Not anymore. They were moved out to standard houses. No one lives in the cave anymore. The caretaker only came when tourists visit the cave.

What I love so so much about this place. The birds singing, the free unending water, the pools of fish, and the old bonsai trees in their colourful pots. The stunning views from the windows is incredible. What a lovely place to live.

Yes very beautiful and serene place to live, one those places where time seems like it stops or at least slows down. Though it is actually the people who slow down their pace automatically in a place like this.
This is why I love studying the landscape of China and how it has influenced where people chose to live many generations ago. Natural caves like this are all over the place in these karst-filled regions, and they have provided ample shelter and storage to villagers and travelers for thousands of years. Chongqing, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan are all incredibly beautiful for a reason, and the fact that they're highly biodiverse, fertile, and rich in natural resources makes them truly unique.

I would just hate to give up rights and freedoms to live there. My only issue is the Chinese government, not the media or Chinese people. Asian government are very different from each other. Xi Jinping runs China differently from Japan suppressing people's freedoms much more. North and South Korea are quite different with one suppressing and violating freedoms and rights much more than the other.
Those are important issues in individuals choice of where to visit or live.

I never get tired of your awesome videos. You seem to research and understand your locations so well and explain the stories and history perfectly to the general public, and the translations work out great. And you both do a great job interviewing people when the chance comes up, even with people who might not be used to being in front of a camera. This place is amazing. I can only imagine how free and grounded it must feel when some of the walls of your home are literally made of mountain LOL.

Not exactly. There are many examples throughout the world of houses that are caves or built into caves. In Spain there are quitar a few examples in Andalucía, esp Granada. O en Cazorla. So no, not only the Chinese.
