hey some parts of the video might have really weird fucked up audio, and that's because some guy tried to (incorrectly) copyright claim the music i used in this video. (the music they claim to be in the video is entirely wrong). to resolve the claim youtube has a tool to use AI to remove only the music and leave voices and whatever, which is good enough i guess, so i just did that. i could dispute it but it's really not worth the time at all. you can read the claim here if you want: twitter.com/shoun1c/status/1729292057481515386

On a related note, flies and moths follow the light to get out, so if you have only 1 window with light passing through it, the fly/moth will always try to go through that window, even if all other windows are open and that one is closed.

Actually, I tested this out on a hightower server months ago. For some reason, when I pushed one cart JUST up to the junction, and then the other, so that for either one to move forward, it would have to pass through the other, it just stopped. No carts running up the stairs or breaking the game, just the round became what everyone wants in hightower anyways: infinite. I tried it on a community server too, and it lasted until the server got restarted

Map idea:
Reverse tug of war
Both carts are on the same track (or appear that way at least). There is no end that the carts need to reach for either team to win. Instead when the carts touch, they explode, and whichever teams base they were closest to will be the losers. But obviously for this to be fun after a certain point red needs to be able to push blues cart out of reds area, and vise versa. Also both teams can push the other teams cart back as fast as they can push their own forward. Also probably a grey zone in the middle where neither team loses when the carts explode, and both carts just respawn at the bases.
Red team pushes the cart towards blues base. Blue towards reds. Each has a pit at the front. If the cart is pushed all the way to the pit, that team loses. It's like a 5cp map but payload

Now the next question is: What happens if both carts arrive at the endpoint at the same time?

As someone who has (attempted to) create a payload map, I can agree that the cart does indeed gain sentience sometimes
I remember an old TF2 video where the server was modded to make the payload speeds much faster. When they collided, one of the payloads started spinning like crazy.

"Cart is possessed!" - TF2 Heavy, 2020
So the reason it's able to "step around" the wall at high enough speed is because the payload cart is actually multiple different entities. At minimum, there's a func_tracktrain (which handles moving the cart along the track and capping points), a prop_physics_override (which is what you see in-game), and a trigger_capture_area (which allows the cart to be pushed). Most carts also have a dispenser_touch_trigger to dispense health and ammo to players pushing the cart, and a trigger_hurt brush to keep things from getting stuck inside the cart.
What causes the "stepping around" behavior is that only the prop_physics_override has collision, and the way it's bonded to the rest of the cart entities lets it "slip" at higher speeds (presumably due to Source spaghetti - if I had to guess, the game first handles moving the func_tracktrain, then tries to move the rest to match. When that fails due to collision, everything is snapped back relative to the new position of the prop_physics_override, and the next tick carries on from there).
