The comments, 'found it, lost it' had me snickering for a good 30s. The stream of anecdotes, humour and ocd was all spot on - because its so identifiable. The bracket thats so sharp it can cut you from a distance for example, was hilarious. I almost spat out my morning coffee as a result 😏
That's the witness-property copper-anti-seize producers build/mix into their stuff. Was it only where it is supposed to be, nobody would know You used some of it, at all.
Great progress. The handbook for my 1929 Singer actually specifies the interval at which the leaf springs should be removed, dismantled and regreased. Greasing the springs is absolutely the correct approach.
The argument used against the greasing of Land Rover leaf springs is that the ingress of crud, sand and grit into the grease between the leaves turns it into a grinding paste and accelerates the wear. I do grease my springs as my Landy doesn't see a lot of heavy off road use.
@@Stu_2112 I grease mine too - I've not seen any Land Rover leaf springs abraded away to nothing by a greasy grinding paste but I have seen a lot of them corroded into a solid lump with splayed leaves caused by rust expansion. Spring steel is pretty hard and unlikely to wear significantly. Regularly hosing the crud off the underside will make everything last longer anyway.
This is definitely the best New Zealand-based Series III Land Rover restoration channel on TH-cam, and I don’t care what anyone else says! Keep up the awesome work mate, glad you could spare the time away from all the sheep.
I loved the 70/80's electronica - it was like watching a land rover version of Risky Business. Especially when that spring let go. Can you still have children?
When you're finished, bring it down south and we'll go on a real adventure into the mountains. (If you like your paint I suggest wrapping it in bubble wrap before we go) 🤣🤣 Love your work mate
Nice to see you posting again!!! Rear axle spring locating hole is too big because someone got lazy .. drilled the hole out to accept the nut on a set of springs that had the retaining pin upside down. The Land Rover is looking good! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I’ve been watching this project since part 1, and have been addicted since. I even have rewatched previous videos just to get my fix, while I wait for the new ones. Seriously great stuff!
I'm not kidding Geoff, my whole chassis rebuild has stalled waiting for you to show me how to do it properly! Thanks for all the detail on the U shackles...
I’ve never really been a fan of Land Rovers but subscribe to both your channels and thoroughly enjoy your content and workmanship.. Keep it up Mr Crocker 👍👍
nice to see progress, entertaining as always! Those spring locating pins are always loose.. Land Rover tollerances, it don't make an iota of difference to the drive... :)
Geoffrey thanks for your another great video. I think that's the worlds most accurate Land Rover restauration that some one has started. Thanks for sharing the wins and losts with us.
Nice wheels! Well, loads of nicer things that I need to thank you about as I tackle a leaf spring job, but that will have to wait; you’ve given me loads of things there to check and get correct! You and BOM (Binky) on the same day. Is this a conspiracy of fun? Anyway, great content. Thanks for bringing everyone along with your journey and explaining all as you do. Cheers!
It's a lovely feeling on any project when you flick the racket over from loosen to tighten and start putting things back. It's looking too good to drive!
Looking good... your gearbox rebuilds were a life saver when I did mine over lockdown... I can empathise with the fly away nut.. I'm still looking for clutch slave cylinder bits that went pop when my son was playing in the cab and stamped on the pedal... pop....
Just stumbled across this series and binge watched to get to this episode. Love the Series 3 and love the humour in the episodes, also great to see someone else from the bottom side of the planet making TH-cam content on these amazing British icons. When I finish my 2 MK1 Minis a Series 2 resto will be next.
Discovered your channel yesterday and binged through all of the rover series already, what a journey. Really appreciate your humor and editing, had me crack up a bunch of times!
Good work and chuckles 😂. Replaced my leafs and shocks recently, went parabolic. On my Series 3 88” petrol I noticed between the rear forward leaf bolt there was virtually no room between the nut and the petrol tank. If you’ve fitted longer bolts you may need to trim.
The enjoyable part begins right! There is a guy in Auckland I found that's a guru with interiors and seriously reasonable when you get to the interior. He works from home and does beautiful work.
Lesson for me is don't change the springs. Lol. The 2.6l does not have the bracket under the engine mount. Great to see it coming together. Might be the best on the road with the level of detail you are applying.
Great to have you back! The only problem with watching your videos is that it makes me feel bad about the quality of my SIIA restoration. Now need to go back and do a better job of my axles!
When fitting bushes try and press against the outer shell rather than the inner tube. A good tool to make is a screw press using the threaded shaft from a car scissor jack
It’s a bit concerning that you have no one to help you. But I’ll ignore it…that may be your plan. Excellent video as always. One of the best on TH-cam for content and production quality.
I think this restoration is a little like painting the fourth bridge. By the time the last bolt is done you will need to go back to the first bolt and start again!😂

I wasn’t joking. I’m sure I hardly touched but my hands felt like they’d been dragged through a rose bush 🤣
same. Lost it at “lost it” 😂
We've all been there LOL
Don't you love how that copper anti seize gets smeared on every surface, even the ones you didn't touch? Nice to see the Landy coming back to life.
I got some on my shirt from just watching this video
Mechanics mascara ;)
No amount of rags can contain it.
@@CROKERvsRover Quickly learned to smother everything in Copper Ease.

Geoff you are one talented TH-camr storyteller and I love your work 😊
Great work Geoff.
"Oh this is perfect"
I enjoy seeing the way you do things, and your attention to doing things the right way. But your of humour is as enjoyable.
I've been waiting a while for this next installment... and what a video! Glad to see you are still alive Geoff.
Still flapping around

I challenge the other NZ series 3 restoration channels to a duel 🤺
@@CROKERvsRover Its great to see more of your content. Yours is easily my favourite channel on TH-cam. Always funny, informative and beautifully shot.
Found this in my old mechanic school book about leaf springs : "always lubricate every spring with suitable grease at reassembly" 🥳
God I’ve missed your videos. So glad you’re back at it. 🙏🏼
Great to see the old girl coming back together 🍻
I loved the 70/80's electronica - it was like watching a land rover version of Risky Business.

Congratulations on getting a small amount of space back in the workshop! The landy is probably down to "only" taking up 3 parking spaces 😁
Imagine all the knife videos you can make from the old leaf springs!🍺
Just what was required on Saturday night.
Passion.
Excitement.
Some laughter.
And a whole lotta gettin’ it done.
