Going into lobbies that will just have griefers blowing you up 24/7 is so much better. Not being able to drive your vehicle for more than 30 seconds is the superior way of playing. From my experience gta rp is fun once you understand the basic rules like picking on another player, running them over for no reason and talking with a player on discord despite them not being in game I tried grand rp for the experience then went ahead and tried fivem it was hard coming up with a backstory for my character in the application or explaining to them why I wanna join the rp server that I'm interested in but after learning everything it became very fun

These are typically ran by a small group of people, or even a huge group of people, who have very minimum rules. Things like not using slurs or something. Popular on Economy based servers. Then you have your "semi-realistic" servers. The servers are primarily based around roleplay and most of their rules reflect roleplay but want their Community members to have a good time as well. Then you have hardcore realistic servers, these servers are primarily 100% realistic or at least they strive to be. The rules include things like price limits on vehicles, character backstories as a requirement

I’d look extensively at different servers rules. They usually share the same rules and it can teach you a bit about roleplaying. Most ragemp servers even have good guides on how to role play in general like Eclipse RP which I started out on. Would definitely recommend

I look up like dwarf lore, Viking, shaman or medieval lore or legends. I like to find a real personality and then alter it with some of my own creativity. I can borrow some of the backstory from that actual character or I can add my own.

The main thing that annoys me about Grand Theft Auto roleplay on a broader scale, it's not the fact that it exists it's the fact that it's done wrong. If you're playing as a cop character, and you are missing your shots for the sake of roleplay, for example to extend a gun battle. Or you're involved in an accident or a minor mistake, you would get pulled into an office and spoken with about it. A lot of servers which claim to support roleplay failed understand that nobody is perfect. Law enforcement can and will eventually make mistakes. Getting the wrong suspect or something minor, for example when it comes to speeding or a vehicle collision, players should never be pulled out of role play and given a strike for trying to do a roleplay scene for an accident or something. When I was with San Andreas highway patrol in a previous community, I was on a motorcycle on patrol and I "ran over loose nails" (Crashed) I then hit my panic button and the character did not respond over the radio, 3 minutes later dispatch was giving a location of my last known, and they eventually treated the character and transported them to hospital. I was then pulled aside by my road sergeant and I was told off for misuse of a panic button or emergency button, as well as at fault in a motor vehicle collision. I ended up getting demoted from officer first class to probationary officer. Meaning I was forced to resign from any subdivision and I was no longer permitted to Patrol on my own. It was intended to humiliate me within the community, and it did. So I resigned from the community and moved on to another one.

i've been doing written roleplay for ten years, but have decided to expand my horizons and do gta rp. it's on ps4, though, so i have to make a discord server and run it through there and it's extremely limited because of the console hardware. this was super helpful, though, thanks !!

This aint nothing new, players have been using gta as a roleplay platform since 2005 with San Andreas Multiplayer mod and Mult Theft Auto. Arma 3 has similar communities too
You’ve injected yourself into a role play scene, it’s unscripted , spontaneous role play that has no set rules or limitations? What limit is there? They got mad so easily but I guess kids will act like kids huh? It not only adds to the fun but also adds to the immersion of the role play. They clearly just were doing their own thing and felt you took it in a direction that was too goofy, however I think it’s funnier and adds to the overall experience of making these things more interesting, however I don’t role play but if I did , it wouldn’t be with people or a server like this.

You will still be able to play gta online how you normally launch it :) it’s a full separate client that you download. Hope this helps!
