I figured there would be some differences but it was nice to see them in an informative video. Would you consider a video regarding the differences a 38T gear would cause, like one of the gentleman in the comments mentioned? Thanks Evolve, keep up the good work.
Thanks for doing this video. I'm glad you did and appreciate the transparency, it shows a quality brand and customer focused company... I knew there would be a difference in performance but didn't think it would be that much, but it totally makes sense. I dont know if it's possible to make a setup for heavier riders, different belts, or bigger more ventilated motors with more torque as opposed to top speed. I'm currently shaving off a few kgs but will never go below 92kg with my build so not a huge difference. I dont think I would be fully happy with that performance so I'm going to hold off getting an Evolve for now.
I would second this, I wander between 112kg rest weight & 96kg fight weight. My evolve experience is great still at 112kg but would love it if there was a more torquey robust version for us big boned'd guys 😂

I really enjoyed this video - very informative and interesting. It clearly showed just what a difference weight makes when riding an electric skateboard.
Once up to speeds the small difference in top speed might also be explained by the bigger wind resistance(bigger size). but probably possible to just throw away as margin of error anyway
That was an informatively cool video guys. My weight is around 95kgs so seeing how the boards react to different riding conditions is good to know. Cheers
This finally answered so many of my questions! Excellent vid!! I'm 100+kg and bought the GTX because of its big motors. I am on a mission though, to keep my weight in double digits. Great review guys! Thanks.
No, in the vast majority of situations the weigh doesn't play a big role. As this video highlights, just be aware it does make a difference to range and don't push the extremes too far.

Good informative video, am curious if you have yet to do a comparison range 7" vs 6" and also is there a range difference running Pro mode to GTR mode with the avg speeds similar also?
6" & 7" are fairly similar and either can give better mileage depending on how you ride. GTR will use more battery especially if there is a lot of hills, grass, or bursts of acceleration.
Thanks for this, about to change from A segway scooter to GTR carbon for my daily commute. As a 95kg man usually carrying a 7kg backpack this is great to know. Still going to pick up the GTR. A y-tool (comes with the board) is pretty much all you need for on the run adjustments. A spare set of belts and a tube or two is always good to have too especially if doing a lot of off-road riding. Enjoy!
is a bigger motor option something evolve may look into in the future for us slightly heavier riders? maybe something like duel Flipsky 6374 which individually have as much power as the combined power of the current GTR motors
No, the motor itself isn't necessarily the weak point. A bigger motor will increase strain on other parts of the electronic system and throw out the balance we have created with the GTR.
So, a couple of years ago I bought a Boosted Board and brought it to Peru. Now I'm dying to buy a Bamboo GTR All Terrain but it seems that I won't be able to get in an airplane with it? Could you tell me if there's a way to bring it with me to Peru?
A quick question please, the max range given on electric skateboards. At what speed is it measured. Example. My board has 3 speed settings 35 K 20k and about 12 k . Is it safe to assume is measured on the mid setting or not.
Every brand measures them differently. We measure a 'real world' scenario such as this, but other brands measure it at a slow speed in the lowest mode.
damn even the evolve couldn't get up that hill with weight. Makes me wonder if an esk8 is even worth it for my 250 lb self or if i should just stick to my normal board. Just doesnt seem fun paying 2 grand to get half the advertised range and that much of a loss in hill climbing ability.
Keep in mind these tests show the extremes. That hill is STEEP - not the kind most people will encounter on a normal ride. The heavier rider achieves about 85% advertised range too so actually closer to what is correct than the lighter guy!
How is it possible to get this range, im 70kg Bgtr 6"tires (50psi) 47th gear and with full battery i get only 20-22km Gtr mode and Yes i know he is use 7" tires and 66th gear. Temperature is now +8-11c and i dont think the temperature makes that big of a difference on the range?? Could the battery be broken? The board is only 9 months old!
The wheel set up and temperature would make a difference, but the main difference would be riding style. While the boys rode in GTR, Nick didn't do a huge amount of start/stop acceleration, and he wasn't sitting at top speed the entire time. 22KM is low range for your weight, so either you are riding very aggressively (which is fun, we don't blame you), or other factors are at play like your belts being too tight.
Strange, using larger AT wheels to test hill climbing ability? I wonder how the test would differ using 80-90mm hub motors/wheels instead? Smaller wheels are definitely better for climbing hills.
The battery management system keeps everything balanced so charging it every night, or every 3rd night won't make much of a difference to the longevity of the board.
Exactly, I went with another brand that supports 220KG load up 30% hill with a speed of 25km/h but I weigh 99KG so it will fly up that hill without even a sweat
Chad Priddy I’m the heavy guy in this video (227lbs). I’ve ridden everything from Boosteds to the Chinese brands to the super high end boards. There’s nothing at the GTR price point that can compare with its climb ability on AT wheels.
This just means, that Evolve needs to make a board with bigger motors and better batteries for heavier people. I’ll be waiting. Been waiting since the carbon GT came out. The GTR’s I’m not impress
The motor itself isn't necessarily the weak point. A bigger motor will increase strain on other parts of the electronic system and throw out the balance we have created with the GTR.
Weight makes a huge difference. My Carbon GT esc burnt out on me while I was going up a steep long hill. I’m about 230lbs, (that’s about 105kg). Not so good on your part Evolve. Use better ESC!!
Ur just too heavy. The board has a max rider weight of 220 pounds as stated on their site.. Anything heavier will add a strain to the motors and would cause them to eventually over heat in certain conditions like hills
Eh not worth buying I'm 99kg and if a board starts smoking and overheating, that's a no buy, good board overall but MOST people would weigh in around 90+ KG for a tall guy, it should be engineered little better
At 100kg it won't be overheating unless you put it under extreme situations like this test. In comparison, most eSkate boards would not actually make it up a hill that long and steep.
@@evolveSkateboards Well the issue is that I live in real hilly areas that are 20-25% and the boards are rated 25%, I know a board called BioBoard that can go up to 80kmh and up 32% hill with a load of 155kg but max is 220kg for normal road or slight hill

It's an incredibly long and steep hill that most people would never face in their cities, with a very heavy rider too. Many brands will just say 30% o a spec sheet, we are being transparent in what you should expect from your boards.
@@evolveSkateboards I do appreciate transparency and honesty, props for that. However, without any ill will or snark on my end, the talk in the forums and elsewhere about evolve is that you guys used to be near the top of the hill, but with improvements in many production boards and the accessibility of easy to assemble kits that deliver way more power and speed than evolve currently supplies, your product line is not evolving to keep up with current specs. I’m skinny but live on an island 🌴 so do I have to worry about my GTR overheating 🥵??
You should more worry about drowning.
@@7Boots I'm dying lmao
Im a 130kgs!! My poor board 😢
Sell that and get a BioBoards they are SuperB.. It's the Ferrari of boards but at a Hyundai price ahah
Do a street comparison
Great vid!.. I always knew being a hobbit had its advantages, now I know exactly what they are. Ps. What helmet is Matty wearing?
Gareth Samuel It’s a 10 year old Protec! Skate helmet with a pattern I drew myself.
@@aguycalledmatty9512 I want one. Thanks for replying!
all terrain consumes :)
Call me crazy but 2k is steep as hell for a board that will barely get you up a decent hill at around 200 lbs.
Chad Priddy I’m the heavy guy in this video (227lbs). I’ve ridden everything from Boosteds to the Chinese brands to the super high end boards. There’s nothing at the GTR price point that can compare with its climb ability on AT wheels.
I'm 250 pounds and working hard to lose at least 40 more tlb4 buying my gr carbon fiber
This just means, that Evolve needs to make a board with bigger motors and better batteries for heavier people. I’ll be waiting. Been waiting since the carbon GT came out. The GTR’s I’m not impress
well it looks like i need to lose some weight, bummer :/
Why don’t you sell bigger motors
The motor itself isn't necessarily the weak point. A bigger motor will increase strain on other parts of the electronic system and throw out the balance we have created with the GTR.
You need bigger and stronger motors for the bigger guys maybe. Cheers.
I'd love to be on the light end of the spectrum!
🤔 I can definitely make it to me mums house.
26 miles on AT??????!! 😒😒😒😒😒😒
@@StrikeAa0 That board is also 2-3 times the price of a GTR. We made this video so you can make an informed decision on what board is right for you.
@@evolveSkateboards Hmmm what is the most powerful board you guys have
@@StrikeAa0 The GTR Series is our flagship model. It is designed to be the most versatile board on the market with a great balance of top speed, carve ability, terrain options and price.
Hi evolve you still have t got back to my email !!!
So is evolve subliminally telling us to lay off the cheeseburgers and big macs?
Eat all the burgers you want! But they come at the cost of less range...
Glad I’m a rake.
Maybe i shouldn't have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch... LOL
Change the title. This is about weight, not body composition
So for the World Cup it’s really not fair to race against people with lower weight 😝
It doesn't help to be heavy... But skill is a pretty huge factor when it comes to racing too!
On the other side you might be able to take sharper turns with more weight
@@evolveSkateboards on a short track maybe but that's definitely not fair! your demo show so much difference and with equal skills if you re fat you loose that's a fact.
If u really stood behind the product..then why not get the competitions boards and run the test with the evolve boards.. see in reality if evolve are better
This video was about educating riders about their boards capabilities, not about showcasing the performance. If you have any specific tests you'd like to see let us know! In the meantime here is a Evolve vs Boosted comparison - th-cam.com/video/6yskbH-OlwE/w-d-xo.html
One of the few times it pays to be a half 🍺 pint 🍻
I’m 210lbs and my diy board will eat that hill up.
230 and same here.
@@StainsAndGrains what’s your set up!?
@@enjoyesk8978 12s4p, focbox, 190kv, custom deck
@@StainsAndGrains awesome! I have the same set up in my one board. Did you make your deck?
@@enjoyesk8978 Naw, I actually am a woodworker but I don't know how to make decks, I had a local guy make me this 48" switchblade style, it's badass. And these components...man, I can't hold throttle full for more than 3 seconds or i'm legit going too fast, even up hills, I can't find it's limits yet. I see this guy with smoking motors going up a hill and just can't imagine my setup doing that.
Which ones the fat one?
Sounds like I will need to lose weight to get more benefits outs of the evolve skateboard
In the majority of situations, the weigh doesn't make too much of a difference, this video highlights the extreme circumstances.
Wow, that hill climb is not the best advert for evolve boards...
When people start comparing your price tag/performance against others...well, there seem to be better, stronger, builds out there.
do this with people who are actually fat. 300+
