    … thank you for not only reviewing and stating points to improve, but to include drills and streches to correct mistakes, to help the person and all us others to „grow“ in the martial art that we love… i am deeply grateful for your vidéos…

    Sensei Yusuke,
    Thank you so much for reviewing my kata. I will surely improve the things you have pointed out in this video. Hopefully, I will be able to better myself as time goes by. Again, thank you so much.

    I've been learning shotokan karate since May, im in my mid 40s , Just yellow belt, 1 class a week. It the best thing I've ever done , I'm so obsessed, it's all I think of I've never been active, 2 years smoke-free after 25 years. Your videos are super helpful, im up to heian sandan. Love the ankle stretch.

      Awesome. I am the person in the video and I started Karate last year. I am 30 years old. Currently a green belt and I am really trying my best to be better as time goes by. Age doesn't dictate us. If I can, you can. I am sure you will get to the lifetime journey of practicing karate. I look forward also to your improvement. Let's all improve together. Ossu!

    The way you explained moving from the hips by dragging the back leg instead of pushing off it, was epiphany for me. Thank you!
    Not just in stopping the waste of power from arching momentum, the push coming from the new back leg, peaking at the last moment of tension when your fist is done twisting and you are impacting the hit makes so much sense.

    Great video with points I can use! One thing we would love as well are you exemplifying the Heian forms for us. In our American Karate styles we don’t always get as much training in the traditional Shotokan forms as we might like.

    The three things I'd mention would be, locking that back leg in their zenkutsudachi to give that pushing strength and root into the ground, separate the head from the stance from the torso, hammer fist like you would actually use a hammer in a forge.

    • @spencerorde8090
      @spencerorde8090 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the toe turning to the side before stepping forward is an introduction technique to what you were explaining. They teach it that way so that the hips are more open for the back leg to come through for a front kick or step. Take what you will from that.

    I enjoy this series quite a lot, thanks for creating this content and thanks to all the courageous karateka who share their kata with us! I was particularly interested in "problem" #3, because I believe in the Kyokushin style, the Zenkutsu-dachi or "forward leaning" stance expressly states that the rear foot should be pointing at a 45 degree angle. So when sliding forward from Zenkutsu-dachi to Zenkutsu-dachi stances, we are taught in Seido and Kenshikai styles (direct descendants from Kyokushin) to first turn the forward heel inward before moving our bodies forward leaving our now rear foot in the proper 45 degree angle in the next stance. It looked to me that this karateka was deliberately moving his heels in first (or as you said, "toes out")? The "correction" I might have suggested is that he should be rotating his heel in on the ball of his foot, instead of lifting the ball of his foot and turning his toes outward. BUT, maybe this is improper in the Shotokan version of the Zenkutsu-dachi?

      My personal understanding of how the human body moves is "when the toes are faced outwards, your pelvis leans forward, as a result, your upper body becomes unstable. To learn the correct pelvis position, Shotokan teaches you to keep your toes forward and turn them in the last second.

    2:23 "very powerful for somebody who probabbly started few months ago"... erm, sorry but: what? 5 Kyu after only a few months??? Not here in Europe! My first teacher, who passed away in 2012, was rather strict. I started few months before I turned 13. And I was given blue belt when I was 20! And I was one of the fast advancing guys! There were students who reached blue belt after 11 years! And I reached Sho Dan in 2011 at the age of 26 after 13 years of practise. Ok, the fact that the school changed styles and organisation twice between 1999 and 2005 slowed things down drastically. But still... my teacher would not give students 5 Kyu before they reached the technical level of 4 Kyu.
    About the "problem" with the guys toes: from my point of view it is not a problem at all. It is the way how most okinawan styles do it. This way you can keep your heel down to the floor.

    • @senpuuryu
      @senpuuryu ปีที่แล้ว

      I just noticed your comment. The Blue Belt is a Competition Belt, not really my belt. You should know that in Sport Karate, Blue and Red are the only belts. I am not a 5th Kyu either, I am just a green belt (6th Kyu) in our club. So, in a nutshell, I am still a beginner. It really depends on the school. Our school's Shihan is as strict as anybody else, given he is an internationally recognized person and had been into many competitions already locally, abroad and just, worldwide. But the thing is, I passed my 6th Kyu because I was able to perform the kihon well, just that my kata has a lot of sharpening as of the moment. Technically, I am still a beginner.
