  • How to build your own MMA, Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling mat.
    Here is a list of the items I purchased:
    * The wrestling mat- akathletics.com/collections/w...
    Also try Craigslist and other sites, find the best price you can.
    * Mat tape - www.amazon.com/Gamecraft-Feet...
    Get the 4-inch wide, it's better.
    * Google and shop around for the rest of the products -- 2x4 wood, plywood boards, carpet padding, wrestling mat cleaner, spray bottles, black duck tape, multipurpose adhesive glue, swiffer and washable mop, etc.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Just a few notes to add that are not mentioned in my video:
    1. A great thing about my mat is that it is very easy to take it all apart and transport it. This mat design is the best for personal home use.
    2. Puzzle mats could be used instead of the wrestling mat, I just prefer a wrestling mat.
    3. Problems you might run into is the duct tape coming off of the 2 by 4 wood pieces so make sure to use a lot of tape or re-tape underneath.... and another issue is with the carpet padding coming unglued from the plywood. I suggest stapling the first carpet padding to the plywood and then using the multi-purpose glue to glue the other carpet padding pieces to each other.
    let me know any other ideas you all have or any questions

      @@LC-hv1qn in feet or meters if its in meters perfectly its giant if its in feet i would say 12x12 would be my minimum standard. Think that you are gonna be fighting and then throwed so i would say its needed a bit of free space.

    I really like this. Although I was a little disappointed to find you already had actual wrestling mats. I thought it was going to be from scratch. Anyway, if I ever get the space for this, I'll definitely build this.

    I don't know if you would know or not, but how thick should the mat and the padding be if you're planning to practice something as intense as Catch Wrestling or something to that affect?
    Thanks in advance if you can help but if not, have a terrific day!

    • @Fairshanks
      @Fairshanks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably at least 4 inch thick for mat and carpet padding combined thickness

  • @judobreakdowns7616

    like the video, cool at home set up for sure. Breakfalls need work though, no point hitting the mat with your hand after you already landed.

    So where do you get a top part, the circled one?

  • @s216674
    @s216674 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    What's the thickness of the wrestling mat you purchased? That would make a good deal of difference as to the necessity of carpet padding underneath I would think. I have some 2 inch thick wrestling mat on order right now, but it seems like most of what I see out there is and inch and a quarter. Nice vid. Thanks!

    • @Fairshanks
      @Fairshanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The mat is 1 ⅜” thick.
      and I think I have 2 inch or 1 1/2 inch of carpet padding. How much padding you want just depends on the amount of comfort you want and if you will be doing take downs/throws on it. But carpet padding is a cheap way to get more padding.
      Thanks

    • @Fairshanks
      @Fairshanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think pretty much like this one.
      www.amazon.com/Houseables-Dual-Action-Microfiber-Replacement-Washable/dp/B01FYG4G4U/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1499393687&sr=8-6&keywords=machine+washable+mop

    • @Fairshanks
      @Fairshanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you swiffer dust them first though, one of those disposable ones. Probably you could reuse it a few times, but its good to get any hair or dust off that the mop might just run over. but still need the mop too with chemical cleaning agent

    How are your mats holding up? Any updates or learnings you would like to pass on about their construction?

    • @Fairshanks
      @Fairshanks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I had to move for work and where I am at right now I don't have space to roll them out, so they are in storage. I did notice the duck tape falling off of the wood frames and also the carpet padding coming off of the floor boards. I would recommend finding an alternative to duck tape like drilling in some kind of soft rubber bumper padding and also maybe stapling in the carpet padding with some kind of industrial staple or maybe even screwing them in with a wide surface washer and screw.
