I fell in love with Illinois (of course I'm biased in favor of the album, Illinois is where I was born and I have a lot of family there). After his death in 2011, I treasured your music like a keepsake. And then when my grandma died in 2016, Carrie & Lowell became a bitter sweet refuge for me around her death. I haven't watched The Politician, but I might start because if the show runners have good enough taste to use this song as the opening, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the show itself is good too. I don’t even know what “The Politician” is but I sure remember this song back in 2005 Almost TWENTY years ago… and how insanely vivid my old life becomes. I was 15-16 and truly having the best years of my life in High School finding who I was… and who I wasn’t. I was with my friends every weekend being young adults and just being alive. I know this sounds weird but I’m a little stoned and heard this song on a reel on IG and it did something to me; it transported me back to that time in my life. We were so lucky to grow up in the 90s and 2000s. Truly… and I don’t even know why this song invoked so much emotion but it did and I’m not mad about it. I am somewhat mad, however, at the fact that I won’t be able to go back to that time in my History to relieve myself of even SOME of Life’s obligations and hardships nowadays. 😭🙌🏼
