The Virtual University of Pakistan celebrated the 2nd phase of its 13th Convocation today at M.A. Jinnah Campus, Defence Road, Off Raiwind Road Lahore. Mr. Tajdar Alam (T.I.), Former Managing Director of VUTV, attended the event as the chief guest, and Prof. Dr. Masroor Elahi Baber, Former Vice-Chancellor of Agricultural University D. I. Khan and Gomel University, attended as the Guest of Honor.
During the 13th convocation, Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (S.I., T.I.), the esteemed Rector of Virtual University, shared profound insights into the institution's pivotal role in national development. Emphasizing the university's dedication to fostering education in underdeveloped areas, particularly in Baluchistan, he underscored their commitment to providing educational opportunities where they are needed most in Pakistan.
Notably, Dr. Bhatti announced the recent international accolades Virtual University has earned, such as the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). Additionally, he highlighted the university's remarkable achievement of securing a position in the Top 5% of Cisco Premier Partners.
During Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 semesters, a total of 22,762 students became eligible for the award of Associate Degrees, B.Ed., Bachelor (2-year), BS (4-year), Masters, and MS degrees, out of which 4,977 degrees will be conferred here at LAHORE. A total of 110 Gold Medals and 277 Merit Certificates will be awarded to the distinction holders of the 13th Convocation, out of which, 33 Gold Medals and 62 Merit Certificates are being distributed here at Lahore.
Dr. Tajdar Alam enthusiastically discussed the success of the Virtual University, highlighting its humble beginnings in a single room and its remarkable expansion to over 200 campuses nationwide, catering to a student body exceeding 130,000. Commending the students, he emphasized their admirable choice of Virtual University (VU) for education, noting the institution's superiority in IT knowledge and self-learning capabilities compared to traditional universities. Dr. Alam also expressed admiration for the relentless efforts of Rector Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti in transforming VU into one of Pakistan's premier ICT-based universities.
