Thank you for posting, these videos. I was thirteen years old, at the time. Our family spent the whole of that summer, in Malaysia. So, I missed the entire season of this Ashes series and WSC. Only got the occasional news paper article. You have helped, in making my life complete.
It would be interesting to know how many more runs batsmen of this era would have scored if outfields had been to modern standards. A lot of these 2s and 3s would have gone for 4 nowadays.
If, today, Boycott had edged Hurst to slip and been given out by the umpire at the bowler's end his immediate appeal against dismissal would have been vindicated by instant replay technology and the umpire would have been instructed by the third umpire to reverse his decision. I don't doubt that the slip fielder thought he had taken the catch cleanly, but the footage doesn't with certainty prove that to be the case. Boycott (who was always personally aggrieved by any dismissal, he liked batting so much) was right to feel hard done by on this occasion!
Kevin Wright was unfortunate to be understudy wicket keeper to Rod Marsh in Western Australia. I always remember being impressed by Wright playing for W.A in Shield matches when Marsh was on Australian duties.

Damn, Brearley was just an awful batsman to watch, no shots, no authority in his strokeplay, just lunging forward with a big stride & dropping the bat on the ball.

Rodney Hogg was the only 1 that stopped this series from bring a complete rout for Australia
Alan Hurst had a beautiful action.

He performed poorly here, and killed himself not long after.
It was career suicide.
And actual suicide.

@@nyosito I will, little dudes.
I will inform the cricket community of my hard-won Wisden.
"Boycott was in a minority of 1".
But that minority was right. That ball did not carry.
They were an awesome side in 2005 when they lost.

GEOFFREY BOYCOTT SHOULD BEEN GIVEN BENEFITS OF DOUBT, AS CATCH APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN ON FIRST BOUNCE.
Alan Hurst was not a bad fast bowler it's a pity he didn't play many more test matches for Australia
He was excellent & very quick. But he was injured a fair bit & he put his career as a teacher ahead of cricket. Dreadful batsman though.
A good England team. But a good Australian team will always beat a good England side.
