On the question of a "two-tracked belief system," a book I would recommend is Edmund D. Cohen's "The Mind of the Bible Believer" which argues that early Christianity had an exoteric and esoteric doctrinal system, the former for the rank and file followers and outsiders, and the latter for the inner core, with the external doctrines being created as a means of making the followers compliant with the leadership as well as keeping them out of trouble with the state.
My Roman Cathoic high school is where my doubt really started. It's no wonder - they taught the Greek tragedies and one year we studied the KJV Bible. So my belief seriously waned after that. And Paul is otherwise known as Saul of Tarsus. And I can tell you his alleged writings in Timothy make him a card carrying Misogynist. And I've already read Bill's book. Fascinating stuff. Thanks, Larry! The New Testament is heavily influenced by Aristotelian, NeoPlatonistic, Pythagorean, and Stoic philosophies, woven all throughout it. Zoroastrian and Egyptian influences abound. It copies extensively from the Greek pantheon and Mithraic beliefs. Luke and Acts are based heavily on Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, both in structure, detail, and quotes. The gospels also quote from and borrow storylines from Euripides and Virgil. The Gospel of Mark is based on the Zodiac, in the correct order of the constellations. The author of Luke borrowed from Josephus. The author of Luke was either Plutarch or heavily aware of Plutarch’s writings and copying from them as well. The NT quotes extensively from the Qumran/Dead Sea Scrolls Community Rules, Temple Scroll, War Scroll, Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice, etc. The NT quotes/plagiarizes the much older book of Enoch 100x, quotes other pseudepigraphal/deuterocanonical books hundreds of times, including endless quotes from The Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach/Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, Esdras, Jubilees, Judith, Tobit, The Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs, The Assumption of Moses, The Book of Jasher, The Life of Adam and Eve, etc. There are many quotes of earlier philosophers woven throughout the NT--not just where it's spelled out in Acts. Gematria (Jewish numerology) and early Kabbalah played a very large part, especially when mixed in with Pythagorean concepts (John 21's "153" fish, the numbers in the first 2 chapters of Luke, and all over Revelation). There are 40+ Gospels and 6+ books of Acts. There are forgeries and counter forgeries, including inside the canon. There is extensive astrotheology woven in. The list could go on and on--and it does go on, and I'm working on a massive project to document and share all the details of all of those subjects. But to answer your comment, I have already read the Bible several dozen times cover to cover, memorized thousands of verses in it, and am now studying the background to it all. I definitely love the truth and pursue it actively. Thanks for the encouragement to do so! --Tim
Much of his evaluation is shallow and would only trip up someone that is not familiar with the history of Christianity or have a shallow understanding of hermeneutics.
Christianity is shallow. Only the gullible, the very young and the indoctrinated cant distinguish myth, metaphor, legend, propaganda, and misinformation from the bible stories so they accept its shallowness as deep. Accept its hate bigotry and lies as love acceptance and truth. One of the biggest cons ever.

Here's an idea for the title of the book you could write... "The INSANITY of Christianity "
to sum up the new testament and Christian historiography: God sacrificed God to God to save God's creation from God, i.e., if Jesus was God...now, doesn't it make more sense...there was another youtube void I watched recently that was basically about what would you say to God if he(?) really does exist...my simple response: God, you make no sense.
It’s so interesting to hear him mock people who doubt the integrity of an election while doubting the integrity of a religion. This sentiment reminds me of christians explaining why other religions are false. It’s a futile argument, because they all are. In politics in America, left and right are simply sects of the same religion, encouraged to fight against one another in order to provide more power to the state. Please apply a little bit more of that critical thinking that you mock others for lacking toward deconstructing the cult of worship of the state (from any political view). It’s just as bogus as religion. People are just as brainwashed and the sects of the political religion are manipulated into mocking and hating one another by the entities they worship (who despise them).
Your mistake, of course, is that ONE side began to have a religious approach to its politics as represented in a single politician - and so has to project onto sane, responsible people that their approach is naturally the same.
@@AAwildeone And your mistake is that you believe that any of it matters. I mock all politicians. I wasn’t mocking him for mocking them. I just find it interesting. If you look at it through the lens of a non-political believer you may see the same thing. If I believe that it would do anything If I believed it would work, I would pray that you leave the religion of politics as well.
@@AnnaBananaRepublic You totally expressed how I feel politics is a belief and religion is a belief it’s all fake. Making a political comment . In my opinion it took away from the topic at hand.. Thank you Anna Banana Rama
Why are Americans so paranoid about their government? Being a skeptic about an election and politics is great. If you think there has been fraud seek the courts, have recounts and explore those doubts. When FACTS have been established ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ accept the result because that is DEMOCRACY. I challenged Brexit, it’s very hard to watch your country commit economic suicide because they have been conned by opportunists who have far from THEIR interests in mind but I accept the result. The only conspiracy I ever considered was the Kennedy assassination, I explored for years after but came to the conclusion life can be very strange, coincidences do occur. There were no dark figures on the grassy knoll.
Jesus could have never been a "charismatic Rabbi"... (1) there were no Rabbis in Jesus's purported time... (2) Deuteronomy 23:1 precludes Jesus from ever having even been considered as something approaching to being close to a religious leader of any kind.... (3) Jesus' teaching to his alleged disciples to mutilate themselves as he described in Matthew 19:12... is utterly in violation of the Mosaic law in Deuteronomy 23:2... no if he were real he could have never been anything to do with religious anything.
@@scienceexplains302 ... Rabbi does not mean teacher... it means Rab+i ... i.e Rab of mine... and Rab is an Aramaic word which means Master or Guardian... and Jesus due to his ill begotten nature could have not qualified as anything to do with any Rab as COMMANDED in Deuteronomy 23:1.

He is talking about jesus, unfortunately.

No, I actually meant exactly what I wrote.
Here's a head's up Tim for the title of the book you'll eventually write but it's only if you have enough balls as Dr. Richard Carrier and Richard Dawkins😄
Here's a suggestion for the title of the book you might write and there's no need for inhibitions because your FREE and no longer enslaved with shackles around your neck with the DELUSION of Christianity like I was many years ago under the bondage of a blood sacrifice death cult...
Here's an idea for the title of the book you could write...
"The INSANITY of Christianity "
It's the masters degree and actually needing to pay. 2:34
17:15 Annie Laurie Taylor says quote there is no baby in the bath water anyway to throw out.
to sum up the new testament and Christian historiography: God sacrificed God to God to save God's creation from God, i.e., if Jesus was God...now, doesn't it make more sense...there was another youtube void I watched recently that was basically about what would you say to God if he(?) really does exist...my simple response: God, you make no sense.
Christian religion, the one that got lucky
I'm a secular Buddhist. The Buddhists in SE Asia, and the rest of the world, are doing fine. 400M.
No, Judaism got lucky
Traditions can be nice, theatrically, but Don’t forget that under black robe is just a dude, maybe even none ethical Alito or Clarence Thomas.
Serves me right for using voice to text. Apparently Siri really wants me to talk about prayer ha ha

Horrible audio
The reason you feel better is because you dont have guilt when you sin now. You now have no fear of hell now. A lot of christians have a lot of guilt due to living in sin. And really fear there not saved. But its not surpose to be that way. In christ we are not condenm and we are at peace with God. Even if you fall to sin. The blood of christ still cleases you from your sins.
Nonsense
You are right on when you mention the politics deniers. There is a parallel in their blind beliefs on Trump and man made religions.
Very good interview. Nice to watch with some great ideas😅😊. Liked the Adam and Eve thought. The two got to know God and still had a free will to sin. Why doesnt God show a bit more to us🎉🎉🎉. Will see how his book is like. Thx to both!❤❤🎉❤
I was never a Christian (and never will be). However, when you live in a community where Jesus is king and you're not a believer you will be ruined. I know from experience.
