King Hussein of Jordan has officially allowed an Iraqi group dedicated to overthrowing Iraq's opposed to Saddam Hussein, to operate openly in the Jordanian capital Amman.
Its the first time official Jordanian backing has been given to Iraqi exiles there.
The group - the Iraqi National Accord publicly opened its Amman offices, Sunday February 18th
The group has proclaimed the launch as a "new dawn" for their long-suffering homeland.
The Wifaq Al-Watani Al-Iraqi (The Iraqi National Accord) launched its headquarters in Amman Sunday with the permission of the Jordanian monarch.
The group says its Amman office will be directly linked to its permanent headquarters in Iraq's northern Kurdish city of Erbil.
    SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"We applied to open headquarters and not an office in Amman, and we would like to tell you that we have many other offices in the world."
SUPER CAPTION: Eyad Allawi, Secretary General of Iraqi National Accord
The group denies it's receiving funding from Jordan.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Definitely we are not getting any material or financial support from anybody in the region in any official capacity. We have however and we are grateful to all the countries who have given us permission to operate from the country, after all wherever we are don't forget we still are refugees and we operate from whichever country we're in with the permission of that country and we try our best not to misuse the hospitality provided to us."
SUPER CAPTION: Salah Sheikly, spokesman for the Iraqi National Accord
King Hussein's permission reinforces his commitment to political change in Baghdad. It will also help restore Jordan's international links after it was isolated in 1990 following its perceived support of Iraq .
    SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"We met with King Hussein and exchanged all points of view on the Iraqi situation and the Iraqi tragedy."
SUPER CAPTION: Eyad Allawi, Secretary General of Iraqi National Accord
Eyad Allawi says it wants to rally more support for its cause.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Our role here also will be political and what we mean by political is really try to lobby through Jordan our Arab brothers, our Jordanian brothers and the people at large for our just cause."
SUPER CAPTION: Eyad Allawi, Secretary General of Iraqi National Accord
The group denied it had links with Saddam's former confidant Lt. Gen.
Hussein Kamel Al-Majid, who defected and was granted asylum by Jordan.
    SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"Hussein Kamel has his own agenda and style and thoughts, and I don't think that they match the program of the Wifaq. Then we don't have any contacts with Hussein Kamel."
SUPER CAPTION: Salah Sheikly, spokesman for the Iraqi National Accord
The group says it will fight on until it achieves an Iraq free of tyranny and oppression.

Many theories exist that range from Jordan's need to get closer to Gulf countries, to mandates of Jordan-Israeli peace treaty, to Jordan wanting to pressure more cheaper oil from Saddam, even to Jordan seeing Saddam's end and wanting to take a role in a post Saddam era. I think its all of them taking place in a post Soviet wold where no country had a choice outside of globalism and its dictations. But what do I know I am just a youtube comment :D

I am from Jordan and don't believe this, King Hussein and Jordan supported Iraq in the gulf war and he kept telling President Saddam (secretly) that the gulf war was a game made up by Israel, Usa and Kuwait to end Saddam's presidency of Iraq because we all know how Saddam was pro Palestine and he hated Zionists Israel, this was a tactic played by Kuwait and Usa when usa asked Kuwait to make the oil cheaper in 1989 to weaken Iraq's economy and turn against Saddam so that he could enter Kuwait.
