    The problem with talking about engaging a system like the S400 is that it won’t just be alone in the middle of an open field. Itl have an entire network of smaller air defenses around it. Having short and medium anti air systems backing up the S400 make it significantly more dangerous as it’s much harder to directly attack.

      Well like he pointed out their is a whole range of approaches to attacking the C400 which are also applicable to all those supporting elements which if they are busy turtling around the C400 to survive then they cant be covering the rushing by ground forces who will then have to also Turtle under air defense restricting their maneuver and strategic depth exposing them to all the Indirect mass fires he was showing at the end. This is to say nothing of the Entire network of supporting UAS and satellites supporting SEAD and the greater campaign. USAF has been using decoy Drone swarms in the 100s to overwhelm and spoof air defense sense the first Iraq war and probably long before, Azerbaijan replicated the tactic with Israeli help to great success against Russian air defense systems which you might have seen. Just spamming a bunch of cheap small loitering munitions that cost a fraction of even the cheaper Russian SAMs easily over whelm C400 and most of its support point defense.

    Hi, RF engineer there ... actually you put it wrong about antennas. Lower frequency is used for overvier radar due to longer range without need of narrow beam. Higher frequency tracking radar need array of several antennas to produce very narrow beam to overcome losses over distance and it is inherent phenomena of such array to produce side lobes due to periodical interence across the radiation pattern

      @@marianandnorbert either way, what that means is that the way a radar ‘beam’ is formed on modern radars always produces sidelobes due to how the emitted energy waves interfere with each other.

    - using low flying jets
    - using radar jamming and attacking with aircraft
    - using two jets (very risky)
    More effective and less risky methods:

  • @deven6518
    @deven6518 3 ปีที่แล้ว +57

    You forget that interceptors can only independently track a target at a relatively short range. Air defense radars are also overlapped and can receive returns from another radar system. Hiding from one will make you visible to another. Also, when a search radar picks up a contact, the targeting radar will lock on so there is no would be no use to that. There is the issue with electronic jamming in that the radar return is near impossible to fake unless you happen to be sitting right there in the truck. Attacking from multiple directions is also an issue. Not only would another installation catch you, a search radar is able to do the long range navigation as well. The attack radar (high frequency radar) is only 100% necessary if it's a missile without onboard guidance. If it is a missile with terminal guidance, then the low frequency radar can get it within a few 10's of kilometers where it will do it's thing. It is pointed out that the system can engage multiple targets from multiple directions and considering there are different missiles, I have no reason to doubt.The detection range you pointed out is not quite accurate and many other issues with your strategies. Unfortunately, getting around the s400 or any comprehensive radar network is a task, even for a stealth aircraft.
    Remember how stealth works. That rcs is the lowest radar return assuming that you are facing directly at the radar system and presenting your least observable features. But radar waves are mostly deflected rather than absorbed and any other system on the area will put some heat on you.
    Moral of the story, it's never a good m day to be an attacking pilot.

      Its a #PoorAssesment by the host.
      Why? For him saying that S-400 is stationary in a single location --- no! Its not! Its mobile and can be placed anywhere.
      Secondly, the host said, the engagement radar looking at one direction. Thereforth, it can be destroyed from its blindspot if attacked from both sides, front & back --- WRONG!
      Why? Do you think, in the real war, the #Russians will place only one engagement radar looking only at one side? Off course, theyre not stupid to do so. Ok
      Perhaps, they can place 3 or 4 engagement radars looking at every side.
      The host said, the s-400 can be attacked by a low flying fighter plane, another poor assesment.
      In the real war scenario, does he think that if war is drclared between the US and Russia, then the Russians will let any aircraft carrier get near to its positions? Off course, big NO NO! Since the S-400 can strike target from around 400 - 600 km away, then just before any US planes take into flight from its aircraft carrier will be met with s-400s, then the Russians fighter planes will have plenty of time to meet US airforces in the air.

    Couple things to keep in mind, the first you did mention towards the end, they have not been used so all you are going on is guesses and what Russia -who hopes to sell them, say. Second in games, units or systems are roughly approximated at best. For the S 400 this is an approximation giving the games capabilities of an approximation. Another thing to keep in mind about games is that they often are more concerned about challenge and playability then recreating a perfect simulation of actual capabilities. Nobody wants to play a game that is WAY too easy or hard.

    This video is set up on the premise that only *one* search and *one* target radar are part of a SAM battery. In practice, SAM batteries have more Radars and different locations. A certain city in my country is defended by 8 SAM batteries with 3 different types of missile systems. One battery that I spotted had 2 search Radars and 3 target Radars. All the sites around te city are reportedly linked together for better data processing and noise filteration.
    So in conclusion a well prepared, linked and positioned SAM battery systems are a huge threat which is the way most countries establish SAM batteries.

Aircraft Carriers, Ground Air Bases, ICBM Missile sites, SLBM) before they can launch their planes and missiles, because once launched, they can effectively overwhelm and defeat your SAM systems. America should prepare for and anticipate a Russian pre-emptive attack soon.

    Perhaps the best way to attack a SAM site, S400 included, is to send in wild weasels (which nowadays can even be armed drones) - to get the radars turned on .... then cut loose ECM and HARMs simultaneously when they radiate. It's still a guess as to which platform would prevail. S400s are supposedly pretty good weapons, and they do have ECCM capability, so those drones would have to be a sort of swarm attack in themselves. Since the S400 sites are networked, you couldn't count on ALL the radars being turned on at once when you attack. It'd be a tough nut to crack, in my lay opinion. :)

    The newest missiles used with Wild Weasel tactics don't need an active radar to home. They remember where the radar was and keep going. They can also be used to attack launch sites as the data system on the launching platform remembers that as well. The information sharing systems that will be coming online in a couple years (or maybe even now) will allow another platform to fire on those targets without exposing themselves.

    Forget about your stealth technology when dealing with the S-350 Vityaz, S-400 and S-500. These systems have more than one radar. There is also a Bistatic radar 52E6, which uses the location "on the lumen". During operation, the transmitter sends signals in the direction of the remote receiver. Static or moving objects are detected by the distortion of pulses reaching the receiver. Further, the radar automation is able to tie the route and transmit data to consumers.

    One other way is to go in slow. The radars only shoot at fast targets. If they shoot at slow targets they would destroy their own cars and trucks. So in one of the Iraq wars the main Iraqi air defence radars was taken out by Apache helicopters flying slow instead of the faster F117 stealth bomber.

    • @moffatcam
      @moffatcam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The radars do NOT care about speed. Also radar is facing the skies, if it detects a truck or car, someone’s crashed into the antenna 😂
      I don’t know what example you’re referencing, but likely, the Apache’s survived due to the fact ground radars are highly susceptible to ”ground clutter” helicopters can stay close to the ground and thus are far less visible to radar.

    @markfischer3626 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The most effective way to blind all radar over a very wide range for a serious attack whether conventional or nuclear is the nuclear blackout effect created by detonating nuclear weapons above the earth's atmosphere. It works by at least 3 methods, excitation of the ionosphere, excitation of the Van Allen radiation belts and EMP. the effect was discovered independently in 1962 by the US and USSR. So this is where the first explosions would occur. After that these systems and others that depend on radar won't take out a single midsile, warhead, or plane stealthy or not. So in a nuclear war even systems like S500 and S550 are useless. As Russian weapons become able to take out ICBMs in space during mid flight nuclear weapons may have to be stationed in orbit permanently ready to detonate without any warning.

    You have to use the same frequency as a radad use for jamming . So you have to know this frequency or just mirror incoming signals. But radad can use random frequency for every "ping" signal. Jamming will not work in this case: The first answer will be definetly correct, the next answers should be analized by computer with previous answers and compare them with potential positions (all aircrafts has speed limits) and we get only several potential targets.
    To be honest I don't know how works real anit-jamming system this one I've just invented. But as a programmer I can say that it is pretty easy problem.

    The point is that an integrated and networked Russian air defense system that includes the S-400 cannot be defeated without a major SEAD strike, which would take weeks of planning and use up vast amounts of munitions. In Russia or Ukraine, it could not possibly be launched by surprise. If the strike is a failure, it cannot be repeated for a long, long time thanks to the munitions expenditures. The USA fired hundreds of anti-radiation missiles during the Bosnian War but never did succeed in completely suppressing the Serbian anti-air missile system. With factories and depots nearby, the Russians could repair or replace any damage to their missile systems very quickly.

    They are called "MISSILES" because they miss more often than they actually hit in reality. Otherwise, they might be called HITTLES... LOL.

    The S400 has 3 radars but the short and medium range systems are im sure integrated, possibly with other search radars or passive radars .

    The Turkish drone is not detectable to Russian radar.

    Aircraft can be detected by radar. US constantly tries going to into Russian territory to see how far they can get undetected, and Russian pilots end up meeting them and escorting them out, typically before they are allowed to get too into Russian territory. Were you not aware of this? Also, s400 has been used in combat, uh, Syria? They have s400 defending the 2 military bases. Bunch of advanced drones attacked them.

    I didnt hear anything about stealth missles like JASSM. How would S400 stop 1 or several of those?
