- I played 002 in Stranger Things 4, and the number one question I always get asked (After they ask me what it was like working with Millie Bobby Brown) is "How much did you get paid?"
Today, I want to officially and publicly pull back the curtain, and reveal all of the details behind being an actor in a huge show like Stranger Things.

I misspoke about L.O.U being Bella Ramsay’s first series regular. I recorded this video with a script and went a little off-script in that moment. I should’ve fact-checked myself before speaking on it in the video. Her having been a Series Regular in the Worst Witch is likely why she was paid above the $35k-$50k starting range.
One thing I’ll mention is GOT certainly may have helped. However, my first series regular offer was still $35k with Stranger Things on my resume. It’s mainly previous Series Regular experience that bumps that rate substantially.

edit: so everyone’s yelling at me in the replies saying “it’s not him it’s the character” yes, i know that. I know it means he’s doing a good job acting. My whole family are actors so I understand everything you guys are saying. And if some of you would read any of the replies, you wouldn’t have to repeat literally every other reply.
Well you know what they say. If the actor makes you have any type of feeling for them, they are doing a good job.

It can be hard to separate the actor from the character but omg you don't sound like your character at all. You seem so nice and quiet. Congrats to you!! 🎉
Thank you!!! Yes I try my best to still have myself be the root of it while letting the character add all the spice so it’s not just me being myself, but rather finding a middle ground between myself and the character. ☺️

I really appreciate the no clickbait, informative video. When I was growing up, information like this was pandora's box only - you had to already be working to learn this stuff. Because I spent much of my youth working in entertainment, I already knew what you got paid on the network show was going to be higher than streaming lol. It's not as cool to be on a CBS show as a hit streaming show, but it definitely pays better.
This is quite funny to me as I started watching stranger things worth my family. My dad kept saying 002 (you) has really good acting skills. Hope you have a great career dude!

Jesus Christ actors act so well that their real self is so much different from acting. Nice job on Stranger Things
The best breakdown of an actors pay I ever heard was from Bruce Campbell. In his book "If Chins Could Kill: Diaries of a B movie actor", he breaks down his pay for Army of Darkness which is the third movie in the Evil Dead franchise. He was paid $500,000 for the role. However, if you remove Tax, Agent fees, Manager fees, Union dues and payment to ex-wife (he got divorced while making the movie) that left him with $93,000. That seems like a lot until you realize he was involved with the project for 2 years and did not book anything else during that time. That means he made $46,500 a year for two years.
I definitely gotta go check that one out!! Yes since I’ve still not joined the union I’ve not had dues yet, but the big number that draws the attention is definitely never the number that actually gets taken home.
Adjusting for inflation, that $46,500 was about $107,000 in 1991 bucks (released in 92 but would have been filmed prior). That's better but not great.

Wow this is so interesting! I’ve wanted to become an actor for quite awhile but I have always been told that it doesn’t pay well so this is very cool to hear! You were great in Stranger Things and definitely made me hate your character lol, Keep up the good work!
It definitely pays extremely well once you get that booking. The one thing I will say is that it can be incredibly inconsistent. So of course what I made in three months from acting is life changing money. But when you consider it’s been two years since my last big big acting paycheck, it does take some time to make it a sustainable full-time career.

Bella Ramsey may have gotten paid more because this was not her first series. She has played characters in several series including Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones.
Very true! I knew about Game of Thrones but I think because she was mostly in UK productions I didn’t realize she had also been a series regular before! So yes, it makes a lot of sense she was paid above that starting $35k-$50k range.

Why the SAG strike was so important. Why there is so much more ground to cover to hold Streaming channels accountable and bring them up to network rates. Streaming channels are making massive profits and paying actors a fraction of their worth to the company.
