Don’t know what I’d do without this channel! Between a glut tendon tear and a hamstring tendon tear, you guys had me covered. Tendinopathy sucks, and can take months to heal since tendons have virtually no blood flow. Consistent, diligent PT is the ticket. Thank you for your channel, you guys make an impact.

    • @gogoogaga8136

Tirriana Johnson I did a jump split for my drill team back in August of 2017 and only rested for a week since it didn’t hurt to dance. I went back to high kicks after that and it would hurt every time I stretched my leg out (or tried doing splits). Because I didn’t rest for at least 5 weeks, I would constantly have that sharp pain while dancing so I did Physical Therapy for 3 months and it helped a bit but my flexibility wasn’t as good as it was before and as of now i still get a sharp pain in my lower buttock and hamstring especially when I’ve been sitting for a long time. As much as you want to keep dancing, PLEASE go to the doctor and rest for the amount of weeks that they tell you to. Trust me, it’s better to stay out of dancing for a couple of weeks rather than making the injury worse by not resting your leg.Good luck!

I wish I would’ve just searched for a Bob and Brad solution to my hamstring pull(or it might be a small tear?). I’m old school and tried the “just walk it off” and “no pain, no gain” approaches and immediately started doing gentle stretches into where it was most painful, but it’s still weak and it still spasms when I’m walking and it contracts in a certain spot.
It’s only been about 2 days since I fell and pulled it, so hopefully I can correct my course with these tips. I’ve already tried the massage technique and that helps a lot. Thanks Bob and Brad 😊

I've had my hamstring issue for over a year now, and I've been in physio for 5 months and it's still not better. It's frustrating because I do everything to not aggravate it, and I'm quite gentle to it, I make sure not to sit in awkward positions, or sit for too long, I don't sleep on the injured hamstring side anymore, I bought a new bed to alleviate pressure points on my hamstring, I bought a new car that doesn't hurt my hamstring to sit in, I don't run, I don't walk long distances, I do my hip bridges, I get needled, I get all the physiotherapy stuff and still nothing. I can't even go to the gym and exercise because you're limited to only upper body, and even then bending the wrong way could aggravate it. And I'm typing this while it's throbbing, going on 14 months.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but have you really tried to strengthen it? Start at a really low weight and with an exercise that doesnt hurt, and add weigth slowly. When I had a hamstring injury, I was too afraid to strengthen it. When I tried to increase the weights even with a little discomfort, but it didnt hurt, it got better after 1-2 months. Took me 7 months in total to heal. Didnt get any better when I was really careful and only rested.

I am 52, very active but do not exercise if that makes sense. It’s on my News Year priority list. Lol I was playing with my 3 yr old grandson today and I got spooked when he took off for the street, at a full blown sprint! He is a crazy baby to say the least. I sprinted after him out of fear and something tore or popped in my hamstring , up under buttocks. I have mild arthritis and hurt everyday. Those over 50 might know what I mean. Something creaks or aches most days😉 I’m pretty tough. I want to LIVE and not be chained to aches , so I push forward determined to put the pain in the background of my mind . I used to focus on it and it was consuming every thought and every choice . Dare say that made it worse. But I reclaimed my life and accepted the changes . But this was different. I knew instantly I was in trouble. I can barely walk and am laying down trying to cope. For me, that’s big. This is excruciating. I am going to ice it and rest the best I can. But what advice can you share that is a symptom that is of a more serious nature? Thank you both. I came back to you after you diagnosed a meniscus tear last year. I had surgery and doing great. Thank you.

Hi. I am a ballet dancer and haven’t danced nearly as much this summer as i do in the school year. a couple days ago, i went into my splits cold, without stretching. usually in the school year i would be able to do this no problem. my hamstring is very sore and tense and it seems like it lost all its flexibility for the time being. did i tear or strain my hamstring? how long till it gets better?

This helped quite a bit. Thank you. I also used a electric vibrator up and down the back of my thigh with my knee up to massage the hamstring and that also was very helpful.

I dance. I pulled my hamstring after I stretched. I was doing the splits and the sharp pain ran through my leg. I kept dancing for maybe another hour and a half. It really hurt at the time but then in the last hour and 15 min. It was fine. It started hurting after I had returned home. I have a dance competition in a week and a half. Do you think it will be okay to dance then? Do you think it will go away soon?

this applies to all of your output. this is an old man writing . god will bless you.i request some kind of sequential set of exercises for seniors the way yoga and other methods do . your explanations are lucid and so this request. in most cases a program is a smarter way than just a pain specific collection , kind of prophylactic

Great video! I was sitting in my chair one day and did a full extension stretch when I heard this pop behind the knee. I'm thinking it was part of the tendon or lower part of the hamstring. Now two weeks later I'm looking to rehab it. I feel some knots behind the knee, I wonder if that could be scar tissue that has already formed. thanks

3 weeks ago, ice under my doormat caused it to shoot out from under me, and I landed HARD on my butt, hearing a loud POP as I landed. Extreme pain - passing out.
ER X-rays revealed no broken bones... and nothing else. Finally got an MRI yesterday... completely tore my hamstring off at the top.
The first 10 days, I could only lie in bed and get up and walk every few hours to avoid blood clots.
Could finally sit for a full minute after a week and a half.
The huge black bruise that covered the back of my thigh is gone, but the area burns with pain when I sit... which is a bummer, because I'm a secretary. I can only sit for short periods of time.
When I walk, the back of my leg feels "wobbly", like that muscle is flopping around in there.
Sometimes, when I step forward with that leg, it's like I have no resistance from the back of the leg, so my foot flies too far forward, and I almost lose my balance.
The Orthopedic Surgeon says my muscle has separated about 3 cm from the tendon, and the injury is right next to the Sciatic Nerve. Scar tissue has already begun to form in the area. Surgery would be very dangerous - a nick on the nerve, and I could become disabled even worse.
So, here I am, very frustrated. I'm the only secretary at the dealership where I work, and the work is piling up... I go to work, driving with my left foot doing the gas and the brake, because it hurts too much to use my right foot. But I can sit very little... I have a mat to throw on the floor behind the desk and lie down, taking the phone and a notepad with me. I'm exhausted.
What kind of recovery period am I looking at? What's the best way to rehabilitate my leg?

Hello @@hawks7775 since I've posted the comment, about a month ago, I've been practicing only the foam roller technique everyday for 5 to 10 minutes after my Yoga practice when I know my body is warm enough , I 've been doing it actually every day except of weekends, and in my surprise it's doing way much better, I m so happy about it and very grateful, I ' ve noticed much more flexibility during my yoga practice, I m thrilled, it is still in pain though but it is a lighter kind of pain. I m not sure if my hamstring will be ever able to heal completely at all, but really I encourage you to keep on practicing, I hope you ll feel better soon , please keep me updated and I will too so you know if I ll have any progress.

@@MusicAndOtherColorsyes, I've been using a roller too and the massaging of my whole hamstring with my fingers and massage bar is really effective too..I'm 43 and have compiled a lot of abuse on to my hammys and can tell i needed to break up the fibers...I'm already able stand up and get out of my car without immediate hamstring irritation ..still a work in progress to strengthen them, baby steps is key ..and I plan on doing yoga again..just don't want to over stretch tho

So you do the opposite with the foam roller? I mean, fase two is across the fibers massage and foam along the fibers?

Hi, I have detached my semitendinosus up to 8cm with some bone a year ago. Had a MRI to confirm about 3 weeks ago. I think it's too late for surgery? I can now run for half hour and box and Thai box with no pain. Going to the orthopedic dept in a few weeks. Would it be worth trying for surgery? What would long term problems be with a permanent semitendinosus detachment?

After injuring the pain had fully dissipated after only two days of rest. No bruising or swelling so i thought i'd give the cross-friction massage a try but since trying it once i have had continuous aching in the hamstring for 5 days now. So to Bob and Brad, maybe you can give some indication of timeframe for these steps with all your experience as physicians? And for others who are becoming painfree, maybe give it some more time before the massaging. I probably have irritated the injury again and prolonged the healing process.
