Just to let you know that you are not alone... I'm following what you are doing and I did more o less the same path... trying to solve a low power on my Mini Cooper S R53 2005 :(
That’s parts of the flexible section not part of the cat, the flexible is made up of a stainless steel inner with a braided outer, it shouldn’t flex unless the inner has failed
Not sure whether this will get read or not but I keep getting a subaru like sound after about 45 minutes of driving. Today I changed the exhaust manifold gasket in which id thought it fixed the issue and it later returned 35 miles later. Could it be a blocked cat causing back pressure???? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@@davekirk2291 hard to say, I only really came across the issue with mine by accident! Mine had a cheap sports car fitted which was breaking down causing the issue
I've got a 2009 mini one it was running rough , was over fueling ,I figured out it was the o2 sensor,it wasn't bringing up the fault code for o2 sensor I change both got the car running and ticking over
Does it still blow up the exhaust flexi? I think a compresion check and fuel pressue if its exsessive fuel pressure it can cause alot of wierd things and can damage to the cat and o2 sensor . Does your mini have valvetronic ?
@@olliesgarage yeah man, have ordered tmap and map sensors which should arrive soon, however a friend of mine had the same codes which were because his cat squashed up and blocked the exhaust. Thinking the same has happened as I have the same symptoms, also that would mean the sensors are working correctly… hopefully it’s an easy ish fix 🤞
I’m 99.9% sure that’s not an oem exhaust. The Cat was quite stubby with normal Coke can sides, they can still block up but this one looks rather sub standard
@@olliesgarage yep I’m uk based, I’m currently doing up a mini r53 that had blown up so replacing the engine, I’ve removed a decat and fitted an oem used header with cat to try and keep the noise down
@@tomo57these cars come standard with twin tail pipes most aftermarket exhaust for these also come with twin pipes, also they are mapped with a bit of overrun from the factory
Brutal man, on to the next vid for me... 😎

Fingers crossed between us we can sort our issues!!

@@olliesgarage I think that's something I'll look into this weekend. Thanks for the quick reply. This issue is rather bugging me 😂
Currently in the same issue. I have a 2007 mini cooper s with a clogged cat & don’t know what to do. Located in California. New cat is over 2k

is your problem the little bangs out of the Exhaust?

Check the bypass valve, these tend to be left open so the gasses go in the intake. Change that out and check again
I did check the bypass valve when I serviced the supercharger, but think I’d might be worth checking it again!
Genuinely cant hear anything wrong. I know these minis inside and out blindfolded. Maybe its just the audio but i dont hear anything.
My 2012 countryman starts fine but rpm goes up n down and sounds weak until about 30 seconds.
Any ideas??
I have a code for p0108 manifold absolute pressure. Am thinking this could be the issue.
@@alexanderallen898 p0108 refers to the MAP sensor which is on the intake rather than the exhaust.

Completely agree! Have been looking for a OEM CAT for the MOT test (Yearly test if you’re not in the UK) and they look very different!

I really dont hear what is wrong, seen 3 episodes, bus still I have no clue what the problem is...
Shows how tone deaf I am it sounds pretty ok to me
i think its got a race map on it put a standard ecu in and run it
I had thought about doing this!

It just sounds like it’s had a “pops and bangs” tune.

Genuinely thought you had cracked it when all that crap fell out
So had I!!
