    The best part is, the second chinese skatter was well aware of this. When everyone else try to reach out the finish line she continued to skate. By the time others realized and raced back again, she finished second.

  • @EnriqueMaxx
    @EnriqueMaxx หลายเดือนก่อน +16066

    For people asking how this could've happened... it's practical to start off slow, then break away closer to the end of the race. They have to do 14 laps. Typically if you start off too strong then you get smoked by the end. This only worked out because she was able to re-join the pack and went back to skating slowly. If any one of the other skaters challenged her fast start, both the Chinese skater and whomever joined her would've had to kept up and an aggressive pace the whole race to win.
    Also 14 laps is a lot so it's understandable that they lost count. They aren't focusing on the number of laps left; they're waiting for the announcer to say final lap. Which unfortunately for them...he was only saying to one person 😂.
    This was very clever but will probably never happened again. It was a high risk, high reward situation.

    • @warpedwhimsical
      @warpedwhimsical หลายเดือนก่อน +123

      Well also you never want to be in first until right at the end of the race, cause the person in first fights full air resistance while all the other skaters catch the slipstream of the person in front of them. She turned this concept on its head by skating so far ahead she could skate in last place’s slipstream.

    • @Spiderantula
      @Spiderantula หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      Not entirely true, they are well aware of the last few laps to be able to increase speed without tiring too much.

      @@Spiderantula they knew the last lap was approaching, sure. but they didn't know when they were actually at that point. That's how Li Jinzi took 2nd place. • @kolinmartz
      @kolinmartz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +100

      Yep. And since she’s in the back it’s not until after they’ve crossed the line that the lap count changes. And when she crosses the line for her last lap, the others will increase their speed and tire themselves out forgetting it’s two more laps for them actually. She just has to kinda keep pace. The others would then slow down when she finishes and while they’re distracted her teammate could clutch that second place.

    To many who think she is wasting energy, she only skate faster than everyone else so that she can appear to be last behind the last skater but actually was first. This do not take up much laps and also consider the fact that all the other skaters are just going slow, she can easily reach the last skater in probably two laps and for the subsequent laps, she can just conserve her energy by pacing but actually was already one laps ahead.
    However, one thing I find it very admirable is about her thought process. To be so sure that her contender will forget the laps requires lots of experience and observation. And this also comes down to how each individual trains. Her way of training other than just endurance, the physical training. She also try to catch the different weakness or mistakes an ice skater is capable to have or make which is why she is a genius

      Not really.. this race I think is about 13 laps, so what I believe to be correct is they will start of reasonably slow, with the lead person setting the pace, being at the front of the group is harder than being behind someone due to aerodynamics.. but basically it’s an endurance race until the last lap, that’s when they race, go as fast as they can to try and be first, it’s about conserving your energy and then having enough left at the end to push for the win. Sometimes they will pick up speed prior to the last lap, all depends on the racers, but what that woman did was use a lot of energy to speed round the ring, until she was at the back of the pack, while still being in first place, then did the endurance part, while benefiting from not being at the front, as people behind another person have it easier from a slipstream (aerodynamics stuff - I don’t know much but look it up, is quite interesting)
      What the others should have done imo if they wanted first place - was to make a break for it to try and catch up to the leader at some point, but by them all waiting until ruffly the last lap, it wasn’t actually their last lap but the leaders, so they left it to late, maybe they were so focused on what normally happens they forgot what she did early on, or maybe they didn’t wanna risk losing more so aimed for second place, idk
      Doubt she did it easily though, as it still requires a lot of energy, and you have to be very physically fit to race, she just played at her strengths.. or maybe at the opponents weaknesses lol
      Either way it helped her teammate get second place as they remembered the bell wasn’t for them and that she had one more lap to go afterwards, and her racing as fast as she could then - that secured her second place
      (Sorry I wrote a lot, I can’t help it, it’s hard for me to say what I wanna say so I tend to waffle on quite a bit, but hope you find my comment useful to your question)
