a really touchy subject. And that’s kind of a very basic rundown. I suggest that you look into it more. There have been really good videos made about it. it will give you a better appreciation for Stray Kids as 8 and why stay push very hard for Stray Kids to never be broken up. - So the cover of zombie that you really liked of chan’s voice, was actually meant to be a cover between Seunmin and Han. But that day Han got sick and Chan stepped in last minute. I just think that’s a cool, fun fact. - so briefly about positions because you mentioned it earlier, and I wrote something down about it, because WJ left their positions were all messed. Seungmin went from lead vocalist to Main vocalist, which meant all of a sudden, he was getting the toughest vocal lines and the most criticism for his voice, and was supposed to lead the members in vocals. So instead of having to do that to Seungmin, they decided to split what would’ve WJ’s lines and line distribution between all of the members and so now all of them get a chance to have a chorus part or an ad Lib that’s really cool. the Racha units are used to cover that specific category of their job. For example, all of dance racha is responsible for learning the dances really well and helping all of the members with the dances and helping with choreography and positioning and still take dance lessons and things, vocal racha is in charge of vocals they attend voice lessons more frequently than any of the other members, and of course 3 Racha is in charge of production and they do a lot of the rapping. - it was touched on in the guide, but just to give you more context, Minho acts as chan’s right hand man. Chan and Minho really rely on each other. Chan before had a problem with delegating tasks and kind of held the world on his shoulders. But now he allocates them to Minho. So certain behind-the-scenes things, Minho handles. again, I apologize. I know this is a lot of information that wasn’t necessarily asked for. But I just thought I could help since I really wish whenever I was getting into Stray Kids someone would’ve done the same for me! I’m going to go watch part two now and I will probably do the same thing over there, but anyway, you’re definitely one of my reaction channels so,,, yay!!!

Just to let you know about Channie... In one of his lives, he talked about feeling so lonely being by himself in a new Country, at such a young age for so long, living mostly alone there, while watching everyone he knew debut and leave him behind, so he decided to distance himself from everyone else around him because he didn't want new people\friends to leave him again as well. He then talked about the Kids, about STRAY KIDS, and said that they saved him, (they truly saved each other) and that if it wasn't for them, he wouldn't be here anymore. That he wouldn't be on planet Earth anymore. So when you talked about his comment to his question on that life he did, when he talked about depression, loneliness, and suicidal acts\actions\thoughts and said that his friends went through those things, you said that someone talking like he does is probably talking about himself from experience and not about his friends... And you were right. Chan is always very honest with us, with STAY. He always tells us his true thoughts and feelings. This "Story" he told us about himself, the state he was in, the loneliness he felt all those years alone... really affected our fandom on a very deep level as you can probably understand... It still hurts knowing that. Even though he talked about it in his life a few years ago, it happened longer than that. That's one of the reasons STAYs love CHAN and all THE KIDS so much. They are always honest with us when they talk about their lives, and their music always reflects how they truly feel. They're never scared to show their true selves to STAYs, and we love them for that immensely. My comment is truly all over the place, so I hope you understand me. English is not my first language. The sports show you saw is ISAC its a K-pop sports event that used to happen every year I think
When it comes to producing, in Korea it is often used as a general term for all aspects so it is always best to look at the credits to get a better idea because while all 3racha are called producers, people in the west might call only the people who make the tracks producers so it wiuld only be Chan.
For skz credits people who make the beats/instrumental are in arrangement credits. The beats are usually made by other producers and Chan (he has arrangement credits for about a third or half of their songs).
Then there are credits for composing, which is for creating the melody and rap (so the topline that goes over the instrumental that people sing). And then lyrics or writing credits are lyrics. For these two aspects all members of 3racha are usually credited for majority of the songs. Han and Changbin often make the verses (for example Changbin makes verse 1 and Han makes verse 2), Chan often makes the chorus and bridge but it differs from aong to song. Sometimes Changbin makes the chorus, Chan the prechorus etc. When they record, they direct the part of the song that they composed/wrote, so it is good to watch the recording videos. Other members also have these credits for some of the songs. They also often work on songs with Chan (for example Hyunjin and Chan made Red Lights or Cover Me, Chan and Felix made FNF or Runners, Chan and Changbin made many songs together too). If you hear someone mention a Han song it is a song that Han made the melody and lyrics for (there are many) and Chan or other producers made the instrumental for. Other members also make songs alone like that. Just look at the credits. With time you can notice what style of songs each of them like to make.😊

@@frances211 I have mentioned all of them work on songs but by tracks people usually mean instrumentals, which only Chan works on. Everyone can of course incorporate some ideas or ask Chan or other producers for a specific kind of track, just like Han and Binnie did when they asked for a drill beat for "3racha". So everyone has a lot of tracks from Chan or other producers that they individually work on as composers/song-writers.

Song credits =/= songs. Also self-produced does not mean independent. They write their songs and since 2020'ish Bang Chan also is heavily involved in studio recording technical stuff like audio editing and programming. What's being referenced here is most likely KOMCA (Korean Music Copyright Association) credits and these include lyrics writings, composing, arrangement. Highly recommend using Genius for credits in the future.
-Racha suffix is like a grouping thing(?) adopted by the rest of SKZ after the debut. Cuz they already had 3RCAHA for music production, then Lee Know, Hyunjin and Felix whose focus was on dancing during trainee days (plus Lee Know was already a professional dancer and training to be a choreographer before even joining JYPE) so they become Danceracha, and Seungmin and I.N are Vocalracha cuz their focus was on vocal. THEN there's a subgenre of -rachas like Nyangracha (Lee Know, Felix), Puppyracha (Chan, Seungmin), Paboracha/Dummyracha (Lee Know, Hyunjin, Han), Bunnyracha (Lee Know, Changbin), 2RACHA (Changbin, Han, especially when the two have lyric exchanges in songs). It's 4 years old so not accounting for new stuff but overall it's still holds up since it's talking mostly about history!

I don’t know if there’s already been a comment about it so I’m gonna put it here because when I first gotten to K-pop generations also confused me. Basically, the first generation was the first round of K-pop idols as we know them. Since then, each generation marks a new style of K-pop music or idols. so just whenever K-pop goes through a big transitional period and sound or dance or concept we call that a new generation. For example, generation two has 2NE1, big bang, and so on.. generation three has BTS, red velvet, BLACKPINK got7, and seventeen. Generation four is stray kids, ateez, TXT, aespa… and we are currently in engine five so anyone who abuse between now and the next generation is considered GEN 5! It’s really confusing and honestly don’t think about it too hard. It’s just letting you know that they debuted around the same time as other artists in the generation. Sorry if that was confusing in any way I tried the best I could! And welcome to the Stay fandom

I think with the guide means by formed is the first time they referred to themselves as the unit name. Like the date for dance racha I know is the first dance racha Vlive they ever did. So I’m assuming that that’s what they mean. but the groups were formed before debut.

OK, I’m back! Sorry if this is annoying, but I genuinely just want to help so let me know if my help is not wanted. I finally finished your reaction and was going to answer some of your questions… Like I said in a previous comment, this may be one of the most informative, lacking guides for Stray Kids. Like it tells you so much but contextualizes so little.. and I think you’re super cool so I thought I would answer your questions all in one place.
1. Is how they formed new for K-pop or just JYP? So it is new for both, to my knowledge, there is not another K-pop group that is formed this way. At least not formed this way and then been so successful! And certainly not a Big 4 group. And JYP hasn’t done this since.
2. What does Chan not part when it comes to their songs? so 3racha have composing arrangement and or lyric credits on every song on the discography. To my knowledge, there is only one where they didn’t have all three credits. (But please correct me if I’m wrong. because their discography is ginormous). they have three main producers, and I believe they are in-house producers for the company that help them, mostly just with getting things cleared to the company or if they want to try a new style, things like that. And they do have to get everything cleared through so they send off multiple demos before they decide on a title track but they get to decide what songs to send to them for the album and what songs they want considered for the title track. JYP could give recommendations, but the group is known to do their own thing.
3. someone answered this, but you mentioned Chan now vs survival show and I thought I’d give my perspective. So, like Chan and the guide dimension he was training for a very long time. Personally I think that if JYP didn’t like him, he would’ve been kicked out a long time ago. JYP had the idea to make Chan form a group, and proposed it as if it was his last chance to debut. So in the survival show Chan was really focused on getting all of them debut. So he was really really hard on them. all of the members have mentioned it at some point, that they wouldn’t debuted if Chan had been more lenient and Chan has said that he feels bad about it, so I feel like the reason we see him so soft and caring and loving is his way to try and make up for all of the hardship he put them through to get them to this point.
now here are just some extra tidbits that will fill in some context that was missing from the guide: (sorry in advance of anything has been answered by comments already)
- Woojin: depending on what you ask, you’ll get a different opinion. So I will try and stick to the facts and what is known, to make it less confusing and so you can come up with an opinion of your own because every stay has one. Right before they came back with Levanter, WJ announced his departure from the group. Citing personal matters as the reason. people called BS and basically started making compilations of WJ harassing/bullying the members. The group has never made a statement about why WJ actually had to leave. He is now under new management and still an idol I think? I don’t really keep up with him. I know his company released a video or two that made it seem like he was the underdog and honestly came from a very bitter place which is why I don’t personally support him. Because while stay was not very nice, stray kids had to completely refilm their music video to not include him, redo their storyline for it to make sense that he was not there, pushback promotions because they had to redo their Choreo without him. Overall, he really screwed them over, or if he was forced to leave the company really them screwed over. Last year during stay week they talked about the Levantar era and how they felt really spiteful at the time and they watched a couple of videos of performances from then, and it was very obvious that they don’t look at Levanter very fondly. which is sad to me because it’s such a beautiful song and it’s when I became a stay. But yeah, overall it’s just a really touchy subject. And that’s kind of a very basic rundown. I suggest that you look into it more. There have been really good videos made about it. it will give you a better appreciation for Stray Kids as 8 and why stay push very hard for Stray Kids to never be broken up.
- So the cover of zombie that you really liked of chan’s voice, was actually meant to be a cover between Seunmin and Han. But that day Han got sick and Chan stepped in last minute. I just think that’s a cool, fun fact.
- so briefly about positions because you mentioned it earlier, and I wrote something down about it, because WJ left their positions were all messed. Seungmin went from lead vocalist to Main vocalist, which meant all of a sudden, he was getting the toughest vocal lines and the most criticism for his voice, and was supposed to lead the members in vocals. So instead of having to do that to Seungmin, they decided to split what would’ve WJ’s lines and line distribution between all of the members and so now all of them get a chance to have a chorus part or an ad Lib that’s really cool.
the Racha units are used to cover that specific category of their job. For example, all of dance racha is responsible for learning the dances really well and helping all of the members with the dances and helping with choreography and positioning and still take dance lessons and things, vocal racha is in charge of vocals they attend voice lessons more frequently than any of the other members, and of course 3 Racha is in charge of production and they do a lot of the rapping.
- it was touched on in the guide, but just to give you more context, Minho acts as chan’s right hand man. Chan and Minho really rely on each other. Chan before had a problem with delegating tasks and kind of held the world on his shoulders. But now he allocates them to Minho. So certain behind-the-scenes things, Minho handles.
again, I apologize. I know this is a lot of information that wasn’t necessarily asked for. But I just thought I could help since I really wish whenever I was getting into Stray Kids someone would’ve done the same for me! I’m going to go watch part two now and I will probably do the same thing over there, but anyway, you’re definitely one of my reaction channels so,,, yay!!!

Just to let you know about Channie...
In one of his lives, he talked about feeling so lonely being by himself in a new Country, at such a young age for so long, living mostly alone there, while watching everyone he knew debut and leave him behind, so he decided to distance himself from everyone else around him because he didn't want new people\friends to leave him again as well.
He then talked about the Kids, about STRAY KIDS, and said that they saved him, (they truly saved each other) and that if it wasn't for them, he wouldn't be here anymore. That he wouldn't be on planet Earth anymore.
So when you talked about his comment to his question on that life he did, when he talked about depression, loneliness, and suicidal acts\actions\thoughts and said that his friends went through those things, you said that someone talking like he does is probably talking about himself from experience and not about his friends... And you were right.
Chan is always very honest with us, with STAY. He always tells us his true thoughts and feelings.
This "Story" he told us about himself, the state he was in, the loneliness he felt all those years alone... really affected our fandom on a very deep level as you can probably understand...
It still hurts knowing that. Even though he talked about it in his life a few years ago, it happened longer than that.
That's one of the reasons STAYs love CHAN and all THE KIDS so much. They are always honest with us when they talk about their lives, and their music always reflects how they truly feel.
They're never scared to show their true selves to STAYs, and we love them for that immensely.
