    Deep, narrow fridge workaround: buy two mesh bins that fit inside the fridge (one on top of the other). Keeps things organized and it's easy to pull out the top bin to get to your stuff at the bottom.

      Good idea. Also, seems silly to throw out the removeable basket and then complain about how hard the bottom items are to reach!

    Here's an efficiency tip. line the bottoms with ice packs, and throw in icepacks/waterbottles as you empty it. The water will hold the cold much better than air. I made custom size ice packs with the food sealer bags filled with salt water.

    BTW, if anyone is worried by the Amazon page mentioning a Secop compressor instead of Danfoss, please know it's the same thing. Secop is a German company that in 2010 acquired Danfoss Household Compressors from Denmark's Danfoss Group. After this takeover, the Danfoss Household Compressors GmbH's name was changed to Secop GmbH.

    • @TheGuyFromDenmark95
      @TheGuyFromDenmark95 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Secop didnt buy Danfoss. Danfoss sold Danfoss Compressors (the company that originaly made Danfoss compressors) and made Secop. But Danfoss sold Secop in 2017, and then it was sold to a new company again in 2019. I made a seperate comment about it.

    Thank you for the coupon. Looks like a good purchase. We are in the Campfire rebuild process. Using a 7 x 14 Cargo Hauler I have gone micro-solar, with a small Westinghouse i2200 generator to charge the batteries, to get through the many power outages we are experiencing. (My system is a GoPower 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter with four Duracell 6 volt golf cart deep cycle 235.amp hour batteries, a 60 amp power converter, up to 3 Solar Panels including a GoPower Suitcase Panel set, 1 x 160 Watt Renogy and 1 x 160 watt GoPower panel mixed into an Asian 60 amp MPPT Controller.). This is my effort to get over the learning curve about Solar in general. Now a self installed grid tied inverter would be doable for me for less than 10K, and a off grid for more using the Edison Battery Banks. I'm thankful for your community that informs people like me with these products. Life isn't getting any cheaper. My wife and I are seniors on a fixed income. Good travels. George.

    Re-branded version of the same models sold by various companies such as Truck Fridge, Indel B, etc. That being said, I've been very happy with my Truck Fridge fridge...good value and reliable thus far (2+ years). Truck Fridge has their DC only TB31 on sale for $399 with free shipping. That is the size I have and works well for one person.

    A tip for increasing the overall efficiency of these refrigerators is to keep them full. A full fridge will cycle less often than a partly empty one because of the higher thermal mass of the stuff in it. It will take a little longer to cool down when the fridge cycles on, but in my experience (8 years with a Dometic CF40), the slight increase in run time is more than offset by the increased time between run cycles. Also, if you can, don't put warm stuff into the fridge.

    • @shawnr771

      I have used this theory by keeping my garage refrigerator full of beer and sodas.

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beemrdon52 Actually opening the door has little effect. The only thing that happens when you open the door is you let cold air escape and warm air in. However, the mass of air is small. For example, lets say you have a 10 cubic foot air volume in your fridge. 10 cubic feet of air weighs about 3/4 of a pound so exchanging all the cold air from the fridge for warm air would have less effect than putting a single can of soda or beer into the fridge. So yes opening the door doe cost some energy, but the amount is small in the overall scheme of running a fridge. Of course a top loader is better than a standard fridge with a door. For the small top loading portable fridges that are the subject of the video, heat loss by opening the lid is small since little warm air is let in. Also if you have a 40 qt cooler the amount of air in it f it is empty is less than two ounces (weight).

Have a 100W folding solar panel I’ve only tested once, and in Wisconsin fall sun it kept the Jackery at the same charge level for four hours-it would do better in direct sunlight, but it was laying in the bed of the truck partially in the shade.

    Size is everything. I live in a 98 CR-V, so I have to use a storage unit for space. However I am downsizing to just the car in the next coming year. My thinking is that I need just a little more room. The fix is to remove passenger side seat, which is now a problem as I do offer cheap rides for gas and this keeps me going. If I had a larger vehicle this wouldn't be an issue, however cost to operate does... There is a fine ballance.

    In light of the growing off grid refrigeration needs. It would be awsome if a company would design a full sized super insulated high efficency unit with an affordable price. As a home remodeler and builder I would love to see a built in refrigerator freezer that has a rear service acess door or panel. With the working parts modulerized so they can be serviced changed or upgraded as better tech becomes avalable. And this same high efficency unit would be the best choice for grid or of grid. Even the user acsess doors and face could be made to allow any choice color- style metal or wood etc. It could be designed to recycle the heat in winter and expel the heat in the summer. And a new owner of a property could swap out the look of a unit and even possibly get some trade in value for the old or existing components. All the frame and insulation, ports and passages could be build to last for generations and be essentualy part of the house. Saving it from ending up in a land fill. If designed well this would change the the game. Refrigerators have become extremly exspensive having a unit that uses trouble codes that the owner can see by just pressing a button. You would not be getting cheated by a dishonest repair man. And you could even be given a failed components current price and what the labor cost should not exceed.

    Bob I went heavy on solar, and less on battery, I have 300 watts and 115 amp hours th the difference is I don't use a fantastic fan, and all my lighting is run by rechargeable batteries, my lights go for about 8 months before they need to be recharged and I run my fans off battery also, so I recharge during the day and only my fridge actually gets into my battery bank during the night, and it only pulls down maybe 20 percent, also a new gimmick I found was a 150 watt inverter through ryobi. Being a carpenter I have an overwhelming number of ryobi batteries and a 12 volt charger so I can charge batteries all day and and I have an extra source of power at night. With 300 watts my solar goes to float by 10 right now even, charging batteries

    It looks very similar to my Costway refrigerator. It may not seem like it, but 50 quarts really gives you a fair amount of storage. I did switch it out for a regular 120VAC apartment refrigerator/freezer as I was: A; under utilizing my inverter and B; I wanted to reconfigure the interior of my van so I could add an interior shower.

      I might add that I have 400W of solar and 6 100amp batteries. Using two 12VDC refrigerators with one set up as a freezer on the hottest summer nights I never had the batteries drop below 84%. By the time the sun has been up for 45 minutes the batteries were back up to 100%. Using the 120VAC reefer/freezer I drop down to the same 84%. I kept one of the 12VDC refrigerators as a back up for extra storage if I need it.

You can stand it on top of the lower fridge items or, use it ‘feet up’ and lift it and all items sitting on it out, all at once. They go back just as easily without having to re-pack.

    I have the IndelB TruckFridge TB51A it's currently up to $670 with shipping and no bag. I paid $550 shipped last year for it.
    The ICECO is identical to the TruckFridge except the lid. Pretty sure they are the same fridge. With the 20% discount it's only $439.20, Which is a deal.
    You can get an extremepowerusa 52 quart fridge for $295.95 on Amazon with free shipping. It's made by Alpicool.
    I've been thinking about getting a second one and using one as a fridge and the other as a freezer. I was leaning toward the extremepowerusa, since it would save me like $350 over the TruckFridge. Plus I really would like to test it out and see how it compares to the TruckFridge. I just wasn't planning on buying anytime soon.
    Now I'm undecided what to do.

    I have a 3 cu ft pure freezer that is rated (yellow Energy Star placard) 300 kwh a year. So maybe 800 watt hours a day, and a fridge should be half that. I saw a Whirlpool 3 cu ft fridge freezer. Guy on Home Depot site says it uses 47 watts, running. Danfoss was huge 15 years ago, but now I think the Energy Star ratings have forced all fridges to have super efficient compressors. Be nice to have a freezer and fridge, for $159 or so. People should run some tests. Other thing is, with these cheap solar panels around, maybe changes the equation. Missing link is cheap lith batteries. The major players are selling turnkey systems, but the cells all come from China, and the pricing could be around $500 a kwh. It would be interesting if one of the solar companies with the big cheap panels could work out some connections in China for lith, then sell the electronics in a package.

      its for people who need to ask what a turnkey system is instead of looking it up themselves.
      no joke.
      get in car turn key. dont need to know how the motor or anything works you just turn key she starts up.
      its a metaphor.
      all the best to you in life

    Make sure you keep it upright for 4 hours before you plug it in. I noticed you turned it on it’s side and that can cause it to malfunction. That’s why the box says keep it upright.

      Although this might not be an pretty solution for you.
      You can make a cover from Rigid Pink Foam board from Home Depot.
      2 inch thick offers a significant R value.
      Probably better than the bag cover thing.
      It will take a little bit of DIY.
      A razor knife, a long straight edge, a sharpie, some construction adhesive Locktite tubes, a cheap caulking gun , and some Gorilla tape.
      Make a box that your fridge will fit in. Glue and tape your seams.
      I would not glue the foam to the refrigerator in case you needed to return the fridge to the manufacturer or you decided to sell or replace it.
      DO NOT COVER OR BLOCK THE VENTS IN ANYWAY.
      If you do not like the look of the pink foam board you can glue a sheet of formica to the faces.
      You can probably make the basic box for less than 100 dollars.

    I've wondered if you could replace a 120v compressor with a danfoss? Would it be worth it to go through the trouble to have native DC right off your bank vs. running an inverter?

    Just bought one, thanks for the discount code!...Waiting for your next VIDE-OOH!
    One question: Is there a way/possibility to trigger both freezing (at the bottom) and refrigeration (near the top) by setting a particular temperature and what would this number be? Just wondering since I would like to keep 1 pack of frozen burgers and 1 pack of broccoli at the bottom while the other stuff would be on top in the slightly warmer top. Some sort of 'near-freezing' could be allowed for this too? Anyone and any thoughts or suggestions (other than buying 2 of these) or any experiences with food longevity with what I am suggesting? Thanks!

    The bagged ice comparisons are mute since iced food cannot be colder than 30 or so degrees unless you salt it.. the electric fridge freezers can go down to MUCH colder temps year round.

      How big is your roof rack?
      I have a 180 Watt panels that is approx 2.5 feet by 4 feet long.
      They have made more efficient panels of the same size that put out more energy than that.
      Buy a good charge controller.
      There is a TH-camr named Will Prowse who does an excellent job of explaining solar. Search his name and it will pop up.

    Question, if I get the Jackery 500, keep it plugged in to my cigarette outlet (I work and live in a big city, so driving about 2hrs. per day) to charge this refrigerator and use an induction cooker a couple of times a week, do you believe I'll be fine? I'm trying to settle between the alpicool a few dollars less or this as you say the compressor is great.

    • @bvisel4558
      @bvisel4558 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if all you are running is the fridge (40 watts) the Jackery stores about 400 watt hours, so you are looking at 10 hours of use.

    • @explorervango880
      @explorervango880 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Vance that would be wrong. The compressor doesn’t run non-stop. It will run the whole day with most of the battery life remaining.
