As somebody who fights often (mma/wrestling) I always find the best way to stop takedowns is simply dropping all your dead weight and basically sliding backwards while widening your legs. In other words create a heavy wide base to drop all your weight on. Do this and suddenly for the other guy instead of tackling just you it'll feel like he's tackling 7 of you.
I was in a fight with a buddy who was bigger than me and I tried that... it was a game of rodeo for me. Was it his repeat slams lifting my 140lb body and dropping it or my headlock that won? TBH in self-defense (at my weight) this was a horrible idea but a dam fun one for sure.
@kmch7286 the crank is better bc they can’t see where they’re hitting, while you’re preforming this I would suggest that you shove your knee in the stomach. It makes them weak giving you time to get away or win the fight lol
I accidentally broke this guy's neck, it left some perma scars on him mentally but I managed to humble him and make him a better man But thx for the techniques it helped me in the fight
Just my two cents as a former wrestling coach. Step back the leg on the head side each time. The head is the driving force on a double leg and on a single leg not doing so puts the leg in front of his face for an easy grab. Its harder to grab a leg opposite your head.
I can actually see this honestly working but it'd be better if you went directly for the neck crank, because every split second matters when forced to defend yourself. The quicker you can incapacitate the better
Good advice. Many wrestling counter moves are also effective: sprawls, cross-face, pry bar, crotch lock to a sprawl reversal or tilt, front headlock to rib cradle/reversal/cement mixer/shrug, three quarter nelson, over and under hooks to a throw, ect. Also, a knee to an incoming opponent is effective. Keeping your head lever lower than his and side stepping your adversary is also advantageous. Do agree with the aforementioned attacks to the head and neck regions, though. Front headlock choke outs suffice, too. Best option, run away from conflict and avoid litigious proceedings, along with monetary demise.
Good advice. As a practitioner of karate & a former free style wrestler I know what the leg take downs mean. So many ppl are learning jujitsu now so more and more guys are trying these types of take downs in street fights. striking to the back of the neck is good too.
I have seen 3 of your videos; fundamental striking, groundfighting and defense against comman attacks. Very good videos! I saw your defense against the tackle on the videos. I think from my experience that the sprawl is much better because your enemy will have forward pressure and fast speed so you have to move your feet backwards and do a sprawl. it is the only defense that I think will work if your enemy really try to take you down with a low tackle. Sprawl is also about to have good footwork. I saw in your video that your partner managed to grab your leg almost every time. If you had try the sprawl instead I think he would not managed to grab your leg. You can be up on your feet very quick after a sprawl. That is better then letting your enemy grab your leg. Just my advice to you. Take care and keep up the good work you are doing!
BS adrenaline will make you move extremely fast and more power full and since his momentum is going forward yes you can snap his neck as hes not all a sudden gonna roll with his neck.
Pro tip: If you get in a fight like that and you seriously injure the attacker and it ends up in court. Remember this phrase. "I ( insert what action you took ) him until the aggression stopped". Remember guys in court it's all about proper articulation of your self-defence actions that will get you off the hook.
Yes at Krav Maga I also learned the sprawl against the 'both legs tackle', I think it comes from MMA. I found it pretty effective and pretty easy to do and you can bring him to the ground that way, you can decide to get him in a guillotine choke then as well. I haven't seen these techniques yet and it's probably way better if there any other threats around. I love the scenario training Nick Grossos I'd love to see that again!
I don't know, the attacker had bad form and it assumes that he'll just hang his head there long enough to grab it. A good shot is going to come up with the leg as fast as you can so that head is going to be moving fast. I don't know of any single leg tackles anyway, single leg attacks are usually to raise the leg and dump the opponent over.
Breaking this down, the defender's forearm block orients his leading forearm in one direction, hand up. If that fails, the next response is turning the attacker's head, which requires the defender to use the same leading forearm in hand-down orientation. It would be worth exploring how to make this transition.
Up-down elbows are effective against a takedown. Lower your center of gravity and as he tries to grab your legs go for the up-down elbows. They are so dangerous that they are not allowed in MMA
Using head control on the single would be good but like stated for the double it would be hard. I would try to sprawl before he attach his hands on my legs. As for multiple opponents get up before the start kicking your head in.
If you really want to learn to defend a takedown watch a wrestling tutorial on the sprawl and the whizzer. The "face drag" this dude tried is a half assed whizzer.
just a little tip on if an opponent tries tackling with 2 hands a great akiddo technique would be to take the take drop all your weight and get them to roll over you or you could even throw them off
A swing kick to the face works well. Also, jump to the side and make the bull rusher pay with a judo chop to the neck. Never let anyone as close to you as is show in this video. If you are a super good athlete, jump to the side like a bullfighter and front kick the SOB in the knee as he goes by. I like that technique because it keeps the jerk away from you, and you might get lucky and blow his knee out. If you hurt his knee and he stays bent over, give the back of his neck a few taps. Hey, this is an attack and you want to hurt him before he hurts you.
Yes indeed a knee is a great option. However, be careful to time it right, because you'll be one one leg. Trying to sprawl is also an option. But you need to back back on your feet quickly. Stay safe.
Very good video, do you feel this is more effective than sprawling or giving the attacker a quick short upper cut to the face as they are lunging forward and down towards your legs.
This video is NOT good... But your skepticism is. Hang on to that. This is a terrible way to defend a takedown. What I think you MAY be referring to with the uppercut thing - a common technique in MMA is to lunge and tap the knee to threaten the takedown, then swing a big overhand to tag them on the chin when they instinctively sprawl. That ACTUALLY does happen. An uppercut wouldn't be as feasible because it doesn't mesh well with faking the takedown... It's.. hard to explain. Look up "fake the takedown and punch KO"
This is not how you defend the takedown at all You throw your hips back going for a neck crank makes the takedown way easier. In a real fight this does not work. I have over 10 years of grappling. VS someone who doesn't know what they are doing taking an hour to learn a good sprawl will make it impossible for anyone who is not a wrestler to take you down then after you do it and they are on their knees you just run away. Even if the neck crank does work which it won't most of the time you don't want to kill someone. I see he is trying to do a wrestling crossface defense but that doesn't work at all without the sprawl he is doing a sprawl crossface by moving into the takedown its dumb.
+Allie Farid Not kidding, I was about to post a comment about this. Not to mention how this man's tackle involves a hunched back. If someone came at me with his head down and back arched, I would just stuff his head while sprawling.
+Allie Farid sprawl ftw here. why doesn't he know that. if that big guy really tackled you and you didn't sprawl, you're not going to have time to neck crank him, you'll be flying toward the ground
I have found in practice that This will not work, in part because the inertia from the attacker will likely offset your own balance making it difficult if not near impossible to use both hands to turn his head. Secondly, in this instance you are assuming the assailant leaves a gap between your hips and his head, that is also unlikely as even untrained individuals will know to keep the head away from danger and tucked in close to the opponent.
Theoretically it could work but requires a precise timing to hit him before he gets to you. Once he's pushing you backwards you are off balance so it would be impossible to do. Best thing is, try it with your friends and see if that works for you vs. this.
Damjan Visnjic Great comment Damjan...well said, I totally agree. Some techniques might work with certain people and fail with others. As a rule of thumb, it's preferable to stay on your feet and avoid being on one leg in a street fight. However, there might be great occasions to throw solid knee strikes. Every situation is different. Take care and stay safe
Also by the time he is trying to crank the neck he will kiss the fucking floor with the back of his head. In some BJJ tournaments neck cranks are allowed. Even neck cranck experts can't stop a double leg with it. The fact he dosen't know the diff beetween thai and jitsu tells how well rounded he is in grappling.
Is there more about this situation and other techniques that could be used in a tackle situation and more techniques that could be used if a fall to the ground should occur in your paid products? If so, I would be be very likely buying the product.
Guys when you fight don't do this if you wanna never get body slammed in a fight get your head low when they run at you so you will still have a chance to wrestle them atleast and try to push down there head as far as you can before you do this because they can still body slam you if they have the position also just punch and move out the way don't get close enough for them to get a chance to body slam you if they run at you like a retard upper cut them or hit them in there stomach and they will drop down right there and make sure you lean back if they try to punch you.
One of the possible probs will be that the attacker moves straight forward while grapping, not like that standing here in the vid. And to make a good defense while be pushed back is hard
thanks for this video its good to learn more I have my own method of countering a tackle it is great to learn more escapes.. mine is a ground based counter method I have skills in both ground and standing... great video
keep sharing your self defense knowledge it helps a lot of people ... my awareness and confidence actually prevented a potentially dangerous situation just a few days ago I'm proud of the way I handled it
Me and some friends like to do a but of rough and tumble, and one of my friends always uses this. Hes gonna be in for a surprise soon lol. Thanks fella
i called these techniques crawling techniques, to sum it up, if your technique come on second you in trouble, can one beat his timing before one hits the ground ? getting hold of your leg or legs you probably in a uncomfortable position to complete the technique. if somehow one can hold on onto that position a little longer it might just do.
a teacher from a karate school taught me and some other class mates that when someone tries to kick u grab there leg and tap the side of the ankle. He tap us near the ankle and we couldn't for like 30 seconds
neck crank wouldnt always work unless you control the distance but if you doing that you rerally wouldnt need to worry about them tackling you in the first place but still very effective in getting them off you
One time when I got tackled I just wrapped my arm around their head and slammed their head against the ground. Depending on who it is your fighting it will knock them out
Seems to me the logical thing to do is knee in the face. Idealy the chin. The impact is like a head on collision. To increase impact also push his head down simultaneusly!
In a fight when they tackle me I push their neck then go to a headlock put my knees on the ground if you squeeze enough or twist the neck you can do some good damage
Classic wrestling perspective; the body follows the head. Crossface the shit out of the guy with your forearm, and the tackle won't happen (unless it's Moose and/or the guy is way bigger than you)!
Some guy tried to tackle me and tackled me by the legs or waist i was beginning to lose my ground but i hugged his waist and lifted him up by his waist and it stopped him
Google the Wing Chun sidestep, imagine a train coming at you, you have to move your body off center and to the side. The tackler won't be able to stop immediately, so you can use the momentum to bring down your attacker.
Most of the people go for this takedown, they tuck their head in your stomach. So unless you wanna pull up on their head with your hands underneath them, risky because they could bite, it's really risky to have this idea in your head in a real fight.
If he grabs both legs, grab his belt from over the top of the back and lift up while driving your elbow into his back. This lowers his back and gives him no leverage. While grabbing the belt, sprawl your legs back. This is assuming he already got in a grip on your legs and is pulling them in. I did this about two weeks ago and it worked just fine. He couldn't pull my legs out from under me and I stayed over the top of him. Once you let go, you loose all leverage and he will drive into you and drop you onto your back. He had friends nearby so whailing on him would not have been a good choice for me. I kept my back to a wall, held on to his belt and looked around and kept situationally aware. It worked just fine. Any grab to his head or arms and you have no grip and he'll drive you over. I had no marks on me. You can't even get a leg back as he's hanging on to them and pulling your knees in.
Hey bro im going to keep it real. If your saying this works against an unskilled attacker with know clue ok. But even with a 16 year old kid who has a high school wrestling back round it will not work. A wrestler has a strong neck and there take downs are extremely explosive. Im telling all of you put a helment on and practice this with restiance 4 rounds 2 minutes. and you will see that it will not be as successful as if you would train MMA and leaen how to sprawl then I would be sold. You have to train with someone not allowing you to do it then you will truly see the truth instead of theorized tactics.
yeah man i agree with you Anthony. I trained in boxing and have been able to get away with a quickly timed side step and perfectly timed shot to peoples ear or back of the ear as they miss. I am not sure it requires fast foot work but i normally am sliding back as i am being rushed so they have to explode but they already have exploded so it loses the explosion side step and pivot. The problem with all of these things is you either know how to fight or you don't If you don't the chances of you being taken down is almost every time. Also you can't be afraid to execute what you do know which normally comes in the form of you have sparred and are not afraid of being hit. Another technique i have used is sliding back holding a arm out like a stiff arm and as soon as my hand touches the any part of him i sprawl. I only did it that way is to make sure i don't sprawl to early or telegraph a sprawl that makes him do something else.
+BX JRS Essentiallty, you are angling your chest and shoulders down onto the tacklers head and dropping. This puts their face into the ground, with very little resistance. Hope this helped.
Hello mr.Nick, it's been a while. I am starting school in april and planning on taking up jujitsu again. Would love your thoughts. I also wanted you to tell me what you thought of my google page. I will keep training in self defense and I'm so happy that I am starting school, taking up jujitsu again and that you're replying to my comments. Well I'm off to bed cuz It's 1:00am in the morning. ZzZzzZzzz meow.🐱
This is why wrestling is the most dominant base in a 1v1 fight, you can easily take them down and ground and pound. Jiujitsu can do the same but their takedowns and defense is inferior, a lot of guys pull guard in competition because of this. Though some schools offer a hybrid bjj base with heavy wrestling and least amount of judo, this will be standard 'bjj' someday.
as a wrestler the guy trying to describe a single and double leg was horrible while a wrestling take down you are trying to drive towards and up (then the finish you are trying to do typically turning the corner) of them he describes it as towards and down which isn’t even an effective takedown making sprawling easier. Basically instead of doing a wack crossface literally just sprawl and then pummel them
Yeah this looks good at slow speed but unfortunately if a grappler has even 1 of his legs the grappler won’t let go no matter what he hits the grappler with and the grappler will take him down and climb all over him (unless he can grapple too) like glue until he is in a submission
this probably would not work in real life. I've been doing martial arts for a number of years and I've been in one real street fight. The football tackle was how I won that fight. A guy I knew back in high school found out that his ex-girlfriend who he had been abusive towards anything for me so he vandalized my car. I heard through the Grapevine who it was and called him up one night to confront him. He tells me to drive to his house right then to fight him so I obliged. it's like 2 in the morning when I get there and pitch black out. I walk up to his front lawn and I hear the door open. he comes out swinging and lands a few blows. I'll and a pretty good strike right to his face and then immediately follow up with a football tackle and mounted him. He was completely done after that, I hammer fisted him about 10 times before I felt like I had gotten the message across. Football tackle is a great move and extremely hard to defend against in an actual street fight. the best approach to a street fight is to try to trap somebody up against a wall so that they have no ability to get any force behind their strikes since Force comes from drying your limbs back and then throwing them forward. The best way to do that is to make the ground the wall that you trap them up against.
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your input on this topic of self-defense. It's great to see that the tackle was a great fit for you that night. We're glad to hear that you're OK from that encounter. Stay safe.

No. In a real fight, his neck will never be loose. It will most likely do nothing to the attacker.

Up-down elbows are effective against a takedown. Lower your center of gravity and as he tries to grab your legs go for the up-down elbows. They are so dangerous that they are not allowed in MMA

thanks for this video its good to learn more I have my own method of countering a tackle it is great to learn more escapes.. mine is a ground based counter method I have skills in both ground and standing... great video
Thanks for your comment, we're glad that you like the video. Keep training hard and stay safe
keep sharing your self defense knowledge it helps a lot of people ... my awareness and confidence actually prevented a potentially dangerous situation just a few days ago I'm proud of the way I handled it
Me and some friends like to do a but of rough and tumble, and one of my friends always uses this. Hes gonna be in for a surprise soon lol. Thanks fella
How did it go
i called these techniques crawling techniques, to sum it up, if your technique come on second you in trouble, can one beat his timing before one hits the ground ? getting hold of your leg or legs you probably in a uncomfortable position to complete the technique. if somehow one can hold on onto that position a little longer it might just do.
Actually just put your arms over the attacker to grab them and fall back with the tackle. Their head will be the first thing to hit the floor.
Great points! Thanks for sharing your input on this self defense video. Cheers
I always wondered, would a DDT work in real life?
a teacher from a karate school taught me and some other class mates that when someone tries to kick u grab there leg and tap the side of the ankle. He tap us near the ankle and we couldn't for like 30 seconds
That's why I'm setting my sprawls training,
Good stuff Marquan... Keep up the good work and stay safe.
@@codereddefense yes sir
@@codereddefense it's gonna be 6497 Sprawls training for me alone,
YOO THE NECK CRANK IS A GRUESOME DEFENSE!!! Thank you!
I've never heard anyone make so much sense.
+Iestyn Dalli Thanks Lestyn...Stay safe
Thanks bro
Thanks Metric for your comment. Stay safe
neck crank wouldnt always work unless you control the distance but if you doing that you rerally wouldnt need to worry about them tackling you in the first place but still very effective in getting them off you
One time when I got tackled I just wrapped my arm around their head and slammed their head against the ground. Depending on who it is your fighting it will knock them out
Thanks for your input on this topic of self-defense. Stay safe.
What would you do if you were underneath and he’s about to flip you upside down
Great question Jack, we'll make a video about this. Cheers
For a guy that doesn’t no how to wrestle that was very good advice for 3 minute video
So I won't need to worry about accidentally breaking his neck while doing a neck crank in a situation like that?
Thanks man you helped me out a lot
You're welcome, glad to hear it was helpful. Cheers
Would it be bad to knee the guy if he try’s to slam you
Seems to me the logical thing to do is knee in the face. Idealy the chin. The impact is like a head on collision. To increase impact also push his head down simultaneusly!
Great straight forward common sense strategies. Excellent videos. Thanks
+Mark Hearn Thanks a lot Mark...Glad that you like our self defense videos. Stay safe
Sprawl and knee works well too.
Yup
I tried to sprawl but I’m not strong enough
In a fight when they tackle me I push their neck then go to a headlock put my knees on the ground if you squeeze enough or twist the neck you can do some good damage
What they straight up lounges at you holding your hands.
Enough self defense. Go for self offense. Tackle the guy first!
Good point... Well said
hey man how can i fight a person when i'm seated and my opponent standing??? pls answer thanks
+cidreck dela cruz Hi Cidreck, here's the video on how to defend yourself when sitting on a chair: th-cam.com/video/QldGYQMLG7E/w-d-xo.html Stay safe
+CodeRedDefense.com thanks
Classic wrestling perspective; the body follows the head. Crossface the shit out of the guy with your forearm, and the tackle won't happen (unless it's Moose and/or the guy is way bigger than you)!
Thanks Richard for sharing your input on this video. Stay safe.
Thanks, the neighbors kid didn't stand a chance
Some guy tried to tackle me and tackled me by the legs or waist i was beginning to lose my ground but i hugged his waist and lifted him up by his waist and it stopped him
Glad to hear this tactic worked well for you. Thanks for sharing your experience as this helps everyone. Cheers
Google the Wing Chun sidestep, imagine a train coming at you, you have to move your body off center and to the side. The tackler won't be able to stop immediately, so you can use the momentum to bring down your attacker.
When You fall tho keep your head up so you dont hit your head on the ground.
OMG THX SO MUCH!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and take care.
Most of the people go for this takedown, they tuck their head in your stomach. So unless you wanna pull up on their head with your hands underneath them, risky because they could bite, it's really risky to have this idea in your head in a real fight.
What about the sprawl?
***** I agree with you...Sprawling can indeed by risky in a street fight. Multiple attackers can be very dangerous. Stay safe
Head Crank that's right,
Thanks for watching!
@@codereddefense you welcome
It's the video I was looking all over the internet
What do you think Happens when i kick my knee in His face while He tackles
Well, wouldn't it be easier if you step out of the way to trip them on time instead?
That is an option, but you can potentially lose your balance when doing this self-defense move.
What about guillotine choke if he tries to tackle me?
I never thought I'd see creepy cooter here. Crazy!
Watch out for guillotine escapes
Good advice, thx
did you seriously just say Thai Jiu Jitsu lol? Two different worlds my man
yup this guy's confused..
The picture alone practically explains how to avoid being tackled
Thanks or watching El.
If you’re going to put on hands on their head then take a fraction of a second to poke one or both of their eyes
Add some knees in there too
Yes indeed, that can be an option. Thanks Jake for your comment.
Thanks, the last time my cousin charged at me in anger was not long ago, I may or may have not kicked him in his stomach.
Be safe out there.
I only did it that way is to make sure i don't sprawl to early or telegraph a sprawl that makes him do something else.
so no one gonna talk about his ripped shirt....xs headass 😂
Everyone is talking about the sprawl .. what is that??
+BX JRS Essentiallty, you are angling your chest and shoulders down onto the tacklers head and dropping. This puts their face into the ground, with very little resistance. Hope this helped.
This is so damn empowering !! Thanks!👍😎
I feel like hip pressure and a whizzer or cross face would of been some things that should of been taught in this.....
thanks for the translation
Stay safe.
Will this work on red dead redemption? I keep getting choked to death
Sprawl?
All you have to do is sprawl and your good
Yes good point Daveil, but your forearms should be up to block the incoming attack and protect your center-line at the same time. Stay safe.
