    you doing such a great Job...max respec! going to watch every Video from you...big up bro ...still have a question fi u in your opinion: which of the 2 drum sets you would prefer for using it in a Reggae Production? DrumDrops - 1970s Rogers Dub Kit or Abbey Road 70s Drummer Library ? and question #2: in your opinion: which of the 2 vst drum plugins you would consider as the better one for using it for Reggae Productions? XLN Audio Addictive Drums or Toontrack EZDrummer 2?

    • @DMKahn

      I contemplated all of the kits you listed above but ended up sampling my own drums. I sell the pack for $50, let me know if you’re interested. Otherwise, I’d probably go with the drum drops.

    What you're demonstrating is a rim CLICK (or side stick) sound. Rim SHOT is hitting the batter head with the tip of the stick and the rim (or hoop) with the middle part of the stick, at the same time. Using the right terminology is important.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re right. It’s a side stick not a rim shot. Oh well, the technique is shown.

    It’s a shame there isn’t a non electric separate block of wood or something to replicate the sound. Some sort of cowbell type thing that sounds like a reggae rim shot. I feel it would be less restrictive when playing

  • @ServantofJesus247
    @ServantofJesus247 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you do it on an electric drum

    • @DMKahn

    Sorry but you show a rim click or cross stick, not a rimshot. the rimshot is the sound is produced by simultaneously hitting the rim and head of a drum with a drum stick.

    Sorry but you're missing a very important part, jamaican drummer let the hand loose when the stick hits the head. It's almost like they're dropping the stick on the snare. Look at classic reggae videos and you'll see they open and close their hand a LOT, very hard to do.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did talk about the dampening of the head. That’s what they’re doing. Yes it’s hard. I’m only showing the snare in isolation, while the whole kit is played, the player hits toms and cymbals with the same stick of the snare, so they have to go back and forth. So I agree with you, but I also want to say I did show the important part, which is the dampening of the snare head with the palm and/or fingers. Cheers

  • @simian661
    @simian661 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a rim click

    • @simian661
      @simian661 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rimshot is where you hold the stick normally and hit the rim and skin up to 4 inches in. Rimclick and Rimshot are 2 very different reggae uses of a snare.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually a “side stick” … I had the name wrong but the info is still solid so I left it up.
