Oh my god can you imagine the shenanigans of pitting the Kshatriya and its fleet of PPC drones against your standard IS lance? Or hell, even a clan Star?
Don't see much use for them in BT, only ones that fit are Macross and plenty of STL sculpts of old Unseen mechs out there. Besides no one wants to field valks / LAM's because they kinda suck.
I suspect the origins of this come from the realization that a great deal of overlap is occurring between miniature gamers and Gunpla enthusiasts. Bandai (Mr. Krabs voice) “Money!”
There is a fan made gundam table top game. The problem is that the gundam kits are funny sizes to use on a table top game. Similar to the old inquisitor scale game at the smallest scale at 1/144. Now if they can bring the customisation of the gunpla with a decent scale game it could be awesome.
random guesses at varying levels of probability: - d6s for resolving shots/attacks, d10 being used as a damage counter? - why not both systems in one - they're flying suits that move freely between ground/air/space, within a single game you have your scenic ground board AND your hex board for slightly more abstracted air/space combat.. - there will eventually be a collab video in which TMS and rogue hobbies play the game scaled up to full size Gunpla models...
It's such a weird phenomena. I've been into Gundam for a long time. Never even a little into WH40K. A while back I see a vid of a WH40K fan trying out Gunpla. It was a neat novelty. Then recently it's been all over my feed. To me it's neat because I like seeing new people get into a hobby I've enjoyed for a long time and bring a different perspective, but now with this announcement I can't help but feel it's a bit...manufactured? I don't doubt there's already been cross pollination between the hobbyists, but to me, miniatures is basically the exact opposite of what I like about Gunpla. I hate painting. The satisfying aspect of Gunpla for me is the build process, seeing what engineering goes into these kits, and having a good display piece right off the bat, with any extra effort just making it better. So I don't really see myself getting into Assemble. The card game looks dope, though.
As a professional miniature painter, my reasons for loving Gunpla are exactly the same as yours! It'll certainly be interesting to see how this develops, and enriches both hobbies. I'm excited for it!
@TesseractMinis I think it will definitely appeal to a lot of people, and I predict it selling out immediately. I look forward to seeing other people's paint jobs and dioramas.
@@Amuro1X I would say there is a lot of cross pollination. Bandai and GW are actually partners (since 2019 I believe). Assemble seems to be geared directly to me somehow as someone who grew up on gundam but moved to GW since there is a game with it.
Totally into it! The idea of having Gundam models to paint is enough of a magnet, and the models look of excellent quality to boot. We will see how fun the game is when it releases and I'm eager to know more
Look dont get me wrong i hope the miniatures are her to stay. But a consolation prize i would be just as happy with is if Bandai decide to discontinue, they stillpump out rules and people just use HG kits on hex action bases. Hell that would incentivise buying ships at hg size
Funny thing, Gundam has always been in the miniature wargaming scene just in an unofficial capacity. There are some homebrew games and some that have worldwide communities like Mobile Suit Gundam Skirmish using the 1/144 models. Likely we can expect players to co-opt the Gundam Assemble rules and move them to the 1/144 scene since Bandai does release hexagonal bases for their models.
Bandai has made two previous versions of a hex based table top game, one was a big box of similar sized unpainted minis and the other was a very small and used little Gundam minis that remind me of Jumanji pieces
The initial models are confirmed to come in a "Deluxe" version of the card game's 4 starter decks releasing on July 11th where they can be built and painted to sit on top of token cards as extra swag. There are 3 models in each starter deck that match the tokens/units in that deck.
I'm very exited but cautious about this. A few concerns are but not limited to the following: Pricing, will it be a gotchapon style of distribution or will we be able to buy the suites we want, how will Bandai handle scalpers and the secondary market for the "best" suites increase in price dramatically because of it, Gameplay, will it be a bare bones style or more in depth strategic style of gameplay like in battletech with the older rule set, what will the model/models come with for the price that Bandai is asking, And many more. No doubt most will be answered later on with more announcements, Their starter set has to start off swigging in order for people see that's it's actually worth the price Bandai is asking compared to other table topo miniatures . Time shall tell. I've spent A LOT of money on getting 3-d printed miniatures for my home made Gundam tabletop game before the 3-d printing company went out of business last year I think. (Shapeways) Curious to see how this stacks up to mine and others home brewed games!
My brother is the Gundam fan, but we wre both mecha fans. I've seen some fan made games designed for the HG models. Im interested to see if the new official game will be closer to a board game with minis or a more complex full on miniatures game. I have 8-10mm terrain for Bot War and I wonder if it would work with this.
By going to build nights some folks might get into this. I guess I’d prefer this to 40k and battle tech minis but they’re also cool. U can also make homemade rules for games with Gunpla I’ve seen
I just hope I don't get scared to commit like I did with LoTR. I got a bunch of sprues but not exactly knowing what I was doing I never built and painted them because I didn't want to mess up. It's also hard to begin because it seems like you need so many different color paints it's hard to begin
The thing about Bandai right now is they have very grand ambitions. Currently, Gundam is only really popular in Japan. It is known in the west, but it is still quite niche even among anime fans. Bandai wants to go worldwide in a big way. That's why they are pushing into spaces like this and are involved in a big-budget American live-action Gundam film. Who knows if it will all work out? As a Gundam, I hope it does. And as a general mecha fan, I certainly hope so since it could create the 3rd mecha boom (first was created by the OG Gundam and the 2nd was created by Evangelion)
True that, However, Gundam is more known than it was in the 80's and 90's. It's still a niche within a niche, time shall tell. Bandai's track record for international releases hasn't been the best . Yikes. Here's a fool hope that it'll be awesome and not a fart in the wind!
@@tmsern4341 Anime in general is known more in the west than it was in the 80s and 90s. I wouldn't really call anime a niche in the west anymore. Maybe it still is niche for older generations, but it is almost certainly mainstream for Millennials and younger. Bandai doesn't have the best track record for international releases, but the point of my post is that seems to be changing. Bandai no longer seems content with Gundam only being mainstream in Japan. I think their ambitions are for Gundam to be as popular worldwide as other anime franchises like Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc.
Rather more than 8 MS have been shown so far. Their website has 8 units in a grid (5 different Gundams: RX-78, Unicorn, Ariel, Wing Zero, Rising Freedom), Zaku2, Capule, Archangel), Then there is a Guntank, Ball, Zeong, Shinaju and a Zudah in the Video on the Space map, plus a couple of GMs and a different RX-78 sculpt on the Ground Board. That is before the card game deluxe packs which imply at a minimum a second Seed Gundam (i.e a Justice to go with the already seen Rising Freedom.).
In the back left of the display board with the "real" style there is also a Deathscythe as well as a bird form Wing 0 on the other side that seem get over looked a lot.
Even if Bandai abandons the game as quickly as GW abandons its side games...I will at least get to use these things in Battletech!

The card game ones seem to come on a round base unfortunately so not compatible with the table top version out of the box
And now begins the conversion from minis to 1/144 scale gunpla models
I am cautiously optimistic about this. I wouldnlove any I lBO suits along with classic Zeon aquatic suits like AC GUY and Z'Gok

Gundam for a miniature game could work well with the smaller Tau mechs.
Might take a bit of the Battletech market but that’s about it.
