Product Description:
The beautiful and strong Eowyn was trained as a Shield-maiden, and was considered to have surpassed many Rohirrim men in terms of craft and skill. She carried a full-sized sword, which measured nearly three feet in length, from tip to hilt. The bronze guard and pommel were styled beautifully in honor of the mearas, to improve the grip of Eowyn's small hand upon the sword. The handgrip was crafted with a raised middle section of three bronze rings. A wide fuller groove runs down 3/4 of the blade to reduce the weight, yet still retain critical blade strength. This type of fuller was common among royal swords of the Rohirrim. Against her uncle's wishes, a disguised Eowyn rode with the Rohirrim to the Pelennor Fields along with the hobbit, Merry, in defense of their fallen king. Eowyn achieved true heroism as she succeeded in the slaying of the Witch King and his fell steed; however, she also suffered a heinous injury during the crusade. After being healed by King Elessar, Eowyn finally abandoned her passion for battlefield grandeur and found true love in the arms of Faramir. The officially licensed reproduction sword is constructed with a 30 1/8" tempered 420 J2 stainless steel blade. The handle features a solid metal guard and pommel with an antiqued, brass-plated finish. The hilt is cast with the symbols of the famed horses of Rohan and the grip is wrapped in genuine leather. Included are a parchment certificate of authenticity and a premium 11" x 10 5/8" x 3/4" wood display plaque. The fantasy replica sword is 36 1/2" in overall length.

I have to imagine if this blade had survived, it would've been considered of legendary status near Narsil.

Not likely as Narsil was forged in the First Age by the greatest blade smith in history about 6,500 to 7,000 years before LOTR and as such had a quality and heritage that far surpassed that of Eowyn's sword although the deed she did with her own sword was great itself.

Yeah but did THAT(her) blade do that? Merry's sword was the one specifically crafted to kill undead, and technically be is not of mankind. He broke the spell, she dealt the blow, but that's just a well balanced sword

I love how she was secretly also the greatest rohirrim warrior to ever live being an absolute menace on the battlefield while carrying merry and hiding her identity and facing the horror of the witch king.

Her sword and Merry's knife should be side by side since taking down the Witch King was a team effort.

The Rohirrim have the most beautiful swords imo. Herugrim is my personal favourite.
When I was a kid I wanted to collect them all. I started with Narsil. I took it out of the box. And accidentally stabed the ceiling immediately, haha. It's huge!
Even Viggo couldn't draw it from the scabbard, which makes a lot of sense.
I LOVE the Rohan designs. The weapons, armor and the village are gorgeous. I wish they'd recreate Rohan some place that wouldn't interfere with nature, just to get an emersive feel. Similar to that Harry Potter world, which I've never been to, but in theory sounds rad.

AWESOME!!! I love this one!!! I got it a few months ago. one of my favorites. IT feels like something you would really want to use in combat not just a wall hanger!

If you want a fun fact, Eowyn and Eomer's swords were supposed to be twin swords with Eomer's having green accents. Eomer was also supposed to wear green armor. However, PJ didn't like Karl Urban in green so they switched Eomer's armor and sword with Theodred! Theodred's sword was supposed to be really there for the funeral scene and so it was a tad shorter. But now that sword is Guthwine and Theodred is in green.

I bought Eomer's and Eowyn's swords closer to the time when the movies came out, and my Eomer's sword was far larger than the Eowyn one. I'm thinking the version you got was shortened for display purposes.
Eomer was a spearman and a cavalry officer so his sword would be shorter, Eowyn was also from a horse riding culture but unlikely to be able to throw a spear like her bro so a slightly longer weapon would make up for her shorter arm

Fun fact! Tolkien said he imagined the Rohirrim as Anglo-Saxons if they had leverage heavy calvary before William the Conqueror. As such, PJ, Weta, and Peter Lyon (swordsmith) were indeed inspired by Norse / Anglo-Saxon 10th century swords for the Rohan designs.

Random one - what do you guys think would have happened if Gandalf had ridden out of Minis Tirith rather than saving Faramir? Just re-reading the books and got to the moment where Gandalf says something along the lines of "I will help Faramir, though I fear many others will die as a result". Does he mean Theoden? Might be interesting to break down wider impact of this decision
First of all, THANK YOU! Your videos are WOW! - I don't know if you have made this before, but I am interested in a video about how Tolkien expressed his views on the time he lived in. For instance, as he wrote about a wizard losing his wisdom, destroying the forest, and building machines. It seems Tolkien was worried about industrialisation of our own world. Tolkien also wrote about what true evil is, and what true love is. I have learned so much about how to be a better person from Tolkiens characters and his tales about friendship and fellowship. For instance, how small gestures of kindness have far reaching effects, and how money, power, beauty and intelligence -are not the only great traits to have. Less intelligent people, can still have more wisdom and insight, less beautiful people can still have an enchanting charisma, and people who do not want to become powerful, are in fact the strongest and best leaders of us all.
I am very upset with how ROP misinterpreted Tolkiens values, and meaningful lessons he tried to pass on. ROP made Galadriel a villain and everything Tolkien was against. I want to see a video on Tolkiens opinions on the world he live in and how he would like it to change for the better. What a wonderful human being he was.
Nice review. The fuller has nothing to do with who's wielding the sword and everything to do with it's dynamic properties. It results in redistribution of the swords' mass improving the efficiency of the geometry of the blade with respect to it's intended purpose.
You should start playing the middle earth strategy battle game! Now, with a new starter set it's the perfect time to start, and I think you'll like it.
If you don't like the Osgiliath setting (and since you love Rohan) the old starter set was based on the Pelennor fields! The game is easy to learn but difficult to master, so anyone can get started quickly.
Have you done a Rings of Power + One Ring travels video? Along with the lesser rings. I would love to see the map of Middle Earth with a couple dozen rings zooming everywhere lol

Visually they resemble Anglo-Saxons but in terms of warfare they resemble the nomadic tribes from the steppe that settled in eastern Europe (like the Cumans or the Tartars)

Oh wow...I'll have to see if I can find out. It's a grey color with a hint of blue.

Hey friend! Christian Kon from Castle Kon here. We sell this sword and many others. I actually just got back from Weta and held one of the originals. The UC version is VERY close. Yes, the blade is about 1/4" too wide and particularly, the fuller near the guard is too wide. However, the sword proportions itself are VERY close.
Surprisingly, Guthwine, Eomer's sword is actually shorter than Eowyn's!
