Remote Control (1941)

Many of the necessary devices of our modern world are operated by remote control. Early illustration of the marionette dancers is used, then action progresses to modern traffic control, & then to the automobile with the vacuum gearshift dramatized.

At 6:25 it shows a green/yellow clearance interval before red. Either the controller was out of adjustment or this was one of the first installations using the yellow, as it seems the green/yellow display was being considered for nationwide application in the mid-1930s...

It was modern then. You don't go through life thinking that the present is past, and you can only know the newest development that is in the present. To any observer, what is newly developed in his or her time of observation is seen as modern, regardless of the time period.
