It's not easy being a bore. I wasted too much time trying to do things so people would like me, and it turned out none of that mattered because in the end I was a bore. I eventually realized I should stop caring if people liked me. So I'm just a bore. Oh well.
@@taopilot2669 I doubt you’re that boring. You just need to stop caring what other people think and make an effort to do your own thing. I had t he same problem all through high school.
except Quagmire barely owns up to the fact that he's awful... he shits on Brian for hitting on Lois when he's consistently done the same throughout the series, likely more times than Brian. Also, the dude is a sexual predator. You can't just casually spike women's drinks and hit on underage girls and then act like you're better than someone who is dishonest in relationships because hey, at least he owns up to it (which I actually haven't actually seen him do)
@@ravedeath7690 the show is so random and non canon that i believe it's the writers fault for that, it's hard to believe that glenn in this scene who appear to be logical and rational is the same idiot predatory glenn we knew in the other scenes
It's a cool detail, because Brian's question insinuates that Quagmire is being ridiculous for not liking Brian, which shows that Brian is so full of himself that he didn't even understand how anyone could dislike him, before Quagmire did his rant. He proved Quagmire's point right before Quagmire even dissected his personality flaws.
@@Mrpersonman0 They're not the same question. "Why don't you like me" would straightly ask the reason behind someone not liking you. It insinuates that the person asking just wants to know the specific reason why they're not liked by another person. "HOW could you not like me" also demands the specific reason for why a person isn't liked, however it addresses the manner of the person that's being asked, to question the other person's behavior and especially if their behavior is puzzling. Brian asked Quagmire how he could not like him, not just because he didn't understand his own flaws, but also because he genuinely didn't understand and did not like Quagmire personally disliking him. He addressed Quagmire as if his behavior was illogical or in the wrong because he did not like Brian. That's what we call a loaded question, and that was Brian's mistake in starting a serious talk.
topnottalking it wasn’t an argument. Brian had asked Quagmire to explain why he didn’t like him. Had Brian retaliated, he would’ve just fueled Quagmire’s roast session.
The one genuine question everyone wants to ask but due to social stigma as well as the actual effects of the question. Just can't. This scene holds way more weight than just a roast. I love it but also pity how real it is.
I wouldn’t say that’s too arrogant since your well liked by everyone, than all of the sudden one person doesn’t like you. That would be confusing. But yes saying “Why do you not like me?” is better.
@@KoopalingfanIt’s completely different, in my opinion. “Why” is a question aimed at one person. “For what reason don’t YOU like me?” is what that question means. “How can you not like me” is significantly more arrogant. It’s more a question like “For what possible reason could you NOT like me?” Which is insanely arrogant. It implies that there’s no logical reason to dislike you. It’s normally something people say tongue in cheek, or flirtatiously in a non serious way. If someone legitimately said “how can you not like me?” that to me is a huge mark of arrogance. It shows that you believe you are owed friendship and being liked, which nobody is.
I love how quagmire always hated Brian but never voiced the reasons until he was asked point plant. A lot of people “hate” others for no good reason but quagmire had the reasons, he just didn’t care enough or feel the inclination to voice them until called upon.
Everyone has their reasons. Quagmire benefits from having his speech prepared and scripted by a TV writer. Most people, when asked "why don't you like me?" are going to be too defensive and emotionally compromised to form a cogent argument.
My problem with this is everything he hates about. Brian is just himself he constantly hit on his best friend's wife and only one of them is an actual sex offender and sexual predator that spikes women's drinks and has had sex with underage girls multiple times. And yeah, while he can admit it, he doesn't change anything which makes him way worse than Brian because he hasn't done that being able to admit that you're wrong and then actively not changing. It is worse than not being able to admit it because you are acknowledged that you're doing something wrong, but then you choose to continue to do it
He’s not sly about it though. Lois and Quagmire both know how he is and he respects Peter enough not to break his trust. There has been one or two times he has slept with Lois but it’s hard to tell if those are part of the current continuity.
But he doesn’t live with Peter and his family. Imagine living with a whole family, getting all your needs met by their paychecks, and having the gall to openly flirt with your best friend’s wife-while giving advice to and hanging out with their kids.
@@ReconNarwhal as soon as Peter and Lois split, Quagmire went right for her and almost slept with her. Ya you can they aren’t together anymore but that’s still a really bad friend
I still find it kinda weird and oddly fascinating how Seth McFarlane managed to make, essentially an argument with himself, sound so realistic and emotional.
I feel like it was personal in a way. He's always said that Brian is the most similar to him out of all the characters in the show. Plus he doesn't even really change his voice for Brian , he just uses his normal one.
Naw cause Quagmires ol fat chin ass be doin da same stuff and even worse. At least Brian is up front wit his women and not druggin them before havin sex wit em. Quagmire can shut da hell up and Peter needs to whoop his ass for foolin wit his dog.
Quagmire: “You constantly hit on your best friends wife and you’re a terrible father” Also Quagmire: Constantly hits on Lois, cheated with Cleveland’s wife and has many, many illegitimate children he’ll never see or visit.
Actually Cleveland’s wife cheated with Quagmire last I checked. Plus in the cases of those illegitimate children: Quagmire likely already left the mothers of those children before he knew they were pregnant
This is so painfully reminiscent of a road trip I went on with a woman who was so passive aggressive and I gave up trying to say anything witty. Me especially when it comes to my stepdad. This scene lives rent-free in my head because I can picture it with my stepdad serving as Brian and me serving as Quagmire; me calling out my stepdad's abusive and pretentious bullshit and admitting that I've done some horrible things that I've regretted and even recently tried to fix.
@@GhostGuy99 dude, I get that so much. My father was...something else. He wasn't abusive, but he wasn't there for me much, not as much as I needed him to be, and my mom and I were more like utilities for him when he needed something done.
As much as Quagmire comes off as hypocritical at some points, his criticisms aren't wrong. Brian really changed from the first few seasons and not at all in a good way.
The fact that Brian said “How can you not like me?” Instead of something like “Why don’t you like me?” is probably what made him even more unlikeable in Quagmire’s book.
@@samflood5631 how and why are two different questions.. *How* implies that its nearly impossible not to like him, or as if there is nothing not to like about him
My favorite part is that quagmire didn’t even take a second to think about it, he just has this articulate and detail-oriented roast ready off the dome
when you have that much pent up frustration and the dam breaks, you dont really need a rehearsal, you can kinda just keep going til you run outta steam or say everything that needs said. It fuels itself. The moment brian realizes someone doesn't like him he immediately tries to get them to like him I'm pretty sure if quagmire started liking brian I'm pretty sure brian wouldn't care
Some people are missing the point, Quagmire is aware he’s all those things he pointed out to Brian, the difference is Quagmire isn’t trying to hide that he’s a terrible person, he’s telling Brian he’s just as bad as him
I don't think that's what he's doing. He admits that he does some of the things but alot of other things he's done and he's acting like he hasn't. I think this is just an continuity error
He is some of the things he said brian was but he was either up front about it or at least tries to hide it and he didn't try to have sex with his best friends wife he liked her but he tried to hide it
@@samflood5631 Because of basic english. "How" implies brian is surprised. Like he can't comprehend in any way that no one would like him. It's not a "Why?" implying he truly wants to learn and listen, it's a "How?" of arrogance. It's why Quagmire goes off on him so hard.
Notice how Brian asks him "HOW can you not like me?" And not "WHY you don't like me?" Thats because in Brian's mind he is such a great and amazing being, so talented that everyone needs to love him, while in reality he is so delusional and in denial about himself, not even seeing how douchbag he actually is
Quagmire doesn’t hate Brian because of all the bad things he’s done (Quagmire has done just as much if not worse), he hates him because he’s dishonest and pretends that he’s a better person than he is.

This is both one of the best and worst scenes. It is so cathartic to see Brian be knocked off of his high-horse, even for a little bit. It’s a fantastically beautiful rant about why Brian is so awful. The bad is that this shows that Seth knows all the bad things about Brian, things that the people who watch his show criticize, but he hasn’t changed Brian’s character. It would have been so much better if this was something that kept getting brought up, or something similar to the way they handled Brian’s book, have it in the background but always have it present. They could have made Brian the likable character he was in the early seasons, but now he’s just a husk of his former self. Now, Brian is just an evil demon wearing the skin of someone who was once so nice. Edit: I forgot about Seth not writing anymore, so just replace “Seth” with “The Writers”.
Indeed. People are missing the point. Quagmire isn't talking about how bad Brian is, nor is he trying to prove that Quagmire is above Brian in any way. He's simply stating why he dislikes Brian. Quagmire even states specifically that he wouldn't care about all that bullshit if Brian wasn't such a boring asshole.
For an otherwise silly cartoon, this is incredible voice acting. He starts calm, and as he keeps going, he keeps getting angrier and angrier, and his voice keeps rising, with each level of disgust he has for Brian.
Seth is completly aware of what Brian's problems as a character are and why people dislike him so much, but instead of trying to make him improve in any way, he chooses to keep it that way, only being self aware
BILL CIPHER Yup, exactly. Family Guy doesn’t know how to be funny anymore so instead settles for cheap entertainment by making all the characters unlikable assholes.
@@oldgregg963 As I recall, he's not even writing for the show anymore, he let that in the hands of other people. Sure enough he probably wasn't hoping much from them but at least they could have done something worthwhile, but no, they do this.
This is so ridiculous. Quagmire is most of these things but worse. He not only hits on his best friend's wives but also their daughters. He continuously rapes and drugs random women he finds at the bar, but still thinks it's better to admit that he does and feel proud of it rather than to deny or feel guilty that he does like Brian. On top of that the few women that he did hit it off with have his children that he neglects to see so he can't even call Brian a terrible father when he abandons hundreds of his own children. And in recent episodes, he acts like a sad, pathetic, and boring old cat lady, so there's no right for him to call anyone else a bore. Plus his career as a pilot is kind of questionable. He does a lot of weird things during his shifts and often puts his passengers lives in dangwr because of his own antics.
Honestly what I would have loved the most for this episode is instead of Quagmire hating Brian, it was Joe hating Quagmire. Because think about it, in recent years Quagmire has had a dramatic change in character, they toned him down from being this sex crazed rapist. So instead, the episode is focused on Quagmire being surprised Joe hates him, how could he hate him after all this time? Well Joe has really only hung out with Quagmire when Cleveland and Peter are with them. Then Joe goes through this speech, and this acts the catalyst to kinda explain why Quagmire has changed alot recently.
@Zombie DPiece Probably to be honest. Not sure if its Seth being self aware or not though since he usually comes off as rather egotistical from what I have seen.
Old Brian is missed to this day. I understood family guy straying away from evil Stewie later on because it got old but they had no reason to change Brian. He went from a guy who wasn’t perfect but a guy who you could rely on and call a true friend. Now he’s just a dick.
Who cares if it got old? Changing characters from a complete 180 only sets a precedence of laziness and inability. Who cares if people like Stewie or not? You're not going to like every character. The biggest problem with retconning characters, is when you're so used to it that some of the characters you DID like, you won't like any more because a hack of a writer can't keep consistency worth a damn and then throws in a Trump chicken fight for the lolz. Or their not so subtle approach to Republicans and/or Conservatism. I'm a liberal and I find their liberal agenda fascist. Liberalism means upholding "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" not the same quote minus those who don't fit your worldview. Quagmire is entirely right about the textbook liberal agenda and it fits Brian and Seth and Family Guy to a T. As he is entirely textbook generic about his liberal views. He's just not as self-aware anymore because he's a closeted conservative. Ever seen American Dad? That show is pro-conservative AF and its far more hilarious and entertaining. Family Guy has had its moments over the years and once in a while, they'll make another one, but its becoming increasingly sporadic with Seth's poor writing habits. Layoffs and salary cuts are never fun for anyone, and in Quagmire's field of flying it could've been a good chance to open that conversation about flight disruption and maybe even create a small bond between them. Lauren Ahiable I think Quagmire’s point with the Louis thing is that Brian should be grateful to Peter, yet he continues to take from him and try to sleep with his wife. It’s more about the fact that he’s ungrateful and greedy rather than the sexual interest. Quagmire has shown interest in Louis and slept with Loretta, but he doesn’t really owe anything to Peter and Cleveland. Sure, that’s bad behavior, but he is aware of that and accepts it, plus Loretta did consent to sleeping with him so that’s on her too. He’s certainly a perverted character, but he knows that and isn’t trying to deceive himself. The rest of his points are pretty straightforward and valid. Quagmire is not a perfect character (obviously, it’s Family Guy lol), but he is far from the worst and I think this is a pretty impressive moment for him.
Travis Stoudt tbh u may have a point. For the past few year Lois has turned into quite a bitch. @@vmc1203ify as bad as Quagmire is, and he is bad, Brian is definitely worse in my opinion mainly because he is so pretentious. Quagmire is somehow more of a likeable character because he's not disillusioned about who he is and he has a more level headed perspective of himself. Those are just my thoughts after watching much of the series. The reason why everyone always laughs whenever Brian fails at something or gets his ass kicked is because he's so arrogant, disrespectful and undeserving of any success in life. Quite a few scenes and episodes come to mind.
The real tragedy is (like with Rick & Morty and Jerry) audiences tend to blindly hate on whoever the show tells them to. If every character in Family Guy got a 2 minute deconstruction of their flaws I’m sure some of the grievances listed against other characters would be far worst than a sense of self-importance. But since Quagmire hates Brain and tells us how to we do too. There are so many things more egregious than pretension.
I'll give Quagmire props for admitting that he's terrible and even being proud of it...but still, this just doesn't feel right. Yeah he's calling out Brian for being... everything he just described in this video, but my dude, Quagmire, you're a sex maniac who lusts over your friend's wife too and even their daughter when she turned 18 and admitting to it makes you a better person by comparison?
Sorry folks, I can’t give Glenn a “at least he doesn’t or does….” pass here. A person who admits they’re a bad person and continues to be a bad person is never going to be above someone who refuses to admit it. Honesty is literally meaningless without any kind of contrition in my eyes.
This is one of things I often worry about myself. I'm not the most sociable person and so I feel like I don't have a ton to say, but I still enjoy the company of my friends. However, my friends tend to laugh and play around more with each other than me. One friend, who I've known for almost two years and consider a best friend, seems to be a lot more playful around someone who they've known for a few months. Exhibiting traits I haven't really seen when they were hanging out with me. Really bruises my ego and self-confidence, and makes me think they see me as a casual friend bordering on acquaintanceship.
I get it since was on the same boat but as I grew older I realized that if anybody is going to like me, I had to like myself first. It wasn't easy reprogramming my brain like that but eventually I came to not hate/Feel inadequate. Mainly because I stopped caring what other people thought about me and started doing things I liked. Eventually people who enjoyed my company still hang out while others simply went away. In the end I found that liking myself should come first then taking care of others second is my path to happiness.
I know a girl like Brian and I roast her for this all the time. She reads a lot of "research" to always back up the same textbook leftwing views on every subject. I don't need to hear about your super deep dive into a very narrow pool.
Quite fitting, considering Brian is his Mary sue. That show is such a bore filled with nuisances. This is one oc the only scenes where I could laugh. And this scene is also gratifying.
Brian got way worse in later seasons. Acting like a prima Donna after writing a best seller and mistreating Stewie, not telling the authorities about the awful conditions of Stewies daycare because he wanted to sleep with the owner, knowingly giving Chris and Stewie Herpes, using his estranged son to get a spot on the writing team of a tv show, letting a woman and her baby drown, a facade he put on for the blind woman he dated, trying to hook up with one of Megs friends who was most like underaged (statutory rape), framing a co-worker for drugs because she caught him masturbating over a FB photo of her at a funeral, and ripping off Quagmire after he helped Brian get his teeth fixed.

No he doesn't. He just cherry picks Brian's mistakes and doesn't realize that Brian is a better person than him. I mean, he said Brian only complains about society and never does anything to improve it. Did he forget the lengths Brian went through to lift the ban on gay marriage (something Quagmire refused to help with)? On top of that, he claims Brian never worked at a soup kitchen but Brian was literally working in a soup kitchen few episodes earlier.
No, Brian is worst. Brian is self indulgent, self arrogant and super pretentious. Yes, I know all of quagmires faults but he can admit them at least and that alone makes him a better person. Pretentious people are the worst to be around. They’re insufferable
@@maciek8159 when quagmire never admits to them. Plus how can you say Brian's the worst. When he showed up and offered up both kidneys to Peter. While quagmire saw best happened to Peter and didn't visit him in the hospital once.
Despite the pooping part it seems like he's having an argument with himself and listing everything he hates about himself and what he thinks others hate about him
The "worst" part about Brian is what he says right before Quagmire erupts: "How can you not like me?" Not "why don't you", but "how can you not". Brian is so self-absorbed and so sure of his own likability that he cannot understand how someone could not like him. He has a thousand faults on top of the ones Quagmire listed, and if he gave a damn about anyone other than himself, he'd see "how" someone could view him as a rotten person. Instead, he's stuck in a fantasy world he's constructed in which he's such a great guy and so far above everyone else that for someone to not like him is simply inconceivable. "How can you not like me" is not a question anyone should ever ask.
No, Quagmire hated Brian before that. The sister thing just made it worse because at that point Brian knew Quagmire hated him and rather than just flat out asking him why like he does here, he tries to be awkward and make it seem like a coincidence instead, making a few off hand remarks that get him in trouble.
"At least I'm being honest about it" is a terrible point if you're passing it as something that makes you better than the other person. Sometimes it takes time and reflection to pinpoint, let alone admit your defects to yourself. If you can be honest about them, that means you're fully aware of them, but you still find it easier to point out defects on other people than making the effort you need to make to change yourself.
It's coming from a guy that admits that he does wrong but doesn't change it. Being able to admit something but not changing. It is worse than not being able to admit Quagmire is a sex offender and sexual predator who slept with underage girls multiple times who also hits on his best friend's wife so he's also a hypocrite
The problem is that while Quagmire has definitely done some horrible things, the reason why he hates Brian is that even though he does most of those same things along with a few worse things, Brian acts like he’s better and smarter than everyone else. Quagmire isn’t saying that he’s better than Brian, He’s saying that Brian is no better than him.
People be acting like Quagmire owned Brian in this scene when he’s done everything he’s criticizing Brian for, and on a worse level than him. This is literally just a rapist thinking he’s better than a narcissist because he’s honest about being a rapist
Quagmire is no saint himself, but in this episode he was the avatar of the many long time Family Guy fans who have grown to dislike Brian over the years for all the reasons Quagmire listed.
Quagmire already said he is awful to but he is honest about it, he's trying to prove a point, that is brian is no better than him and not quagmire is better than brian.
Yeah. Saying “how can you not like me” is like saying “you have no right to dislike me, how can you possibly defend your crime,” in a seemingly nicer form. Now, “why do you not like me” is a genuine question. And many of the things Quagmire said was proved in that one statement; Brian’s narcissism.

Also, the dude is a sexual predator. You can't just casually spike women's drinks and hit on underage girls and then act like you're better than someone who is dishonest in relationships because hey, at least he owns up to it (which I actually haven't actually seen him do)

@@Mrpersonman0 I said shut up you dork

@@Koopalingfan It is the epitome of arrogance. Because it means you are aware of your status among other people and believe you are entitled to it.
@@NinetooNineI see your point, but still.
@@ivans562 Sure your right about that. But Brian didn’t know why Quagmire didn’t like him.

Seth had quit writing after 2011 so by then it was too late, the flanderization already hit

Rizzla CS Everything.
what quagmire meant is that he doesn't go around preaching he dates woman for her personalites and brains, he admits he dates them for their bodies.
What episode was this with Joe and Quagmire?

Seth himself has admitted his love and effort goes into American Dad.

Brian needed to have this talk, but quagmire isn't the character to do it, Brian isn't great, but quagmire is worse, he's arguably the worst character in the show, he's a serial rapist, pedophile, zoophile, he's killed people, he mentions how Brian is a bad friend because he loves lois, but quagmire also does that, he has sexually harassed peters wife and his daughter multiple times, and his defense is "at least im honest about it" which is stupid, that's like if someone's like "hey, I may have murdered 12 families, but at least I turned myself in", admitting your faults doesn't make you a good person, doing something to try and change that, is what pushes people to become good people, like the argument he made is good, but it's completely worthless coming from him, like most characters wouldve been better.
As least Quagmire admit himself as a very terrible person and honest about everything he say, unlike Brian who doesn't admit it.
@@omnikingdaat6672 you see how that doesn't make him better tho right? 0:35 Sad thing about this scene looking back, Brian could've easily shown some empathy for Quagmire here.
Healthy Boy it’s Lois
Travis Stoudt tbh u may have a point. For the past few year Lois has turned into quite a bitch. And what Quagmire thinks is "the worst" in Brian is nothing compared to the fact that he is literally a sick criminal who put almost all women under drugs and raped them while unconscious. He thinks it's totally okay to do all that just because he works in a soup kitchen to "help people" so that makes him a better person. Brian may never see his son, but Glenn had 2 daughters in different episodes, and for both, he couldn't care and sacrifice his lifestyle, and let's not talk about all the other thousands of kids he probably has around the world that he produced all on purpose.

Quagmire is such a hypocrite, he's fathered at least nine children and probably many more but has the audacity to criticise Brian's parenting skills.
That does not take away from his point, however.
Quagmire let him off easy
Quagmire already said he is awful to but he is honest about it, he's trying to prove a point, that is brian is no better than him and not quagmire is better than brian.
And we know Quagmire has gone from being a pervert to having fleshed Relationships
he has hit on Lois too and he is a bitch himself
Asking "how come you don't like me?" is already an indicator as to why the person doesn't like you
Yeah. Saying “how can you not like me” is like saying “you have no right to dislike me, how can you possibly defend your crime,” in a seemingly nicer form. Now, “why do you not like me” is a genuine question. And many of the things Quagmire said was proved in that one statement; Brian’s narcissism.
But what if a hot chick asked that to you?
@@skxlter5747 the definition of what hot means to me or to you are different
And if she was generally hot (aka the standard of beauty or whatever) and she acted like Brian I wouldn't like her either
Despite what modern internet people may tell you, personality matters.
I mean Brian was trying to be a good person to Quagmire this scene so his question is genuine at this moment. He's not saying Quagmire HAS to like him.
