The Jamstik Studio Midi Guitar and the Jammy Midi Guitar are two of the most commonly seen midi guitars today. The Jamstik studio is a 3/4 size guitar that boasts all of the features of a traditional electric guitar, as well as full Midi capability. The Jammy presents a take-anywhere solution for guitar players looking for a device that can do a bit of everything while also breaking down and fitting in a backpack. Both of these midi guitars offer something a bit different and in today's video we'll take a look at how they compare. Enjoy!

Why don’t these guys show the midi note capture? Where are the accuracies for tracking? Double notes, ghost notes, false triggers? Any midi guitar tracks fine through speakers, but alot of musicians might want to record midi and convert to a readable score
Is this possible for you to do a video? Thanks

I know all these videos are annoying. I would love to have a midi guitar for transcribing music in real time but none of these videos ever mention if that is possible with the guitar they are testing.

Not to mention Device apps are USELESS if the phone is not current enough for the service provider to update it's operating system to versions which the app providers allow its use on.
Side note: I'd LOVE to see how it works when using with VST guitars from Orange Tree Samples, Native Instruments, Acoustic Samples, and others... it'd REALLY expand its usability.

One minor correction: you said the Jamstik is a 3/4 guitar. It is not. It has a full 24 frets, as mentioned, and has a 25.75 inch scale, the same as a Strat. It is about the length of a 3/4 due to the headless design and compact body, but it is indeed a full sized guitar.

    Great video!
Recently bought Fishman Triple Play and it's... a thing.
Zero problems with latency but the tracking is so so. Faster licks, hammer ons etc. sometimes track and sometimes not.
I'm looking for a reliable guitar synth that could be used on gigs and composing. Especially composing suffers from ghost notes.
    Price doesn't matter.
I dream of doing small gigs playing acid techno stuff with just a midi controller guitar and a laptop.
Triple play doesn't feel like it's reliable enough to play drum loops at least on the first try.
Do you happen to know if triple play is better/worse than these two options?

Only if that's what you want and are willing to pay for. As-what I refer to as-a "sketchpad guitarist" (i.e., I only flush out ideas on them) I personally care more about tech features (controls, hand position tracking, etc) than having another guitar; features that make VST guitars feel most authentic and the editing process less tedious. Obviously a real guitarist would have a vastly different perspective & set of requirements.

I own a Jammy and love it. The strings are breakable btw lol but easy to replace. Theres a lot to love about the Jammy. I have it hooked up to Ableton and use the Roli studio with it as well to create some truly bizzare sounds. I think the best option would be to just buy both lol

If you had a midi guitar, midi bass, midi keyboard, midi microphone, midi wind instrument with a bunch of different midi foot controllers and a control surface connected to a computer with every reputable midi software pack, virtual instrument pack, and dynamics plug in pack with just a single Apollo desktop interface or something similar with high end dsp and preamp/dynamics plug ins and a small collection of decent vocal microphones you’d basically have the most versatile home studio setup imaginable. You’d have every instrument, every amp, every preamp, every compressor, eq, channel strip, every famous microphone. Everything you’d ever need and more. Get some acoustic treatment and a set of really nice speakers and headphones and bam. The ultimate home studio for someone with no space but indecisiveness.

Patric Breen - thanks for this. What about Jam Origin which some say (Paul White Sound on Sound, just HIS opinion, though an informed one) surpasses all MIDI guitars. He wrote: "I find it difficult to overstate what the designers of this software have achieved. Had I not tried it for myself, I would simply not have believed it possible! As a guitar player, I think MIDI Guitar 2 is the most significant piece of software that I have come across next to my DAW of choice."
Any thoughts? I'm guessing Jam Origins only weak spot is tuning. As strings wear out or days get cold, obviously you're going to have some sharps and flats.
Just curious what you thought. I'm in the market for a MIDI guitar - I have one that actually works okay but is awkward to play - but thinking Jam Origin might be superior.
Any feedback is appreciated - if any!
    Thanks.

Really neat. As for myself, the Jamstik would be my more preferable choice since the durability is a big factor for me. Plus, the potential for electronic components to be damaged would be less likely. As for the Jammie, the plastic is a concern since it can easily be damaged; and, components can get damaged easily as well. Can both be used with Sibelius Ultimate btw?

I just met the jamstick thanks to you, it's really cool but my hearts belongs to the Jammy.
Ps: you can also change the tunning for the Jammy(and probably jamstick as well, that's something midi guitars developers have been including in their products, to change tunning without touching the strings which I see as a great advantage)

Hi does jamstik fit in a regular guitar hardcase?

  • @jeetray11

I am a nylon guitar player and only nylon. Barely touched steel string or electric guitars. I want a guitar just for MIDI input with my guitar playing skills which is more fingerstyle. But I can do picking. Will Jammy be the right fit? I kinda leaning towards it. Because I am not a electric guitar player why buy a electric guitar? On the other hand if JamStik is superior in terms of MIDI features even slightly it may be a good choice because then I might teach myself some electric guitar playing. Please advise.

Excellent review. The one thing I'd like to know about the Jammy is what the string feel is like. The Jamstik uses regular guitar strings and a true guitar bridge, so action adjustments and different string gauges are obviously possible. The action on the Jammy appears to be fixed, and the strings look like they're nylon, though I can't tell for sure.

    • @PatrickBreenMusic

    • @MashaT22
      @MashaT22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have a JamStack Studio - was one of the first in the world to receive it. Anything you can do on a guitar can be done on Studio because it’s still an actual guitar - it’s an ALP Leaf with Jamstik electronics inside. You’re not going to be able to get string bends or get that guitar feel from the other “guitar” being shown. There’s just no way. If you listen to the audio, the quality of the audio detections is superior on Jamstik as it picks up little playing nuisances that the other doesn’t. Also, you can record midi and from the Studio simultaneously for lots of audio possibilities.
The only gripe I have is the method of string tuning sucks a bit on Studio as you need an Allen wrench (it comes with a mini one that’s magnetically attached to the bridge). And I wish the three way switch was a bit farther from the strings, but I’ve never heard anyone say it interferes with playing.
The other midi guitar reminds me of Jamstik 7 (and prior Zivix models), which is more for noodling and feels like a toy - I don’t think most people will like the feel of it if they play guitar already (maybe someone who doesn’t play guitar would be ok with using it for recording certain sounds). If you want a serious instrument for recording MIDI and playing like any other guitar, Studio is your best bet.
