Ideally, Hila could fulfill that role by herself, but she just isn't knowledgeable on a fair number of topics, so Dan provides the second line of defense, followed by Ian, and then Zack. I don't think Dan, specifically, is essential to the show, but someone competent in that role kind of is? I do laugh when Ethan says something ridiculous and it cuts to him facepalming hard, rubbing his eyes and stuff.

I love this podcast (and the h3 main channel) and I've been a fan for years but there's been times where I've been put off by the show. My main issue I've come across is that Ethan clearly doesn't know much about politics yet some of these podcasts have devolved into hours long rants where he's presenting his opinion as hard facts and gets offended when people call him out for it. I think the structure of the show has definitely changed too (especially with how integral the behind the scenes guys have become) and when Dan started coming on camera more I didn't really care for it because I always liked just Ethan and Hila but I've come to like Dan and Zach and Ian. Also, in some ways the show has just flat out gotten boring (rarely any guests anymore and half the shows are just self referential topics that have nothing to do with anything outside the h3 studio or Ethan and Hilas own lives). I don't think them being "sellouts" is even a main reason for the hate they get, I think the people calling them sellouts are just the most vocal group against h3 while other people who are turned off in the ways I have been just silently unsubscribe and don't watch the videos again.

One is a scripted show, the other is, well a podcast. And I actually think having the guys in the back be a part of the show helps. Sometimes Ethan's tangents are just like his eyes and eyebrows. The guys help keep everything moving along.

@@ethanfields3853 I think you're overly generalizing the problems people have with h3. I love this podcast (and the h3 main channel) and I've been a fan for years but there's been times where I've been put off by the show. My main issue I've come across is that Ethan clearly doesn't know much about politics yet some of these podcasts have devolved into hours long rants where he's presenting his opinion as hard facts and gets offended when people call him out for it. I think the structure of the show has definitely changed too (especially with how integral the behind the scenes guys have become) and when Dan started coming on camera more I didn't really care for it because I always liked just Ethan and Hila but I've come to like Dan and Zach and Ian. Also, in some ways the show has just flat out gotten boring (rarely any guests anymore and half the shows are just self referential topics that have nothing to do with anything outside the h3 studio or Ethan and Hilas own lives). I don't think them being "sellouts" is even a main reason for the hate they get, I think the people calling them sellouts are just the most vocal group against h3 while other people who are turned off in the ways I have been just silently unsubscribe and don't watch the videos again.
@@tommym7321 you make a lot of really good points and I have to say for the most part I agree with you. One thing though you can't really compare H3H3Productions with the podcast. One is a scripted show, the other is, well a podcast. And I actually think having the guys in the back be a part of the show helps. Sometimes Ethan's tangents are just like his eyes and eyebrows. The guys help keep everything moving along.
