    I was concieved in Dallas, born in Tulsa, mother's family has ranched in West Texas since the 1880's. When I was a kid bouncing back and forth from our ranch in Oklahoma and in Texas I had a friend who had moved from San Marcos to Oklahoma. They introduced me to Jerry Jeff, Rusty, and Gary P. Nunn when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. From then on I knew where I belonged. Glad to have been back after a short stint in New Mexico....

    Austin in the 70's was a one of those special times & places that rarely happen. I am so glad I was there, living in the apartments on Academy connected right on to the Opry House, Walk to The Dillo, drive out to Soap Creek, Liberty Lunch, Backstage Bar n rill and so very, very much more. There was music everywhere you went, and a mellow we are all in this together attitude. Happens once in a lifetime.

      I lived in a commune house off MLK and then by the Intramural fields near Taco Flats ("over 6,000 returned"). Asleep at the Wheel, Sir Doug Sahm, Freddy Fender, so so much great music and artists!!

      From an aging hippie chick, I do so miss the Austin I loved so much then. Now it is a soulless yuppie hell. I would love to go back in time. At least we still have Dirty's, El Patio and a few left.

    Hi Y'all! I was lucky, as a "damn Yankee!" in Austin to have played bass for Rusty in the mid-80s before I re-joined the USAF as an officer. Will Indian et. al. are to blame!!. Rusty taught me how to lead a band. I used that knowledge in Cheyenne with Pat, Chris, Mark J., Monty, and Tex to make "Mister Coffee and the Grounds for Divorce." I'll not soon forget playing with Rusty and meeting ALL of his dear friends. There will NEVER be another like him.

    I miss Rusty... I know Michael Murphey, Mr. Nesmith, and always remember B.W.!
    One of those three wrote this song when they signed with RCA records. None of them would admit that they wrote the damn thing.
    I first heard the Nesmith version, then loved B.W.'s... but, I would bet that Mr. Murphey wrote most of it.
    Who knows.
    Rusty Wier was an amazing man and musician... we had tales and travels a long time ago... that shall remain unsaid. And, NO he wasn't gay... I served as a chef and guard.

    Rusty does a good job on this! I need to dig out the old BW Stevenson vinyl to check the credits, but I think BW wrote it. Great song, great rendition!!! and if you can find it... Mike Nesmith (The Monkees) also recorded it with his First National Band. OMG maybe Mike wrote it

    I'm gonna spread a rumor......that this song was not written by Rusty....nor BW.....nor Michael Murphy......................but was written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees.....way back in the day in Dallas Texas.

      Michael and Boomer wrote it (as credited on both BW's and Michael Murphy's albums). Not sure it was written in Dallas though, as the two of them were in a band called The Lewis and Clark Expedition in SoCal in the late 60s and Nesmith (a friend of both) got them a contract with the label that did the Monkees albums

    • @TheWendybird123
      @TheWendybird123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure when Michael Martin Murphey recorded his own version of HIS song "Texas Morning" (co-written with Boomer Castleman) - but as far as I can find, Mike Nesmith recorded it first on his Nevada Fighter album for RCA in 1971. It's a great version. Nesmith and Murphey were friends from Texas and were in a group together called Trinity River Boys - recorded an album in 1964, but it was never released. Bummer!

      No, Mike Nesmith's was the first cover - on his Nevada Fighter album for RCA, released May 1971. It's great! BW's cover came out in Feb 72. Written by Michael Martin Murphey and Boomer Castleman. I've heard 4 covers now of "Texas Morning" and they are all awesome, each a bit different (Nesmith, Murphey, Stevenson, and Weir).
