This was an awesome tip. I have a bestway above ground pool. I purchased the pool vac head and hose then discovered, via youtube, that you need to stuff around purchasing extra connections to attach the hose to the pool outlet port. This video meant i didnt have to go to that extent. Plenty of suction as i sucked out green slime from bottom of pool
Today, you are my hero!! The last two weeks we have been struggling to clean an algae issue with our above ground pool. What you did here solved the issue and saved the last three days of my pool vacation. Thank you!!!!!!
Looks good. I took it a step further and bought a pool pump (variable speed so I need less amps and just connect with a 12 gauge extension cord), bolted it down to a little rolling cart I made and connected the hose to that. The cart also has a little cartridge attached (not necessary but another option), so I can shoot the water back in the pool and just clean the cartridge (and not have to refill the pool). This allows me to just pull the unit out of my truck and roll it around the pool (Not a pool service guy but I service a few friends in my area). This obviously also eliminates having to mess with getting the end of the hose lower for water flow. Been working well for the last few years.
Thank God you're a Genius! My pool filter, heater, pump was stolen from my property. This summer was too hot and you just gave me the perfect solution. I grow alfalfa and this is a perfect water system to use I have to plug all the ducts that used to go to the filters and pump and heater. :| . Gracias from Mexico
Also don’t waste money on those Chinese made cordless electric vacuums. No matter what you do, they just shoot algae out the exhaust. I used this method but used a small wet vac to prime.
I had a problem with my pump, so I hooked a wet vacuum to the pool vac hose. turned it on while my son was vacuuming the pool and when the wet vac was full I turned it off and pulled the plug to empty it and it kept pulling water. Was able to finish cleaning the pool without turning the Wet Vac back on
Bro, thanks! I've been looking for a way to vacuum my pool while my pump/filter is out of order. I'm going to give it a try first thing in the morning...
@@PoolCareWorld The concept was great, but it didn't work for me because of the way my pool sits. I couldn't place the water hose below the pool level to keep the water flowing when siphoning.
@@DG-ms5hw it sometimes takes a couple try’s if it a above ground pool it should work! Watch the second half of the video where I’m standing level with pool stand holding the hose pushed down while cupping it with your hands. It may be minimal but should see water start flowing
That’s a game changer I have a cartridge filter when I would vacuum my pool it would just blow back in the pool now it goes out on the ground so it makes cleaning so much faster but for above ground pool it’s a two person job because that hose gets heavy and you have to fight it
brilliant! thanks for sharing. Unfortunately my pool is in the ground and I cannot find a place nearby that is lower than it... So for me it does not work
Never thought of it I would assume so you can also put the opposite end in the pool up to a jet and wait for water to come out on ground steady flow. But I was trying to show how to do it “without a pump” and I just always use garden hose for that 👍🏻
manually fill the hose is a great idea I haven't tried! the only thing is most the time the pool is dusty and I'm not trying to disturb the bottom. I can definitely see it working great in a larger pool though. I'll let you know when I try it!
This siphoning works because of “gravity”, but you must remember that in order for you to keep a continuous flow of water going that the end of the hose MUST be LOWER than the vacuum head and/or the end of the hose that is in the water!!! So, in other words, if the output end of the hose is lifted higher than the suction end of the hose you will lose prime and your gravity siphon pump will not work anymore until you re-prime it and get it flowing again!!!
Would it be beneficial to have a system with a wagon and a pump and filter and just plug it in and not waste all that water? Seems very wasteful to just siphon for long periods. Maybe I am not on the same level?
Yes but in something like this any excuse to drain and refill with fresh water! Basically it’s a big Spa. But yes you are correct it does affect all the chemicals! We always try and balance the chemicals at the end of vacuuming to waste. It’s a minimal amount of water that can be easily rebalanced. Thanks for watching!
Is the pool elevated ? If the water pressure isn’t high enough you may say to try it with a sweeper noozle and hold it on longer. If the pump is running you can also put the vacuum end up to the jet till a steady stream is coming out the opposite end on the deck. Hopefully that help you definitely need some elevation
After doing this I had mixed results. Yes he is right you will create a siphon but the results are not as they seem. Which is why you did not see a Timelapse video as was happening. The problem is that inevitably you will keep up debris and May have to do this in several applications to get small debris back down to complete the process. So all in all I would not rate this application a ten maybe a 5 at best. The thing to remember this is not a one or two day process in my opinion.
There were no tricks or video edits in this video just sped up the footage. The siphon created depends on the initial creation and having enough of a hill to put the end of vacuum hose. You’ll see as I toss hose down stairs the siphon increases. Best of luck to you!
@@PoolCareWorld again results will vary my stuff is on my ring camera so I have no reason to lie anyone. As I stated before you are correct about the that way to make a siphon. But anyone thinking this is a one two three process is sadly mistaken. No matter how slow you go you will inevitably kick up some debris and have to do it again. I don’t believe anyone can say that doing process will not kick up debris 100 percent of the time going as slow as possible. I stand by my comment. The argument is not about creating a siphon because I tried it and it worked, but to assume that doing it as you have will be done with just that one time and no debris be kicked up and not sucked out is wrong.
@theopinions47 the hose should be elevated at surface while priming and vacuuming only once full siphon started at the pace of suction. But all that being said I did have to vacuum the pool twice on the video.
@theopinions47 Watch the video again at the point where we vacuum the seat in deep end it’s real time. An the chemicals were added a few days before but the vacuum was two days back to back the second time was first thing in morning.
Clarifier also helps and chlorine ! CHLORINE stabilizer why is your pump so weak? That and no chlorine makes a pool unsafe to swim in. Cloudy can mean bacteria. I didn't see you add a drop of chlorine
We did add chlorine and a phosphate treatment just focused the video on the vacuum technique. Check out our other videos if you want more in depth! Believe me I’m with you no one’s swimming in any of our pools without chlorine this was a Airbnb we had it perfect for them at check in 🤙🏻
If you saw the filter you wouldn’t be saying that lol it’s basically a big spa not set up for vacuuming. Still servicing today and after these vacuums there’s no more dust

Any vacuum would work? I love this idea. A must try.
Yes but whatever vacuum you use it would be best to prop it up towards the surface when starting the vacuum prime
Would a shop vac work to start the siphon? Thanks for the video.

What do you do if inground pool is level with ground? There’s no low spot
It may not work for you the water will have to be elevated from the end of the hose to create the siphon
Prime with a shop vac but the outlet has to be lower to sustain the flow
Ty! You just saved us with this.
Could i just use a normal hose and try this ? I only have a small pool maybe 3ft ..
Yes but smaller hose = less suction

Wow thanks for that info! Learned something new today!

Wouldn't using this method throw off pH, CYA, TA, borates (if used) by having to add water?
Yes but in something like this any excuse to drain and refill with fresh water! Basically it’s a big Spa. But yes you are correct it does affect all the chemicals!
