Thank you for posting all these in-depth videos you've posted on vibraphone assessment, repairs, and weaknesses. I'm a newbie mallet player looking to "upgrade" to a pro vibraphone and considering which instrument to purchase. Although I am a musical novice, I have years of experience in mechanical design and repair, and really value the details you highlight in these fascinating instruments. THANK YOU!

I have a big request, please pay attention. My M55 has the left side of the damper slightly higher than the right side. And for the last few notes the damper does not muffle. How can I level the damper?I will be very grateful for your help.

@@johnnyxopos2211depending on how far it is out, you may need to take the damper bar and using an engineers square as a reference bend the arms to make them equal. However, I do this at the end, after I have corrected the rest of the setup.

@@orchperc Actually, in the original, the left lever (or limiter) of the damper is slightly higher than the lever of the right side of the damper, right? There was a time when the instrument played normally, but after the felt was replaced with a new one, the damper became so uneven. Perhaps the damper was completely removed from its place, and the position of the spring changed

@@johnnyxopos2211 yes the height of the fulcrums vary, but the setup is also variable, however you do need to start somewhere. I start at the beginning and correct every defect on the instrument bed, finishing at the damper bar adjusting both bends until the bar moves uniformly and contacts both banks of notes simultaneously. However I don't know how far out your bar is, or whether the fulcrum on the left has even been fit at the correct height. If you now say that you've made changes to the instrument and now you don't have consistent damping, then start by looking at the changed parts, but moving those fulcrums so they are perfect is much harder than simply bending the levers.

@@johnnyxopos2211 people change the damper felt to improve damping because that is the answer they get from forums. I have repaired hundreds of instruments with damping mechanisms and in my experience the cause of damping problems is invariably in the instrument setup. Unless the felt has been deformed by a poor setup, I mainly change damper felt for musical reasons not to accommodate discrepancies in the instrument.

@@orchperc Felt is missing 3-4 mm to the last notes. I did not change the support points of the levers(demper arm). EVERYTHING IS AS IN THE ORIGINAL.I don't want to hit the saddle post and the hook post so that they go down low. Before me, only the damper and felt were touched. Shouldn't I pay special attention to the spring? Could the position of the spring be the cause of this unevenness?
