This is very interesting! There's a little cemetery down the street from me that has early settlers buried there. They built a shopping center around it and it's now part of the parking lot. We also have a popular park that used to be a cemetery and the bodies were relocated (not all of them unfortunately. Some are still there). Most people enjoying that park now have no idea what it was.
As many times as I've been in and through Tallahassee, I had never heard of that cemetery being there. I'm glad they left it instead of having it relocated. When remains are relocated, there are undoubtedly some left behind as it is fairly common to have unmarked and uncharted graves in the older cemeteries. Very interesting find!
In case you are not aware in maryland at baltimore washington international Airport there is Friendship Cemetery now located on land owned by the airport. The airport was originally called Frienship Airport. I understand that cemetery is still active but for funerals the airport authority must be contacted to get permission.
thats a black cemetery. the concrete slabs on the surface are typically the tops of vaults buried in a way where the cover of the vault is left exposed at surface level. In this cemetery, they look like concrete slabs added after the fact and not vault tops. the headstones as well look to have all been placed at the same time (the granite markers i mean). The depressions are sucken grave, the mound is a dirtpile. Even modern black cemeteries that are still in use become over grown and forgotten in sections as burial continue as they dont maintain their cemteries (church ownership exempts them from laws about perpetual care) so what often happens is they leave their cemteries to ruin, they are lost, they are found by a developer, news articles are written, and they are renovated and protected as a civil rights issue. This is all very general but I hope it clears up any questions. love your vids
Wonder if there was a church around there, at one time. Crazy how the airport just took it over & left that small space. It needs trees & benches. Just looks so unvisited. Cool explore.
Now your traveling my state here and yes, plenty of stuff to do and find. Sometimes, without warning, it finds you...YIKES! All the best to you sir in 2020. Cheers!
Here in Owls Head Maine (KRKD airport) the town built a cemetery at the end of the runway. Nice flat land that houses can't be built on. And it prevents the airport from expanding the runway in that direction. FAA provides a ton of money for airports and if they want your airport to lengthen a runway or something, they'll make it happen.
Love that the airport did not move the bodies, and they just built around the property of the cemetery. Also cool how you can see the cement slab where each persons buried instead of just grass then a gravemarker
In Lancaster, Ohio, Greenfield Township Cemetery is an active cemetery right next to the airport. However, the airport is a small municipal airport with no tower, and pretty much just private planes. Definitely not a major international airport! The cemetery at one time was filled with large trees and was decently shady, but the FAA at some point mandated all the trees be removed, even though the cemetery is not in the flight path. The 48-inch REX natural gas pipeline interestingly runs right under the eastern tip of the taxiway.
We have a grave site also located on the old major airport grounds (now Stinson Airport) south of town where I live. Unfortunately, it’s not accessible since it’s inside the airport gates.
Hi Chris, what a bizarre place to have a cemetery, I'm surprised at the owners of the airport that they would build the runway's etc right next to it. I hope you had a great Christmas, I would like to wish you and your family a fantastic new year. xx
The land was likely expropriated and based on the name of the church, probably a black area. The access was something that was probably an accommodation. It wouldn't surprise me to find this happened during or for WWII as an airbase and transitioned to what it is today.
2:38 say's at bottom of stone that Elliott Jr. put the stone up for his dad and it has on it "died here"....now im pondering...did he die at the gravesite

Yeah, watch out for those fire ants. Usually, you can see their mounds but for some reason, not all colonies will build a big hill. I grew up in Columbia, SC and there are plenty of fire ants down there. Throughout my childhood, I probably stood in a fire ant hill unknowingly 5-10 times. You'd think you'd know but you don't until it's to late. The ants actually crawl onto you and whenever the first one bites you, it releases a pheromone that signals to the other ants to "attack". You'd have 20-40 of them on your bare skin and then all of a sudden, you'd be bitten 10 times in just a couple of seconds. TL;DR: They don't play and they can be easily missed, especially in sandy soil. Keep your eyes open as you're walking around in these abandoned areas.
Reminds me of when I was first stationed in Florida. My Yankee experience did not prepare me for this so I was standing on the beach in Tampa Florida. I noticed several ants on my legs and didn't worry about them too much. I learned quick!
All cemeteries have mounds of dirt . All of the dirt won't fit back in the hole that was filled with a casket .

Welcome to Tally. I pass by this airport every day and I’ve always wondered. Thanks for sharing some of my hometown.

Happy New Year, Chris! May 2020 hold lots of great adventures for you! Thanks for all the places you’ve helped me experience.
Thanks for watching Kathy. Happy New Year!
Where I live there is an old cemetery in the middle of the freeway . Traffic roaring by both sides , no peace there either
416?
Come get me
The cemetery by Aloha Stadium in Hawaii?
Great job. I'm glad someone was thinking of the people there, and mowed the place.
No such thing as “Rest In Peace” in that cemetery ( as you say yelling over the sound of an aircraft flying overhead ) 😲🙉

At Savannah/Hilton Head International airport there are two graves on runway 10/28 and two more just off to the side.
Another respectful cemetery video. Well done brother!
"Much warmer than upnorth" - Indeed !
Super find! Great job!
Nicely done video, Chris, thanks!
As a member of the "official" Florida greeting committee, Welcome to Florida! :)
Thanks Michael
Love odd places like this. Great find.
that blue prop plane was spec ops and he didn't even know it. doing a good job keeping a low profile even though it's public what they fly.
Yup, C-146!
Time mark?

Well, when you buy your future gravesite at a big discount without actually seeing the location
Now your traveling my state here and yes, plenty of stuff to do and find. Sometimes, without warning, it finds you...YIKES! All the best to you sir in 2020. Cheers!
Haha very true statement. Happy New Year
@@MobileInstinct2 And the happiest of the new year to you as well.

Saw this, knew where you were by the thumbnail. Gonna watch it right now. I go by there all the time headed camping and fishing.
My family lives there, I will have to ask about this :) Thanks for sharing

Not the most peaceful resting place but very unique find Chris
Lol no need for peace....you're already dead.🤣

Have a great New Year man!
Very interesting.. Have a great day and week

So much for "Rest In Peace" !
The round ball on top of the tower across the field is the airport radar site.

Good video. My understanding is that there's a runway in Savannah that has people buried in the actual runway!
Thanks for the video.
There are 2 cemeteries outside of Atlanta hartsfield airport. One is a family cemetery off of ga hwy 139 before it intersects with Sullivan rd.
So much for rest in peace. 💜
People are dead . Can't hear a thing haha.
@@adriansims1596 but their souls still can
wow! well done.. happy new year!
It's for people that have fallen out of the airplane..it's not a very good airline 😲
@zzzombie888.
Thanks for the giggle, that was funny.
Amazing, I believe that in our airport there is a grave that has been there for years.
Saint Louis Mo has a sad story with a cemetery involved an airport.
There may have been a small church there.
as a planespotter. I say YES!

Holy cow that’s interesting!
Perhaps it once was, but I echo what someone says below: Not the most peaceful resting place. Unique and different to say the least.
Happy New Year....To You. See you in 2020.
Happy New Year
Cool. Makes it a little hard to rest in peace with the airplanes though
Should look into the crash that happened in Detroit. The. One where only ine girl lived through it. She was the only one that lived.
Those were red carpenter ants. Fire ants are more smaller but they’re be a lot more of them!
Thank you, love your videos. 🥇
If you get down to Key West there are many interesting sites to film there :)
Just left over dirt. @1:50.
So much for eternal peace for these people. Thanks for the video. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
How are they gonna build a damn airport around a grave that so damn disrespectful
If you wondering yes those are fire ants
Glad I kept my distance!
Welcome to Florida, where we don't participate in Winter!
Wow they must have poor security for you to get that close
ev dallas he said in the video that the access to the cemetery is public property
Think how many Indian mounds were just forgotten..
Weird I just saw this on Dec. 7th 2020
Nice video, hope you had some ear plugs.
Forget resting in peace!
Its left over dirt
I'm sure la conspiracy theorist will have a thing or two to say about the depressions and piles of dirt.
