Hey Mitch, in protools i think it's good to name track before recording, so the recorded wav file will be named coresponding to it, for example "kick_01" for track called "kick". If you rename them after it will stull be "audio_01" for track called "kick". At last at Pro Tools 9 & 10. Cool vid by the way!
Just a quick note, it IS good to create a Submix channel even if the instrument is in only one track, say the bass for instance, because that way user of non HD rigs can easily audition whats been sent to the FX tracks, when you don;t have Input monitoring like Pro Tools HD, if you send the bass for a Verb for instance, you don't get to listen only the bass being sent, you just get to listen with the dry signal.
Also easy when using Studio One, cause you can disable individual tracks and only see buses, so as to tweak final mix, instead of moving buses close to the main output, as Mitch explained.
Great video - I am curious why you created the VCA track for the drums though, since you already have a drum buss to control their relative levels? You are excellent at what you do Mitch!
Making subgroups in Ableton Live: select the tracks and press command+G. You can also do it manually, using the same workflow as in protools, if you like to develop RSI. I can't stand the really good recording DAW's still haven't addressed this 'problem'.

Then you can bring it into the mix together with your normally compressed drum bus. It adds considerable punch from the over-compressed squashed channel while preserving the dynamic on the carefully compressed drum bus

Yeah , enjoyed the video as well. I never thought about settin up a high pass filter in a BUSS. I usually just notch the offending feq on the track itself. BUT, Im findin out today that this BUSSIN thang works better!. I didnt think my piano track was being muddied up by 39HZ (really? LOL ) but it was!!!.Woulda never thought to notch the piano this low by itself. Now the bass and piano are playin nice together...What low rumble feq do you Guys find offensive most of the time?
I know the information in this video is gold, but the fact of the matter is that I don't care about how to efficiently mix down a song. For me, mixdown is the most fun of all of the steps in the recording process, so I can just spend days just tinkering. I guess it matters whether you're trying to make a living at it, or not.

whoiscrying123 the buss would turn up/down of the whole kit at once while the tracks routed to it would stay the same. The VCA would keep the tracks relative to each other, they’d actually go up and down as you control the VCA fader. Try it and you’ll see the difference. VCAs work well once you have a great balance or volume automation on a buss.
This is probably a dumb question, but I noticed that when he sends something to a bus it's already at unity volume on the send. My sends always default to the volume fader being all the way down, how do I get my PT to do that?
That is a CME Xkey USB controller. It's designed for portable use with laptops or iPads, but I find it makes a great keyboard for my studio desk that doesn't take up much space.

Bringing the mix down to zero is totally opposite of best practice. Soloing to find names, fine, but why bring everything down to zero if you don't listen to the song? I would start with the song first, adjust any any loud elements accordingly and mix from there. Will save so much time over bringing each fader up individually to build a mix. My 2c.

Using a DAW is the most complicated bullshit Ive ever seen.. I can do in one second with my fingers what you can do in 5 seconds with a mouse. The greatest albums in music history were all recorded on 64 track consoles and reel to reel decks. I'm going to get a 32 track internal HD recorder/mixer.. Either a Tascam or the Presonus. I'll use the USB and hook it up to a 32" flat screen just to look at the pretty colors
