6:00 a notable 4 eyed deity: Satori. Something else is that the number 4 四 is a homophone for 死ぬ(しぬ), shinu which means death. The number is unlucky to the point where the alternative 4 “yon” is used instead. You often can’t buy things in sets of 4 in Japan for the same reason. Very superstitious. What is interesting is when you add one more, the 5 yen (五円) piece is considered lucky on the other hand because it is a homophone with another word 御縁 (go-en) which means causal relationship or a LINK. There were five champion’s tunics, but when only 4 were in battle it resulted in death. They needed the missing Link to save Hyrule. Alright back to sleep. Some weird stuff pops out of my head when I sleep listening to your videos Mox!

No no no, the theory that the secret stones were extracted from the bargainers eyes is a really good theory, it also explains why the eyes suddenly appear on the surface of hyrule when their owner is in the underground, they fell from the sky where they had been kept, that makes a lot of sense. I already forgot what you were saying because the video was so full of things to remember but this last point you made reallt made sense, please make a shorter video on it!!

48:39 these roots are what supplies Ganondorf, notice you find him on a stump of it. When Link loses a heart, this makes Ganondorf that much stronger. All the underground roots point toward the castle. In botw, the calamity also had tentacle-like roots in the sanctum.

I'm really ecstatic about this whole theory video, not only because it's the crack-enduced-melatoin I need to be able to sleep, but because of how thorough is.
The Japanese lore context made me ecstatic because it brough me back to why I started my interests into The Legend of Zelda Series.
Ōkami, the game I was told is almost like TLoZ, has lore that's based off this theory. As Amaterasu's name was mentioned as long as Izanagi and Izanami, who are called Nagi and Nami, I was formally interested and the mentions of Susano, the descendant of Nagi in ōkami, and the sword that sealed the dreaded 8-headed serpent, Orochi, Tsukiyomi, I think it's spelled, had me over the moon.
Two of my favorite games possibly having the same playstyle, the same lore, and the same layout, it was all a lot for me as I listened to this video while I was awake and finishing up a project.
This was all so amazing to watch, keep up the good work, and never stop failing to make me happy that I have theories to listen to while I'm sleeping, studying, or just interested. ❤️❤️

    1. You pointed out 2 different kinds of Zonai, one who represents peace and engineering and the other represents war and primitivism. Such a reference was present in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption at the planet Bryyo. A golden age occurred when the “Lords of Science” came together and constructed technological masterpieces that shared knowledge to races beyond the planet. However, this golden age would not last, for the “Primals” mourned their primitive traditions and developed a bitter resentment toward the masters of technology. This led to the all-out war that rendered Bryyo uninhabitable. All that remains are the ruins and the Primals who attack Samus on site while venturing deeper into the planet’s ruins.
    2. Metroid Prime 3 features a setting called Skytown, Elysia. A deserted Chozo colony that was left behind. The colony is now inhabited by robots that not only share the knowledge of the planet’s recorded history, but continue to resume their work. Pointless now their masters are gone, but admirable to continue to function for the sole purpose they were built for. Sound familiar?
    3. With references of religious history, regardless of any name you call God, divine intervention is no exception for Shinto followers and Buddhists despite the prejudice between each other. Two mighty typhoons occurred on the Mongol invasions of Japan. Mighty warships from Mongolia of the Yuan Dynasty sent by Kublai Khan to invade Japan, only to be thwarted by nature itself. 1274 and 1281 A.D., the Mongols attempted to invade mainland Japan and managed to pillage Tsushima, Iki, and Hakata-ku. Both invasion attempts failed by a divine influence. The Japanese came to know it as “kamikaze” or “divine wind.” It was believed that if a naval invasion is built in the size the likes of which the world has never seen, a divine intervention is plausible. However, when the Second World War raged on, the belief was dismissed when on June 6, 1944, the Allied armada crossed the English Channel to Normandy. The invasion force was larger than the Mongol invasions, and even bigger than Normandy was in Okinawa, and much bigger, the invasion force of mainland Japan later in 1945 just before the war’s end.
In Tears of the Kingdom, the Imprisoning War broke out. The tribes banded together, even the Gerudo who claimed responsibility for the birth of the Demon King and vowed to make amends to right their wrongs. The Kingdom of Hyrule believed that no matter whatever form Ganon assumes, he would be defeated and sealed away. Only… the Great Calamity occurred and wiped out the kingdom. Even when sealed, the damage was already done. Even when the Calamity was defeated by Link and Zelda, Ganondorf returned as a mummified corpse and unleashed chaos upon the land.
Tears of the Kingdom could also imply Japan’s history of religion, prejudice, prophecies, and misinterpretations as the times, both ancient and modern, have come and gone. Whether the past is not what it seems or the future is not what some would’ve envisioned it. Divine influences can shape history, not just man.

    (ToTk spoilers)
i'm living for these theories, i've been obsessed with the bargainers statues since i stumbled across them. I'm still learning about the older games, but my personal working theory is they're possibly a more "neutral" or at least "less evil" deity that is a split from Hylia. LoZ loves doing things in threes (makes sense - triforce, three goddesses, three dragons, etc), and if Hylia is "good" and the horned statue is "evil", then the Bargainers could be a bit of both, which ends up kinda balancing it out into an almost "true neutral" entity.
The double faces seen on them could be simply reflecting this. It hurts Link when the Horned Statue takes/gives him stamina or hearts, and it seems almost gleeful to have played a trick on him and has absolutely no remorse for anything it's done; there's absolutely no question in my mind that its supposed to be genuinely evil. Hylia glows and verbally blesses Link while giving him whichever upgrade he asks for, and the Bargainer just simply offers it as a reward for doing what was asked. The Bargainers statement of Poes not being good or evil also makes me wonder if its supposed to almost represent a god of death - neither good nor evil, just a part of life that happens that causes the creation of a death god to carry the souls into the afterlife. But I'm pretty sure it'd be called something different in Japanese if it was supposed to be a death god, which is just one of many holes in my theory lol
One of the things that *really* puzzles me about them is that they seem to be one of the "new" things that pops up after the Upheaval - I don't remember even seeing a hint of the Bargainer bit above ground in BoTW. If the Bargainer *is* a result of Zelda's change, what about the Draconification changed her essence as a deity to suddenly require a new deity to show up? Specifically a deity who's *whole job* seems to be escorting souls into the afterlife? Was part of Hylia's job to guide souls to the afterlife? Was that part of herself that Zelda had to give up? And if any of this is plausible, then who was the wizard who plucked out its eyes? Were they Zonai or Hylian or the mysterious new race alluded to in the Depths? What if the wizard *was* a part of the mysterious race and what he did contributed to all of them being wiped out? Did the Bargainer Statue under the Mother Goddess statue cause her to fall? Did the Statues somehow coordinate to make the Mother Goddess statue fall so they could be heard again?
Also had NEVER thought of the canyon being in the shape of a dragon and now I can't unsee it. These games are incredible

def God of Death. The JP name is Majin Zao (Demon Statue)
      Hylia's plan was to reincarnate~
      彼を完全に滅するため女神ハイリアは 2つの策を講じました.
So the Goddess Hylia prepared two plans to fully eradicate them.
      1つは選ばれし者を導く為にあなたが背負った剣に宿る精霊ファイを創造すること.
One was to create the spirit Fi, which resides in the blade you’re carrying, to guide her chosen one.
      そしてもう1つは… ハイリア自身が神の体を捨て去り 自らの魂を人間に転生させること.
And the other… Hylia herself would abandon her divine body, and her soul would be reincarnated as a human.
      そう… 終焉の者を消滅させる為 ハイリアは古代神の遺産を使おうと決意したのです.
Yes… Hylia decided to use the inheritance of the ancient gods to annihilate Demise.
      神が創りもの でありながら 神の一族が使うこと叶わぬ 万能の力 トライフース…
Despite being a creation of the gods, it was impossible for the almighty power of the Triforce to be used by the god’s clan.

She can't reincarnate if there's death

    • @AnaatthiGozo
      @AnaatthiGozo ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is some Elden Ring stuff, but what if the the concept of death was carried within the mortal Hylia and what was allowing her to resurrect after death over and over again. But now that Hylia is an immortal dragon there is no longer room for death within that being and thus it had to find a new host, a new deity, to dwell inside.

  • @lexistephenson5044
    @lexistephenson5044 ปีที่แล้ว +5

not sure if its entirely relevant but the gloom could be related to the medieval concept of melancholia or "dark, black bile", basically what they thought depression used to be but rather characterised it as some sort of black liquid which gave the victim unexplainable fear and weighed heavily on their souls. in that sense the gloom could be a possible physical manifestation of peoples fear? which would also make sense with its connection to ganondorf and demise

Not just the fates of the leviathans, but further beyond and in a much deeper rabbit hole... I'll fill you in on some more when you upload something that brings up the subject matter.

[Edit]- I feel like the mother goddess statue is a replica, it is too small, doesn't have the offering chamber for the knight cerimony, and it doesn't have the room inside of it
Btw, I'm probably going to edit this alot
[Edit2]- The paint on the barbarian set is similar to the paint on silver and gold enemies
[Edit3]- Maybe the shaking from the upheaval could of toppled the goddess statue, btw the only large goddess statue that doesn't say about the mother goddess statue (still find that an odd name) is the one in the temple(s) of time
The odd looking status in the depths could be zonai (we only see two alive and there both directly related) or it could be the mogma

Something that's been nagging me alot, were the dragons hominoid goddesses before being dragons? Like did the goddesses eat tears too or is dragon form something they can just do? before the goddesses played an active part in the world and now they just passively view it from above as far as I can tell, all but Zelda, who was keeping the sky and depths locked until the right time. So why did they become dragons?

Let's have some fun. Consider the possibility that the statues in the depths aren't originally the bargainer. The two faced one looks like a prehistoric Boko when looked from the other side.
What if there was a civilization living in the depths, and those statues are their Kamisama. A civilization of blins. This could be an origin story for Dorf's army.
What if Zelda's plan to put the islands in the sky required the Zonai to delve deep in the depths to mine the Zonaite.
War for resources, enslavement, death. With death the number of poes multiplied, and after them came the bargainer. A deity that has shown the ability to take over other deities' statues.
And lastly, what are the motives of the bargainer? A being that considers good and evil irrelevant has a good chance of having nefarious motives, in our worldly reference frame. Is it helping the poes, or does it need them for something else?
Oh, and that works nice with the fact bokoblins are mining the Zonaite, but we don't see them using it for anything.

As a jewish myself, I personally find it very flattering and loving a lot when japanese culture takes from my traditions. And I would love to keep pushing people into enjoying it and using it as inspiration in the future. Cultural appropriation is (mainly for me) degrading tradition and using it for personal use as a way to simplify or reinterpret the tradition to fit a narrative of said tradition.
Here, and in many other japanese creations I've seen, it's rarely used as a way to evilize jews or the traditions. Most of them are things they found interesting and fit the narrative of their stories, not to fit their own vision of the narrative in jewish story or history.
And in some cases, it's mainly out of idiocy because they found it cool and just use it without adding depth to it (it was in a few mangas) and in rare cases, there is actual ill intention behind the use (same, in some mangas, I've seen it)
In the case of Nintendo, it's mainly to fit their narrative of the game and not to evilize or transform the representation of jewish people and traditions. So I'd rather let them do it and be happy when I discover they actually added those to the game than ask for them to erase it.
This is also part of representation and sharing love of similar topics. people, do try to avoid taking things personally as an attack or with ill intention when it can be ignorance or even more simple than that. Not everyone has control over everything they do and they say. Sometimes, it's just mistakes.

Nintendo wasn't aware of the Muslim chanting. When they learned about it they took it out. Nintendo has "cultural appropriation" in nearly every game in the series. Taking influence from real life isn't appropriation and is used in tons of games

I wish we as a Zelda community could stop spreading the false "fact" that Zelda is the "reincarnation of Hylia". That only applies to Skyward Sword Zelda; every other Zelda only has the *blood* of the goddess.

Tell me you did not really try and apply “cultural appropriation” to a fictional video game. The concept of cultural appropriation is so incredibly stupid; it’s absurd that it’s even taken seriously in today’s society. It is a side effect of teaching everyone that they’re a victim
