It was 2017, and it was 4 am and I was dozing on the outdoor patio of the Michelin Pavilion at LeMans which is located at the Ford Chicanes. And all I could hear is the mutiple popping sound of every LMP2 as they slowed for the Chicanes. There were over 20 of them in the field and the sound was incredible.
Seen these race in Japan at Fuji Speedway. They sound incredible. It was a 6 hour symphony . Loud and fast and the LMP2 prototypes look insane .Excellent video Bozzy keep them coming
Sounds like a higher revving one too at that. You can hear the trumpet-like undertones is nearly 1:1 with that of the Nissan. Do they use the same headers?
Chris Charizard Nope, the headers are different, & the road going VKs are *crossplane* If you straight piped a VK45, it sound nothing like these prototypes. It will sound like a 4.6 or 5.0 Mustang because of the DOHC V8 layout. *watch Chris Forsberg's VK56 swapped V8 350Zs*

Love it bro, nice video ! I think they changed the ECU just before le mans 2017, I remember being a bit disappointed at the testday because they weren't backfiring on every upshifts as in your vid ! But Porsche brought the new exhaust for the RSR that year, so the disappointment was forgotten almost instantly 😅
Thanks for the explanation on when the actual ECU update happened. Since I generally see LMP2 cars in Monza only in the few months before Le Mans 24h, I should have imagined it could have been an update for Le Mans instead of a new one at the beginning of the season.. Thank you for watching my friend!
@@andrewklein7997 Not too bad at all as the shifts are smooth. The pops from the downshifts are the real culprit. I heard that they have moved the exhaust outlets to the back to help with noise at the track.
I'd say there have never been real night races in Monza in recent times, but maybe I'm too young to remember that... There may have been something in the Sixties but in minor national championships. And also some races that started late in the afternoon to end at dusk. The only times I saw cars in the dark at Monza Circuit are during the 2017 ELMS tests and WEC Prologue (both in this video) and every year during the Monza Rally Show
higher cockpit height they introduced makes them look a bit weird tho. like a bubble car on serious steroids. I would have made the cockpit a little wider as well as taller to make it easier on the eye.
If one day motorsport events will start again I'll do it for sure. For now you can find some Oreca 07s with binaural audio in one of the ffirst binaural video I made: th-cam.com/video/h7YW0KX0cdw/w-d-xo.html

Great video Bozzy! Even though they sound good, they can get a tad annoying after a while plus ain't really a fan of the artificial sounding pops and bangs when down shifting, great video nonetheless though! ;p
Heard these LMP 2s at Rolex 24 earlier this year. They got a nice racy sound, better than Mazda and Acura/Honda, but nothing on the LMP1 Cadillac sound.
The sound of this cars is so underrated, they sound so well and people don't give credits to these cars
Something about these V8’s I just love...
closed-wheel prototypes always look so much more futuristic than formula cars

Hope some road legal super cars use the shape of lmp cars

Because they dont squeal like mice..
Small electric motors+dog gears=screaming mice..

should've kept the LMP1 class

I don't think they're artificial sounds. It's a racecar, where function is over form (or sound). If it's in there it's for a performance reason
