    Beautiful video. Generally, how much longer will it be before all this gives away????

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd guess probably about 3 wks or so for this Ice bridge; sometimes, another ice bridge will form after the ice boom is taken down at the head off the Niagara River near Buffalo and all the remaining Lake Erie ice heads downstream

    • @stitch-xx2oo
      @stitch-xx2oo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RightInNiagara I am sorry. I guess what I was saying, how much longer before all of this ice thaws? sometime late March or Early April????

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This ice bridge will probably dissipate in about 3 wks. But another one could form again when the ice boom is removed near Buffalo.

    • @CoinandRelicOntario

      @@stitch-xx2oo Sometimes ice is still visible up until May. All depends on the weather. Alot of this ice that formed the bridge was due to the ice boom submerging during high winds the day before and ice from Lake Erie making it's way down river.

      @@CoinandRelicOntarioThanks for the input... I am coming back to Niagara someday. Just hope it is soon!!! I haven't been there since 1981 and then my family and I followed the QEW and the 401 and ended up at 1000 islands Canada.... Is the cable car that goes over the whirlpool still there???? Thanks!

    Amazing! If all of this ice jam breaks up at once and tumbles over the falls and forges up the river, I wonder how much of a "tidal wave" and sudden rise in water levels will occur in Lake Ontario due to the sudden freeing of the ice jam and rushing water levels behind the ice?

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seriously, let's not blow things out of proportion; this is a typical winter occurrence. The same ice is here at Niagara every winter; it comes, it goes. It will melt in the spring, as it usually does. There is no 'climate-change' fear mongering scenario at play here. There is no sudden tidal wave scenario. There are many variables, not the least of which are the wind and temperature, but also the ice boom's role in protecting the Niagara River from Lake Erie's ice, and, the International control dam's role in adjusting the water levels over the Falls and in the lower Niagara River.

    • @TurtleFrack
      @TurtleFrack 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All I know is that the IJC reported Lake Ontario's water level dropped 2 1/4 inches in just one day, the very day that you filmed this. They said all of the lowerings due to this event will be reciprocated once the ice frees itself. facebook.com/InternationalLakeOntarioStLawrenceRiverBoard/

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I note that they also wrote:
      "As shown, Niagara River flows and water levels increased substantially during the wind storm that also saw a significant ice run in the Niagara River, but conditions have since returned to where they were previously. Apologies for any confusion".
      Also, let''s not forget that there are also controls on the St Lawrence, which regulate the outflow and water levels of Lake Ontario! It's quite an interrelated system.
      To your point about the Ice Bridge, its melting process will not be sudden; it will take its time to dissipate. And, the Ice Bridge itself is a product of the ice which had been 'manufactured' in Lake Erie and shipped downriver to the Falls! It is Lake Erie's ice situation which largely dictates what drains into Lake Ontario.

    Where's the Maid of the Mist? Under a glacier?

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't worry, they are safe at the Maid's winter drydock facility which is located just north of the Rainbow Bridge (slightly downstream from their passenger dock) The winter storage facility was built in 2013 at the site of the former Schoellkopf power generating station (which had collapsed in 1956).
      See the Maid boats at their winter site in my video here (go to 10:14): th-cam.com/video/aJe-llZAnpA/w-d-xo.html

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I forgot: look at the photos around 12:36 in this video - the winter Maid dock and the boats can be seen in the distance. The green crane tower is what lifts the boats out of / into the water. Also, you can see that the passenger and the winter docks are not too far from each other.

    Volume of water going over the Falls is reduced in the winter.

    • @RightInNiagara
      @RightInNiagara  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, through planned diversion, to meet the requirements of the downstream power stations. And it is also reduced and moderated during the summer as well ....Your point?

    • @scottporter1108
      @scottporter1108 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      RightInNiagara Yup the Moses on USA side Sir Adam Beck on Canadian Side, plus the ice boom in Lake Erie prevents major ice buildups, even though part of it broke in that wind storm. Nothing really to see here, just a normal winter day.

      Ashvitha Elanchelian It is a great place Niagara Falls gets 8 million visitors a year. The Niagara River supplys electricity to the City of Buffalo. People with boats can not go with in 5 miles of the Falls for safety reasons. The Niagara River is dangerous the water flows at 20mph. If you want to go on Canadaian side you need to exchange American $ for Canadaian $. Theres so much traffic Niagara Falls has 3 Bridges. Niagara Falls & Buffalo are considered Border Citys because of Canada. In 50s they did a movie with Marylin Monroe called Niagara Falls. Aside from our cold winters we do have a lot of 90 degree days in summer. In case you don't know Buffalo is ranked #1 City for most snow. Its true we still get 10-12 feet every winter from Lake Erie. 1 other thing I like Buffalo has a hugh IRISH POPULATION here. Always WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO

      Nope, this is not extreme weather. Peddle your crap elsewhere. The Niagara River has frozen in the winter for thousands of years. This is extreme to someone who's ignorant or is peddling politics.
