Just heard Rick Beato's top 40 best "sounding" albums. Rated for the quality of the overall sound and production. This was #1

Hands down the most romantic and perfect jazz album of all time. Johnny Hartman's soulful, deep, and tender voice along with John Coltrane's sultry saxophone, and the light piano in the background. My god, it's perfection.

As a young NYU student I was mesmerized the talent of Coltrane. He really knew how to play his part with emotion. The pairing of Coltrane and Hartman is iconic.

Recorded 07 March 1963 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs,NJ. Coltrane, Hartman, McCoy Tyner-piano, Jimmy Garrison-bass, Elvin Jones-drums. Coltrane was keen to record with Hartman, his favorite jazz vocalist, and producer Bob Thiele made it happen. Coltrane as a leader recorded with no other vocalist.

I'm a white guy now nearing 70, but in my long hair mid 40s, I was singing and whistling this beautiful song over the loud machinery in work while I worked by myself.
