On the set of The Princess Bride, André the Giant once ‘let out a 16-second fart and brought production to a standstill.’ Nobody said anything except director Rob Reiner, who said ‘Are you OK, André?’ to which André replied, ‘I am now, boss.’

I had the pleasure of meeting Andre the Giant at the Albuquerque airport when I was about 7 years old. He was as kind and gentle as he was huge. I'll never forget the smile he gave me. The man was legendary.

Robin Wright said that when she jumped to him at the end, even with them taking most of her weight off him, he could barely hold her because he was in too much back pain. So sad! He was definitely a gentle giant.

The way you were smiling throughout they movie best epitomizes what everyone else feels when watching The Princess Bride; pure joy. There are so few of them, but this is a perfect film. The pacing is good, the story is simple yet relatable, the acting is spot on, and the music is subtle but amazing. Love your pure reaction, Centane.

So many TH-camrs think the grandfather is Wesley because he says “as you wish.”
    No.
He was just saying “yes, I’ll come and read it again tomorrow” and “I love you” at the same time. It’s a rare, clean double entendre, and one of the best closing lines in movie history.

Late comment, but I've seen a bunch of reactions to this movie and it's fascinating how many female reactors completely don't understand the concept of fair and honourable combat. It's all 'you're letting him rest?!' and 'why are you handing him your sword?!'.
Such an interesting contrast, all the guys immediately get the idea of respecting your opponent and fighting on an equal playing field.

You may like this, an act of love. It was very cold, where they filmed. The giant used to put his hand on top of Princess Buttercup's head so she wouldn't get cold. There's so many acts of love, in the making o this movie,. This is just one of them. :)

During the scene where Inigo and Fezik give Wesley the pill to bring him back to life, Andre the Giant farted. According to Cary Elwes (Wesley) it lasted for sixteen seconds and rendered one of the sound crew partially deaf. And Hulk Hogan told him years later that that was normal for Andre.

    • @cra0422
      @cra0422 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah it's been documented by several wrestlers that one of Andre's favorite things to do in the ring was knock his opponent against the bottom turnbuckle and then stick his backside in said opponent's face and then let it rip.

So many awesome behind-the-scenes things I could mention, but this one is my favorite...concerning the guy who played Inigo. Some time before filming, his father had passed away from cancer. This quote is from the actor: "From the moment I read the script...I said I'm gonna do this part because in my mind if I get this six-fingered guy that means I killed the cancer that killed my dad..."

I'm really glad this movie was made when it was, and that it has held up in the years since it was made. If it were made today, they'd have CGI'd the everloving shit out of it, and probably even shoehorned in a musical number for no reason. Maybe they're not perfect, but I like the practical effects.

Wow a great movie for both boys and girls. This movie is based on a book. The scene with Wesley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. There was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow, The Never Ending Story and Labyrinthine 1986. Fyi the actor who plays the grandpa (Peter Falk Rip) played Columbo a funny homicide detective in a long old tv series you should see it.

"The chocolate coating makes it go down easier, BUT you have to wait fifteen minutes for full potency, and you shouldn't go in swimming for at least what..."
    "An hour"
    "Yeah a full hour"
    "Thanks"
"Bye bye boys" "Have fun stormin' the castle" "You think it'll work" "It'll take a miracle"
I had heard about the scene with Miracle Max and his wife that the relatively new actors in the lead roles, Mandy Patinkin, Andre The Giant, and Cary Elwes, had no idea who was under the makeup as Miracle Max and his wife Valerie. It bothered them at the time that they couldn't figure it out during the scene and didn't know who it was until after shooting the scene. It's such a funny story because Billy Crystal (Miracle Max) and Carol Kane, were already well known big names in the industry.
Another film I think that has a feel close to this film that was shot more recently (2007), is "Stardust". You might enjoy that too.

Fun fact: Lord Farquaad from Shrek was modeled after Prince Humperdink! Also as far as Wesley's pencil mustache it's a nod to the Swashbuckling era of Hollywood and stars like Errol Flynn, which this entire movie is a loving tribute/homage too. This is one of those few and far between perfect movies, that just has such a great blend of comedy, adventure, action and romance; not to mention great script, witty, playful and just down right fun dialog and incredible cast! I highly recommend reacting to The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Willow all being great fun movies I have a feeling you will enjoy since you had so much fun with this movie and were one big smile the entire time!

When Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) got his revenge and performed that epic scene, "I want my father back you son of a bitch." His father had passed away from cancer, so when said that piece of dialogue he did so as if he was saying it to the cancer that took his father. That's why it was performed so powerfully.

I can also relate to this. Not only was this one of my dad’s favourites, but cancer took him 6 years ago too. It took me a very long time to be able to watch this movie again.

I don't know if y'all noticed or not, but when that line was said, it wasn't said with the Spanish accent he used throughout the movie.

Yea, and Christopher Guest even said that Mandy's emotion and performance in that scene was so powerful, he was actually scared of him. High praise.

The book might have come before the movie... but you can't convince me this wasn't intentional (Rob Rhiner didn't have to cast Christopher guest as Rugen, but he did).
