As a niner fan, he didn't have good teams with the Jets and Carolina. He learned for a year under Kyle. I hope he does well.

Remember that no quarterback after Darnold was able to make those Jets and Panthers team look good. Easily could turn into a nice Geno Smith like story, or a very mediocre season.

Darnold is a bust it’s that simple. Has the arm talent with a 10 cent head. He sees ghosts, can handle the processing in the fray it’s that simple. He’s had multiple opportunities to show he can overcome his mental processing issues and simply can’t do it and he won’t do it in MN. Vikings with this brutal start of the schedule playing 6 straight playoff teams after week 1 at NYG will be 0-7. The air will come out of the ballon in NY when Darnold loses the game with the same issues he’s always shown. Stick a fork in the Vikings this season it will be over by the quarter pole. Hopefully Kwesi gets shown the door in 2025.
I would love for Sam to have a great start to the season so I can come back to this thread and reply to the idiots saying he's garbage, calling you a Karen Niner fan, and saying he's a bust no matter what he does....and ask them how they're doing since Sam is shoving their crap back down their throats. 😈😈😈

Raiders are getting a top rookie qb next year or jump into the Dak Prescott sweepstakes if he becomes a FA.

Sure Brock benefits from the guys around him, but he in large part is the driving force behind that offense’s success (him and cmc). Hurts and Tua were objectively bad players UNTIL their GMs gave them super teams.

I find it ridiculous that since he came here, until now, all of this has been ignored.
When he got here all we heard was "he better produce now. Maybe O'Connell can help him but we're not sure at this point in his career."

Why wasn't Darnold in that same position when he came here until now?

I've said it from the beginning and even before he came to the Vikings - Darnold's career was absolutely screwed by being on bad teams with bad coaches. (Trevor Lawrence was almost in that same position)
Then he went to SF and just had bad luck because how they managed that QB room.
I have every confidence in him until I see otherwise.
I have a feeling media types will be saying "Darnold is the surprise story of the season."
Might be best for everyone. Darnold gets an entire year. Vikes escape a QB controversy. McCarthy gets to sit a year.
Not only that but it avoids an ugly situation where the Fans start chanting McCarthy's name each time Sam has a 3-and-out on a drive.
@@oel734 Good catch. Yes, it won't be "Put Tebow in!" They can't put McCarthy in. They might put the QB2 in. Evaluation for trading that person sometime. Not to curse anyone, but it won't be like Cousins achilles where they did a lottery of sorts with their QB roster. The sensible thing would be just platoon the QBs they have. Reminds me of some team ages ago where there were multiple QBs and the coach would send in the QB with the play call. Olden days.

@@usa91787 Because that's what detractors expect from Sam as no one (it seems) was watching the 2022 Carolina Panthers (or rather paying attention) when Sam took over for an ineffective Baker Mayfield (who went 1-5) and went 4-2 (with the same players Baker struggled with) almost dragging that team to the playoffs.
They're still stuck on "I see ghosts" even though that was *FOUR f'n years ago*.
Some people just don't want Sam to improve as a QB because it destroys their "Sam sucks and I want to make fun of him 'cause my life is pathetic" narrative.

I'll hope for the best, but I'm not getting invested until he does some proving. One thing's for sure: we'll get our answer to whether or not he's been a victim of circumstance, because if he can't thrive within Minnesota's offense, I doubt he thrives anywhere.

I think he can have a year like Geno smith had his first year with the Seahawks. He’s more talented and a better passer of the ball.
He can have all the talent in the world and be a superstar in college, but the NFL is a different animal. A quarterback has to have a talented brain, and he must be able to bounce back from adversity rather than a mental meltdown when everything goes wrong after an interception leads to four interceptions. I don’t think Sam has it in him. I think he will backslide and become what he has always been. Unfortunately, the Vikings might not have JJ McCarthy, a winner to fall back on.
As a lifelong minnesota fan,I have 0 confidence in darnold. I've seen him play with other teams.
Look for Sam to have better numbers than Kirk with JJettas look at Jj,s numbers with trash last year and missing 7 games!
If JJ were healthy, Darnolds' position would be on the line. When will they put JJ in. At least now that conversation is out.

I appreciate somebody showing this dude some respect. Watch his highlights in "New York". It's Darnold to Crowder, like a 5'10 receiver. Those guys had a connection that because they were all they had and couldn't overcome. He had some impressive plays. Sam Darnold is not the end of the world at worst. They'll upset more with him Ill bet than with the rook. He's kinda perfect for whatever ass minnesota that cant ever put it together. Ima laugh if can glue something together there.

Well, Kirk barely has a winning record so as a Vikings fan I’m thinking Sam will be ok. In fact, in their last 7 starts both Kirk and Sam are 4-3 and Sam did that with 6 games at terrible Carolina and 1 game at SF without McCaffrey, Debo, and Ayuk. Kirk may start 0-3 again this year, but with Atlanta.

Across his 27 college games over two seasons, Darnold amassed a whopping 36 turnovers. He lost 14 fumbles out of a total of 20, and threw 22 interceptions on 846 attempts (2.6%). After losing 5 fumbles and throwing 9 interceptions in 2016, Darnold lost 9 fumbles and threw 13 interceptions in 2017 as he threw 114 more passes. Why would any team pick him round 1?

Going back to 6 year old draft reports, living off the fumes of Darnold's college glory and ignoring his years of crappy NFL play and blaming it all on something, anything else- head coaches, other players, chaos!!! Enjoy your 5-6 win season. Their GM knew not to get rid of their 1st round pick next year- it'll be a top 5 overall!

I've been a huge Bobo since 1977. Darnold sucks and a TON of Vikings fans are delusional. Just because he's on our team, somehow he's going from worst QB in the NFC to top 5. It's freaking ridiculous.
He's started 56 games? He is what he is, a potato. A full season, 4 or 5 wins tops.
Darnold is not accurate and makes poor decisions. He's been throwing dumb picks since USC. If it was all about arm strength Jamarcus Russell would be in Canton. Good luck Vikings.

He looked good at Carolina until D got injured and started sucking and McCaffrey went down. Not enough targets there. Purdy look great without him and a WR down vs Cleveland? Believe he had 3 picks and an L. Minnesota is the first team that can play some D and run the ball. This is Sam’s real first opportunity.

To blame the coaching and players around him are excuses. In 56 games you should still be able to evaluate the player regardless of who he plays with or who is coach is. What great coaching or players did zach wilson, johnny manziel , josh rosen, jimmy clausen, brock osweiler play with? Yet you're still able to understand that those guys were overwhelmed and can't play at that level just like sam darnold. In 56 games he's thrown 56 interceptions and fumbled the ball 38 times he's a turnover machine he sucks he should haven never been drafted that high. Im betting a 100 dollars every game on a darnold turnover and when it hits every week I'll laugh and think about your comments.
