Yes, welfare beneficiaries are crippling NZ's economy and consuming billions of our taxpayer funds, but Immigration NZ's point of view is that if this man's kidney fails, then he'll become another beneficiary who is also consuming millions in healthcare. The amount of tax a minimum wage farm worker pays is significantly less than what he'd cost in healthcare and welfare payments, plus he's old so he'll be retiring soon, unlike a 30-year-old worker.

But "hardworking" is what all people that aren't disabled or unemployed are.
There has always been a "you have to excell and show that you are needed" bit in the law.
If there are others than can do the job then its more about what they bring to the community.

What is the difference between a NZer that’s been on a benefit for years that hasn’t worked needing the same treatment and this guy who has worked hard and paid taxes? If anyone deserves to be treated it’s this guy, but how do they even know he is going to need treatment? His health may be fine for many more years to come. Humans can get leptospirosis through direct contact with urine from infected animals or through water, soil or food contaminated with their urine. It's most common in warm climates.
High fever, headache, bleeding, muscle pain, chills, red eyes and vomiting are some symptoms.
Without treatment, leptospirosis can lead to kidney and liver damage and even death. Antibiotics clear the infection.
