    Graphics cards have been getting larger and larger over the years... which means they've tended to sag more and more. It's a struggle many of us face. A sagging card can ruin the aesthetic of a rig - even potentially damage components in the long-run. This solution from Lian Li is the best I've found. It's effective and stealthy. Let me show you!

    In the 1990s. The VESA Local Bus standard was implemented in PC motherboards of the time. It was a 16 bit ISA slot with an addition after the slot ended that was mechanically identical to the superseding PCI slot that came a few years later. Video cards for the standard were just as long as today's video cards but did not have any fancy heatsinks or crazy power requirements, but the standard was railed against for cards being too long, sagging and being difficult to install and uninstall with reports of people breaking their cards when installing.
    If only they could see the monstrosities of today. PCI Express was released in 2004. It was not designed for this future.
    PCI GPUs that came after VLB died were smaller and faster. We need to start shrinking GPUs.

      They are right, I just bought the newer gb 002 version and the card appear to be straight but over the last 2 days I've heard random creaking sounds from my pc although they are not frequent. I suppose with a longer and bigger card like mine, the fact that the small support arm is only at the side next to the motherboard is very slowly bending the card or damaging the pcie slot area. Support needs to be at the side of the card that's not facing the motherboard... I gotta look for some better gpu support thing again

    Good video, interesting product ... but ... for my money, I prefer the extra stability given by supporting the card by the opposite (outer) corner, and the bracket-type solution also hides neatly the bottom part of the mobo along with any other add-in cards (IO,USB,WiFi, etc).
    Good to have the option, though! Keep up the good work.

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer seeing the clean looks of motherboards underneath, along with capture cards, etc. I also wouldn't argue that brackets are "more stable." They're fastened to the PCIe slots - the same place the graphics card in question already is. This is why, as discussed in the video, some brackets need to be arranged slightly above horizontal to prop up beefier cards. IMO, this defeats the purpose of them entirely. For smaller/lighter cards, though, this shouldn't be an issue.

    • @sandornyemcsok4168
      @sandornyemcsok4168 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are right. Mechanically (=based on the law of physics) the best point to support is the opposite (the free) corner. That's why I bought a stand. I have a non-transparent side panel, so I do not care about aesthetics.

    I really like this solution. I’ve used it a number of times and there are other companies who have copied it. However, it does not work on all motherboards as one of the screws it used may be obscured by a heat sink cover. Also, depending on the GPU, you have to make sure the little support does not impinge on one of the fans. I rand into that with a couple of GPUs and had to stop using the bracket. You can get creative with it and move it to the far side of the motherboard over the SATA ports, but that may obscure a header or two depending on the layout of the motherboard. It’s also easier to install the foot with the case laying down.

      Lian Li has a second version with a piece that slides. It's the GB-002 and I just ordered it earlier today. I was having the exact problem you described where the support arm on this GB-001 interfered with the fans on my GPU. I'm hoping since I can slide the arm over on the GB-002 that it won't interfere then.

    I watched this when first published and held off on getting one for a long time, just because I had other things that were more important but I finally ordered it and installed yesterday after arrival. Supports my MSI 4070Ti Suprim X just as well as the included stick stand, on an ASUS ROG Z790 Maximus Hero Dark in the same position you installed it and works just like the stick stand, maybe better since this one is actually mounted to the chassis. By all rights, the only way to really avoid any issues are to keep your rig laying down or vertical mount your card.

  • @AeiKei
    @AeiKei ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It's a good idea, but as mentioned there might be some incompatibility issues depending on the motherboard. Personally I think the solution should come either from the board manufacturers (some already do provide this, I remember using an Asrock Z690 almost 2 years back that came with an anti-sag bracket) or the case manufacturers (used a pretty cheap Chieftec case recently in a build that had an anti-sag rail mounted system). That said, the dimensions of modern cards is overwhelming. Heck, my XFX RX6700 XT is 34 cm long...in a smaller case it wouldn't fit with a front-mounted AIO

  • @garyhome7101
    @garyhome7101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    JayzTwoCents has a different fix that realizes the fact that some cards have a weak mounting point at the back pci slot on the case, and simply providing a "bumper" to support that end of the card ends up supporting the card closer to level without buying anything. That is the current "fix" I'm using, but I do like the Lian Li bracket you're demonstrating.

    I got one of these brackets included when buying the Lian Li O11D Evo and i really like it a lot. Only thing is, my gpu wouldn click properly into the PCIe slot. I made a little bend on it where the PCB were colliding and it now works perfectly. I think the heatsinks on my mobo are a tiny bit too large but was an easy fix as the bracket bends easy enough. I'm doing a custom loop atm and with a 4 lbs/1850g waterblock on the GPU, this anti-sag bracket comes in VERY handy. I like this solution a lot better than those big "standing" brackets or the one you used as an example in the video. The Lian Li one works well and is super discreet.

    I own 40s PNY xlr8 graphic card, and they give those antisag supports in box, rather than those bracket ones and I'm grateful they do so, its way better in terms of compatibility but still very effective and very easy to install, and clean looking ( i have inverted atx, motherboard so its was an epic safe from this little metal for me).

    Thanks for this. I used the supplied MSI bracket initially which seemed fine but there was still like a degree of sag. I have the lancool 216 case so their mobo anti sag device was included. Today I've installed it and now my card is dead straight and my card looks less bulky. Win win. I'm on an Asus ROG strix B650-A mobo with an MSI 6800 Z Trio.

    Great video, it inspired me to replace the L-shaped (and a bit ugly) bracket I had. But I found out around here there was only a GB-002 version on sale. I'm not sure which one's better. The 001 will allow more precise height adjustment, the 002 is more flexible in terms of horizontal position but depends on fixed vertical positions and requires the use of thin pads to get to the ideal height to support the GPU. I made a short video installing it, I'm not sure it's OK to post links on other peoples video's comments, but anyone interested will find it for sure.

    i have this lian li bracket and its been a god send. what i did was lay the pc on its back, line up the foot, get it into place and its solid. Only downside is that my motherboard and where i can secure it is right over the heatsink for my b550 so it doesnt get full clearance.

    You can get the Lian Li GB-002 bracket for about $12.00. It doesn't seem to actually improve on the 001. I have the Lian Li GB-002, but my EVGA 3070 TI FTW won't fully lock the PCI-E clip with the bracket in place, but the graphics card will fully seat and can be operational. I removed the bracket during troubleshooting. It was not the cause of issues. I just use an adjustable stand now, so that I can lock my card in the slot.

    I like it. however, they should have implemented a flange at the bottom of the standoff, or at least included a small washer to provide better surface area 'coverage' & pressure when fastening to the motherboard...

    I've never looked into buying a anti sag bracket but when I upgrade my GPU I will look into getting this one. I'm not a fan of the anti sag brackets that sit on top of the PSU shroud and are visible. This bracket looks so clean, I'm going to add this video to my watch later list. I was unaware that sag can damage your GPU.

    My AsRock Z790 Steel Legend came with essentially the same bracket (well, different design, but same concept). It was unnecessary until I got the RX7800XT. It was simple enough to install (once confirming the thread size for standoffs). Seems to be a perfect solution, if you give points for 'hiddenness'.
    For $25...? Yeah, go to Home Depot/Lowe's/etc. and buy your own tiny brackets.

    I use this bracket but as GB-002 in my ♥️Lian Li♥️ O11 Dynamic with a Sapphire RX6950XT. For the Lian Li Lancool 216 in which I installed my second system, this bracket (GB-001) was even included free of charge in the supplied accessories😌
    it also comes in the respective color in which you purchase the case. I think it's really great in this price range 🙂👍🏻The case here in the RGB version only costs around 109 € (Germany) I'm not 100% sure 🤔 but I think it's also included with other new Lian Li cases 🙂 apart from the Lancool 216
