Personally, I didn't mind filler episodes or arcs that focused on various missions, because one of the main ways a Ninja Village gets money is by sending Ninja out to do missions for other villages, yet the main canon rarely shows us these missions after the Land of Waves Arc.
I agree with that but it's frustrating to be in the middle of an arc and have 3 filler arcs in the middle of it, sometimes two back to back, before you can finish the canon arc.
@@DakotaTooNinja people hated bleach count arc but that's why I liked that and why I would probably watch naruto part 1 filler when I rewatch, it doesn't feel as abrupt being in the middle of a story compared to it being at the end of an arc and like things that happen when were not watching the actual story of the show
@@kireharvey6844 the war arc in Naruto that happens. The bount arc is my least favorite arc in bleach filler and not, but I love bleach so it's still very high. In my experience most Naruto fillers are very good. I just dont want to see that shit while Madara and Night Guy were just fighting last episode.
@@kireharvey6844 actually in my circle of friends that was considered one of the few good filler arcs. I personally really liked it as well I thought it was quite well done and had good characters amazing music the post sole society ark once the fighting starts the animation is just outstanding the fights were amazing.
Especially the fillers that involved Team Guy/Asuma/Kurenai, it just makes Naruto’s camaraderie with the rest of Konoha 12 more believable by the end of the story.
Agree but i think that was because the sound 4 (genins with steroids essentially) at state 2 were "high" jounin level as they fought Genma and the other dude, Anko being a jounin would be at a really high level among the other jounins. Pretty much top 3 behind Guy and Kakashi

And Anko wasnt actually a Jonin, she is a chunin with jonin level skill in one particular specialized field hence "special jonin". Her overal level of power was still in the chunin level back when cursed seals were a big thing.
Honestly the reason i think Yugao was forgotten about was BECAUSE she was an Anbu. They are basically the Storm Troopers of the leaf village. It's sad though, as Hayate's demise, and then her fighting his reanimated corpse gave her a definite purpose..only for her to fade into the background.

Storm Troopers (I am assuming you mean Star Wars, Storm Troopers are actually a popular sci fi name and even was used in the real life German Army but whatever.) are sort of like your Seals or Berets. They are just ‘elite’. The Anbu are basically Ninja CIA so a more apt comparison would be the Inquisitors, the Sith Interrogators and Hunters basically. That said, I pretty much agree with everything else you said. Alot of Naruto Characters were forgotten, some worse then others. We actually probably know more about the ‘unmasked’ Anbu, then we do about the ‘masked’ ones, to be honest. Which is sad, because that slot is competing for literally any main teacher figure we see in Part 1 and 2.
@@twenty-fifth420 I think Storm Troopers are a good comparison because even in the first Star Wars movie episode IV they were said to have incredible skill and precision but due to being no name characters they can’t fight back against Plot Armor and get often one shot but sometimes a good member will rise but likely will just leave the order both Storm Troopers and The Anbu could relate to what I just said but in the hierarchy of The Leaf Village and The Galactic Empire they do serve different purposes
@@KurapikaStan Using ‘Plot Armor’ is a meta narrative excuse. By that logic, most Anbu suck compared to the Jonin we see simply because they are not influential to the plot. You could say the same for the Troopers, but they are meant to be nameless but still also maintain a serious threat presence. They also do not have genetic or magical powers. They are not ‘elites who get one shot by those with plot armor’. They are just elites unless you are a Jedi or Sith, who always did well against Blasters from the front. You could argue Kishimoto wanted them to be this way, but the Anbu do not have the plot presence the Troopers had, who were main villains even the main crew struggled with many times. So no, your meta narrative explaination is inconsistent with the two worlds comparisons. I chose Inquisitors because they are both covert ops in universe. Plain and simple. Your argument is essentially “well thinking outside the universe, both are fodder and lose to top tiers in one shot despite their reputation’. Which is as uneventful as it is uninspiring for a worldbuilding analysis. Edit: Also I genuinely do not mean to sound ‘like a dick’. I like both worlds, probably Star Wars alot more and I think Naruto is the weakest worldbuilt imho of the Big 3, buuuut I also realize that this is kind of subjective. An alternative neither seems to work as well. You could say then the Royal Guard from Star Wars works too, since the Kage technically do order the Anbu on super secret, top level Village stuff. I genuinely do not want to appear condescending, but Kishimoto really did better with building the idea of the Villages rather then their military governance and culture imho.
@@twenty-fifth420 you bring up a good point about The Storm Trooper comparison but I feel that The Inquisitor approach is a bit skewed as they serve more as Mini Bosses rather then Elite Task Force both in a in universe approach and out they are bosses as they can do whatever they want assuming they get the job done and they were to command any officer power to them to get the job done and in a writing perspective as they whenever they’re in a story serve as the Bosses right before The Final Boss They are basically like The Akatsuki to be honest and I feel that the Anbu best fit The Purge Troopers when you see a Jedi the people going to fight them is most likely gonna be The Purge Troopers or The Inquisitors and since they often have Purge Troopers as backup it’s almost always The Purge Troopers their an Elite Task Force made to fight and usually kill high value targets their made from The Best of The Best and have many weaponry devoted to hunting Jedi I feel they make a lot more sense then both
It's one of the few fillers where Hinata, Kiba and Shino actually get to do something. Guren and Yukimaru also have a pretty neatly developed relationship that carries the whole filler. And some of the minor villains in this filler had interesting designs

Berating Guren because she’s affiliated with Orochimaru DESPITE all the time and effort he’s spent on Sasuke - who willingly left them to join Orochimaru because they all berated him for his feelings. Which, don’t forget, was also hypocritical because they flat out helped Shikamaru get revenge after condemning Sasuke about it. Sasuke left in the end because they all told him to forget about it.
honestly for me it's cannon, i saw this arc on tv and i really enjoyed it. i never got mad over fillers since it's more screentime for the whole crew (even tho some are really useless i admit) and it never really hindered long running shows. i'd take fillers anyday over trash movies, pointless ecchi/fanservice oavs, delays, multiple years between seasons etc ...
Honestly her story line, if done in part 1 , would have been an AMAZING introduction to Danzo ( who never appears in part 1 ) and would have also been an introduction to Yamato and maybe a young in-training Sai seen briefly
this is why I kinda wish some series would have a "re-imagined/re-mastered" edition. with serialized manga, the author rarely knows exactly where the plot is going, and there is always some element of making certain things up as they go. after its completed, Im sure a lot of authors look back and think about how certain things could have been tied together better if they knew the full scope of the story when they were writing the earlier parts

SAO had a lot of moments where the editors rushed the author to move the story, much like Naruto meaning to do another arc or two of regular missions before the Chuunan exams. The SAO author, after getting some later arcs out, has been rewriting the beginning to fill in the sections that were skipped, which doubles as a means of fixing the pacing problems viewers typically had with season 1.
i think this a product of kishimoto's ability to make interesting characters in a short screen time. his side characters are so interesting than other series's side characters, that had the same amount of screen time, that fans confuse wanting more from them as missed opportunities.
Indeed, though in my mind it's better to have the impression of a much larger world then to spell it out; I found Bleach's war arcs deathly slow because it insisted on showing every side characters war arc in full. In fact, Bleach had three war arcs, 4 including the full bringer arc, 5 if counting the Hallow Wound, and the Shinigami arc counted as a 6th. Some of those arcs are remembered as incredible, but particular I started getting really bored of dedicating entire chapters to characters I didn't give a rat's arse about. By it's end the story only really incidentally featured Ichigo occasionally, and it's climaxes to most of it's arcs were uninspired in my opinion. It had used all it's narrative ammo on a bunch of basically immortal gods that I frankly couldn't associate with I felt with Naruto that for most part that it knew the story it wanted to tell *while* including compelling characters who felt well rounded. Sure, it didn't always work out, particularly for the women (Tenten literally never did anything on panel. lol), but I never felt short changed nor did any character outlive their welcome. So even the characters who I didn't really mind never really lingered longer then they needed to.
Being forgotten is yet another thing Anko shares with Yugao on top of wanting vengeance against the hidden sound (Orochimaru) and having purple hair. It’s really a shame since both of these characters have really cool designs and interesting plot setups. I feel like the original genin teams should’ve been completely dissolved once they became Chuunin so that there would’ve been more freedom in mixing and matching between personalities and fighting abilities much like the dreaded 100+ ocean of filler at the end of the original show did. At the very least, the squad that went to Tenshi Bridge should’ve included Anko or Yugao and a tracker like Kiba or Shino (to make up for excluding him during the first Sasuke retrieval mission). After all, why couldn’t Yugao be the wood style user? We didn’t spend enough time with her in Part 1 to see anything preventing her from having wood style in Part 2. She would’ve been an awesome replacement for Kakashi considering that they were actually friends.
Anko has an awesome filler where she basically arrests the guy who helped orochimaru develop the curse mark. Naruto even has a transformation in the arc
Maybe a big ask, but since you are watching Naruto fillers anyway: Why not rank them? Would be very interesting to see how many fillers are Rank S, A, B ... and be reintroduced to the more forgotten ones.
Re-posting my comment here where I've mentioned most of the arcs and those which are worth watching. While some of the filler arcs are worth watching the majority are just awful.. particuarly in Naruto all the fillers after the Sasuke retrieveal arc are trash. It's like they forgot all the progress Naruto made in his fight with Sasuke and he joes the exact same thing every time... Kage Bushin, gets beaten, repeat. That said that there are a few worth watching: Naruto 101 Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face! - This one story is hilarious and definitely worth watching. Naruto 102-106 Land of Tea - this is ok, it further shows Narutos development with Rasengan and Sasuke giving in to hate. Naruto 136-140 Deep Cover!? A Super S-Ranked Mission! First arc after the main story ends this is the first search for Orichimaru & Sasuke and is decent arc. After this I have very few memories of eps worth watching till Naruto ended. The fillers went downhill fast and soon became just plain awful, If you like Anko then her story is a short arc which sheds a bit of light on her and Orichimaru, the final arc with Gaara is decent, and I think one other arc which I beleive revolved around a Shinobi using the Lightning sword of the 7 Shinobi Swordsmen is decent. Shippuden 57-71 This arc may be interesting it the 12 shinobi arc that the guy mentioned in the video but for me it's too long and kinda boring.. also it takes place right in the middle of Narutos training which is just stupid as the timing doesn't work. Shippuden 91-112 3 Tails arc - Long but worth watching althouth the Kid repeating his same line over and over again gets old really fast. Shippuden 144-151 6 Tails arc - Not a lot here.. a bit of backstory about Ukataka, if any of it is worth watching it's the last episode where we see Pain capturing Ukataka. Shippuden 170-171 trash Shippuden 176-196 A long series of mostly single eps which are mostly trash. We see some of the efforts to rebuild Konoha here but mostly can be skipped. Shippuden 223-242 another long series of singular eps which are mostly trash, focused around Narutos sea Journey Somehow he manages to meet up half of his colleauges along the way who were able to catch him up over land and somehow be in the same place for a coincedental meeting. 234 & 242 are worth watching. Shippuden 257-260 pointless retelling of old events. Shippuden 271 don't remember but think it's a pointless flashback during the war. Shippuden 279-281 pointless war filler Shippuden 284-289 These are worth watching, the are about how Kakashis unit took out the remaining 7 Shinobi Swordsmen. Shippuden 290-295 Don't remember Shippuden 303-320 Various war fillers including the Yugao filler from this vid. Shippuden 347-361 Kakashi: Shadow of the ANBU Black Ops One of the best fillers arcs. Definitely worth watching Shippuden 376-377 Mecha Naurto - never watched it as it seemed ridiculous Shippuden 388-390 Badly timed filler but a really food story on Hinata and Hanabi. Definitely worth watching. Shippuden 394-413 Long arc about how Sakura and the other Genin became Chunin worth wathcing but not in the middle of the war as it's so long. It also includes the Jinchuuriki Fu and her capture. Don't really remember any after this and the story becomes constantly disrupted due to the fillers which is annoying. Shippuden 451-458 is Itachis backstory which is possibly my favroute filler arc and absolutely worth watching.
@@markoconnor7163 Thanks man. I actually really enjoy most of the fillers prier to Shippuden. Honestly the biggest problem isn't the fact that a bad skippable filler pops up every now and then. The greater issue is all of those 90 % filler 10 % canon episodes. I believe The Search for Tsunade Arc is the go to example for this (but I haven't watched it in a while).

The song is fine, listened to it before replying, don't know what more to say about it... Fits the story and tone but not something I would add to a playlist. I just read through the Chunin arc again and I remember think "who the heck is this lady? I dont remember her at all" and now I know why. She seemed interesting, so its a shame that she didn't get much screen time
Its honestly frustrating not getting more from the more interesting characters. Even the akatsuki couldve gotten more time. The sudden flip from orochimaru to them was crazy lol
Ever since I first saw her I was hoping she get more screen time. Sadly she never did. It is sad because not only she, but the ANBU in general are so interesting. You could do so much with them!! Nah instead we can show sasuke crying about his clan, his brother, the village or what ever makes him cry in the episodes. It changes a lot
It’s sad how she was handled because she has such a cool and unique design and had enough moments and things going for her to be a good potential secondary character, but like most of the grown women in part 1 of Naruto like Shizune, Anko and Kurenai, she had to get done dirty because Kishimoto didn’t know how to write females at the time other than Tsunade.
"...close to Hayate..." That is a bit of a understatement, as they were lovers. Anyway, I totally agree, her character is one of the most wasted in the entire story.
I think fillers have had a great impact on the show, it has given a lot of hilarious as well as emotional moments. Many anime canon/filler arc (i think they're considered like that but idk) have been pillars to future manga canon arcs.
For this one instance, Kishimoto’s forgetfulness sorta pays off. In a way that highlights one of the biggest themes in Naruto, and thats ninjas and their mental health. Her quest for vengeance ended when she got stressed from holding her own blade. Many other characters such as Kakashi, (all the Uchihas almost lmao), Pain, (the important Hyuuga’s), and many others damn near the whole cast. I honestly praise Kishimoto and his team’s accurate dedication and depiction for exploring this theme throughout the entire story. Its very inspiring and honest and open, and its done in a healthy way that sorta brings awareness to these issues by not treating them as a joke or a silly plot thread but for something each of them needs to overcome.
Or that island with a fucking uzumaki girl who actually uses sealing jutsus. Or how about that girl from the kurama clan who straight up kill anyone she wants with her genjutsi. Those were cool arcs
One of my favorite parts of the naruto anime was the filler arc including the three tails and a crystal used it gave us more moments from other characters and gave us good moments with naruto
I agree with you saying that there are some gems in the fillers. I gotta say, my all time favorite was definitely Tsunade’s dream arc. It answers a lot of “what if” questions that I had throughout the series like what if the uchiha clan massacre never happened and if Naruto’s parents didn’t die upon Naruto’s birth. Seeing what could have been was weirdly heartwarming. Absolutely loved that arc.
I love the tsunade dream arc, I just wish the part one aspect of it was sped up a bit and that extra time with given to the part 2 portion because it ends pretty abruptly
There is also the Chunin exam arc which features Fuu (Seven-Tails' jinchuriki) which is very welcomed and worth watching I think in case of you're curious to know what actually happened and to discover Fuu's character since she doesn't appear anywhere else I believe. The only problem is it happened at the worst moment, in the middle of the 4th Great ninja war during the infinite tsukuyomi so it's totally random but still.
It was before Infinite Tsukuyomi, it was right after Madara came back to life & left both Naruto & Sasuke to die as he became 10 Tails Jinchuriki. Fu also appears when Naruto meets the Jinchuriki & Tailed Beasts during the war. After the Chunin Exam Filler Arc you have Guy fight Madara using Gate of Death while Obito & Sakura are healing Naruto & Kabuto is healing Sasuke. Madara then took Kakashi's Sharingan & used it to get Obito's Rinnegan which he then used to start the Infinite Tsukuyomi which gave us more filler.
Oh yeah, I think you're right, there was also fillers at this moment, I totally forgot. That's probably an even worse moment all things considered...It doesn't make a big difference anyway, it's around the same period, the 4th Great Ninja war in the phase where Juubi is awakened, just before Naruto and Sasuke six path's fight against Juubidara and the infinite tsukuyomi. Also obviously I meant Fuu's real appearance as her own character and alive. The Fuu we see when Naruto meets the Tailed Beasts is just a mind controlled revived Fuu and she appears with other jinchurikis to Naruto as a mental image. If you go that way you didn't mention we also meet Fuu during another short filler story that indeed happens during the infinite tsukuyomi this time and including all the jinchurikis dressed as samurai which is the Killer Bee's infinite tsukuyomi dream. The Chunin exam arc is the one where you pretty much discover Fuu as a real character in detail.
@@kyurei4478 Well I didn't mention her appearance in Killer B Rappuden Part 2 because of it more likely being a dream recreation rather than her actual consciousness. I agree the Chunin Exam Filler really developed her in detail though. Also even if it wasn't really her it was nice that her friendship with Gaara was kept when she appeared in Killer B's dream.
@BookMew I mean yes but you still mentionned her appearance during the 4th ninja war in Naruto's fight against the jinchurikis in their jinchuriki's form, while it wasn't her actual consciousness either since she was mind controlled. The Chunin Exam is just the arc that really develops her character yes. I agree though it was a nice touch seeing this little fan service of all jinchurikis united that kept previously installed relationships.
I always liked her design and I always wanted more from the anbu I dont think they should do a saruto but if they do I think maybe he/she should be anbu, it would be different

Might be just me but the 12 Guardian Ninja Arc feels like a seamless storyline before reaching the Akatsuki Suppression Arc, especially for Asuma's character. Almost like it was made for him but not too much to give off he's being given so much dedicated time.
I remember using Yugao a lot in Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 and 3 and I was shocked to even see her as an actual Anbu rather than game exclusive like some characters. I'd wish her story was canon because there are a lot of ninjas that had really good design.
I support her as the next Hokage since her story is basically Tsunade's story. Well, aside from the part where Tsunade was a war hero and got famous, but the part we do see in the show is pretty much the same.
you could tell just through out the series she played some sort of important role, but it was never shown. it's unfortunate, really, cause she seems like she would have been an awesome addition. the fact of the matter is, with the naruto series, it's biggest issue was there was far too many characters and it showed with alot of them pushed to the background......deep DEEP into the background.
The kakashi and yamato filler were some of my favorite parts of Shippuden. That and Anbu stuff really flesh out the leaf village in darker shades which i love
Stuff like this is why I'm not for hating on filler in totality, another example is for characters that don't get a lot of screen time otherwise. A good example of that is one of my favorite characters, Tenten...she got shafted in canon with very little being done for her character outside of filler which is where some things happened for her and showed off what she could do. The anime though did treat her better than the canon manga which...well..in the manga she gets even LESS panel time than she does screen time in the anime. A whole lot of filler may not be a good thing but some filler to help characters get more development than they normally would if you just strictly followed the canon source is not a bad thing.
I really liked the Utakata filler arc because it showed us a glimpse of another Jinchuriki besides Naruto, Gaara and Killer B. It sucks how little we know about the other tailed beasts and the Jinchurikis even though from character design alone, they feel like they'd have more story relevance.
Agreed there's some filler and I'm glad Yugao got something. She seemed cool. Also I think her being in anbu in pain invasion but not the war arc is fine. The Konoha crush to Pain arc is like 3 years. Seems reasonable she'd try for 3 years before giving up. And then there's like 10 months til the war arc for her to have quit the anbu but joined the war as a normal jonin.
The best kind of filler is the filler that builds upon preexisting events and characters. The problem with most filler is that its either boring, self-contained arcs with random new characters and places or dragging out canon events and fights with flashbacks and long shots. Filler should add upon the original story by fleshing out characters who were underdeveloped in the original story or showcasing events we never got to see.
Naruto fillers are goated some made really sense and gave more depth to many characters such as asuma yahiko shino itachi gaara neji Sakura Hinata kakashi yamato hayate sand village yutakata mist village fuu etc
Yugao wasn;t the anbu defending Tsunade in Pein arc in the manga. The female anbu in the manga was called Gazeru who was replaced by Yugao in the anime
One of the other underrated forgotten characters is Sora. The Pseudo Jinchuuriki. I really wished they made him canon. He could have been the key to restore Kurama back to life.
Really liked this vid. Its sad i can barely remember these fillers since i watched Naruto back in like 2014-2015. Edit: I also fondly remember the three tails and six tails arcs. Well, vaguely but still enjoyed them. It was nice to see more of the beasts and learn about the jinchurikis since we never had time in source to really learn of them.
Baki makes an appearance in the Gaara Hinden novel. In the book he is acknowledged as the sand siblings sensei and not just a jonin assigned on their mission when they are first introduced in the Manga. In the novel Baki decapitated 10 people at once using his blade of wind technique. He is also a senior member on the hidden sand council. It is implied that he helped lead the village during the time between gaara father dying and Gaara formally taking over. It was Baki that sent the sand siblings to help with the sound four. He also was the one who made the call to have Gaara retreat from the arena during the chunin exams, which was a wise decision.
I had this thought a few weeks ago actually when I was rewatching through Naruto and Shippuden this is how Kishimoto should of used Yugao imo. Okay so you know how by the first time we see Sasuke again in Shippuden he's like a master swordsman even though there was like no indication that he had any proficiency with Kenjutsu in part one whatsoever. Well what if instead of training with kakashi Yugao kinda does what Jiriya did to Ebisu (in regards to Naruto's training) and takes him under her wing as an apprentice. They could have it where kakashi tells Sasuke how to do the chidori so he kinda still knows how to do it but he's not great at controlling it cause most of his training was spent developing his swordsman skills and over the course of there train Yugao and Sasuke could develope a bond over there shared loss of the ones they love. This would also give Sasuke even more reason to go back to being good later on like she could give up her quest for revenge because she learns about the cycle of hatred from Naruto that would start if she went through with it so later during the war arc they could have a confrontation where Yugao tries to help Sasuke see the truth about revenge not bringing you happiness and just leaving you empty and broken inside.
Wow Great I so agree with this Story 💘 Just like Yamato and Kakashi trained Naruto similarly Yugao and Kakashi could have trained Sasuke in a different time Both Yugao and Sasuke could have got more screen time and a parallel story would have been in screen
Do y'all remember Guren from the 3 tails filler in early shippuden, she was one of the few female characters in that point of the story where her character was actually really interesting and well done I'd say, and she was a filler character
That arc has some major plot holes though after we get into the boruto era. That kid in the three tails arc is the yagura’s son and kagura in boruto is yagura’s grandson so he’s likely that kids child
@@austinbevis4266 probably, but again it's filler so we don't know for sure, the only things I really took away from that arc was the stuff on the 3 tails and Guren's whole character, in my opinion she's better than one of the moreso known female characters in the main source material, and Guren's not even from the manga, I can confidently say that more people would likely know who TenTen is or Ino or Temari over Guren, and aside from maybe Temari, Guren is better than all of them
I was watching boruto today and they referenced a whole filler episode and I remembered it and it was like a moment where the filler just kinda made it make sense.. it was the death of one of the 7 swordsmen of the mist
Yes, there's a flashback when Gaara is trying to protect Shukaku from Madara where you see some of his past with Bunpuku. 8 Tails (Gyuki) is the 2nd Most Seen Tailed Beast in the series behind Kurama & he has a filler episode with Killer B's Predecessor. Fu (7 Tail Chomei's host) had the Chunin Exam Filler right after half of Kurama was extracted from Naruto. Utakata had a filler Arc right before the Pain Arc.
In a game called Clash of ninja revolution 3 both yugao and baki are playable characters, and if you have them face each other, yugao has some interesting dialogue with him. I say interesting, but it's not much her intro she doesn't actually say anything and when you hit with her super, she actually says, "revenge... For Hayate." And that is the extent of her dialogue.
I think that filler can be good if it is used to flesh out the world, lore, and supporting cast---given that the main canon can only cover so much before it bogs down the pace of the story. I personally think that what would work is an approach similar to the old Star Wars Expanded Universe (today known as Star Wars Legends), where you have one main story told by the main author (George Lucas with Star Wars, Masashi Kishimoto with Naruto), and then a bunch of different authors telling their own stories (usually in the form of light novels, as well as manga side stories, movies, video games, OVAs, radio dramas, etc.) set in the same universe as the main continuity, with elements periodically adapted into the main story, and, if continuity is at all an issue, a hierarchy of canonicity with the main story receiving top priority.
I'll be honest I did a rewatch of the entire series recently with the express purpose to watch all the filler and I personally loved all the filler except the mushroom boat one xD I find myself more skipping Kaguya while from what I see most Naruto fans are disappointed with Kaguya
I honestly don't mind filler at all so long as it is handled competently. I feel like an ideal way to go about it is to give the manga time to get significantly ahead between major story arcs and fill in the gap inbetween with filler. Then when the manga is far enough ahead, go ahead and progress the main story. While not without downsides, the main benefit of handling it like this is that you wouldn't interrupt the main narrative with unrelated filler that annoys the audience waiting to see plot threads getting fleshed out. I feel like there's four different types of filler that these gaps could be filled with. The first and most annoying are catch up arcs. These would be a brief collection of episodes dedicated to catching new viewers up with the canon story so far, and should probably air right before getting back into the main story. The second is disconnected one-off stories such as gag episodes or character centric stories. Third is "Meanwhile" type events telling stories that happen parallel to the recent events of the main story. Finally the fourth is "Sequel" type events that act as an unofficial continuation of recent events that are structured carefully so as to not risk contradicting the main story once it returns. They would have to carefully maintain the status quo established at the end of the recent main story arc without making any kind of substantial revelations or character development or etc. By handling it like this, you are inevitably ensuring that the anime is always significantly behind the manga. However, the tradeoff is that the canon events of each major story arc are able to be left intact without annoying interruptions partway through and it becomes more neat and organized in regards to what is canon and what is filler without too much intermingling between the two. I feel it would make for a more satisfying watch for those who either have to or choose to watch through the filler, while also making it easy for those watching later to simply skip the filler in favor of the canon story.
There may be an agreement between the studio and the writer on some characters, to make an original filler for the anime. What makes this thing more likely is the numbering on the members of the kara, but some of them are original to the anime and did not appear in the manga, but are mentioned in the events of the manga canon
Been watching Shippuden on and off since 2012 and I’m still trying to sift through all the fillers I’m done watching all the manga adaptations still working through The Tsukoyomi fillers and the light novel fillers.
Personally some of the fillers helps fill in the blanks. After all there have been times where the anime and the manga were rushed, that and the other does not exactly know how to write female characters well.
In my cannon story line, all of the filler episodes between Naruto - Naruto shippuden are just a fever dream of naruto after drinking too much spoiled milk
I didn't watch most of the fillers, but I did appreciate this video. And I kind of which I got to watch the 3 tails filler arc. That one actually seemed interesting. One of my criticisms of the fillers is that they tend to portray more traditional values. Ie woman would be more feminine and take on more traditional tasks rather than demonstrating their skills as shinobi and fighters. I mean they are in a militaristic organization after all. That is their skill set and what they've spent their lives training for. Even the main boruto series when Sakura and Hinata basically became housewives instead of active shinobi, I feel like that really detracts from the series and the message it could be sending. I had two parents in the military and there were often times when both of them would be working extreme hours and they would have to find me a babysitter or someone to stay with in the early hours before going to school. It was hard, but they made it work. And I ended up becoming self sufficient at a much early age than many of my classmates.
Sakura was clearly a working mother if you watch Boruto's 1st Season including filler. Also what's wrong with having traditional values & being feminine? You forget that Ninja weren't as much in demand during Naruto's reign as Hokage, is it any surprise that Hinata became a housewife rather than go after whatever random missions were left? Tenten opened up a store for that reason of so much peace & stability that good missions were gone.

One thing I don't like about fillers that extend the story are that they are limited by what new things they can create (since they prob don't have the time and resources to create something that will fully be confirmed by kishimoto) One of the biggest sins of that example in my opinion is the filler for Indra and Asura. The fillers straight up got them to use "rasengan-like" ability and "chidori-like" ability, but it doesn't make sense that they would be using rasengan and chidori. Similarly, konohamaru learning rasengan and being skilled in shadow clone jutsu also was weird
You forgot to mention her involvement in the filler arc from 2008 Wii game Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2. The game execution was a bit cringe. But the story itself wasn’t too bad, especially the ex Anbu Kagura. She’s super cool, with genjutsu pretty just below Shisui standards.
Overall i like your video but i feel the reason the character and other characters aren't explored is because it's hard to focus on them because of time constraints and the editors. It's hard to pay off a scene or two if they aren't relevant enough to warrant it
Naruto would have been GREAT if done in a comic book style where you have the main book and story, but each tean gets their own comic and story and if you read it all you get the full picture but if you only read the main story, it’s still the full thing. the other books would show the in-between
That 3 tails beast story arc is not canon? I didnt know. What about 6 tails beast arc, is that canon? They don't feel like filler at all since there's a tailed beast involved.
You correctly point out that the ANBU are more of a plot device to show you how strong other characters are rather than to accomplish anything themselves. This is what we call "weak writing" in a show that doesn't have a substantially deep writer. Contrast with A Song of Fire and Ice or Attack on Titan where nothing is forgotten, anything and everything may or may not matter, but what does happen is not "random" or non sensical. It is also no mistake when Kishimoto fails to make a female character relevant to the plot. That is all of them.
Naruto is one of the anime that has more character developments than any other anime, where even side of side characters have development, so eventually there will be characters who don’t get this treatment and she’s one of them. And I’m ok with that.
Personally, I didn't mind filler episodes or arcs that focused on various missions, because one of the main ways a Ninja Village gets money is by sending Ninja out to do missions for other villages, yet the main canon rarely shows us these missions after the Land of Waves Arc.
I agree with that but it's frustrating to be in the middle of an arc and have 3 filler arcs in the middle of it, sometimes two back to back, before you can finish the canon arc.
@@DakotaTooNinja people hated bleach count arc but that's why I liked that and why I would probably watch naruto part 1 filler when I rewatch, it doesn't feel as abrupt being in the middle of a story compared to it being at the end of an arc and like things that happen when were not watching the actual story of the show
@@kireharvey6844 the war arc in Naruto that happens. The bount arc is my least favorite arc in bleach filler and not, but I love bleach so it's still very high. In my experience most Naruto fillers are very good. I just dont want to see that shit while Madara and Night Guy were just fighting last episode.
@@kireharvey6844 actually in my circle of friends that was considered one of the few good filler arcs. I personally really liked it as well I thought it was quite well done and had good characters amazing music the post sole society ark once the fighting starts the animation is just outstanding the fights were amazing.
Especially the fillers that involved Team Guy/Asuma/Kurenai, it just makes Naruto’s camaraderie with the rest of Konoha 12 more believable by the end of the story.

Agree but i think that was because the sound 4 (genins with steroids essentially) at state 2 were "high" jounin level as they fought Genma and the other dude, Anko being a jounin would be at a really high level among the other jounins. Pretty much top 3 behind Guy and Kakashi

And Anko wasnt actually a Jonin, she is a chunin with jonin level skill in one particular specialized field hence "special jonin". Her overal level of power was still in the chunin level back when cursed seals were a big thing.

Honestly the reason i think Yugao was forgotten about was BECAUSE she was an Anbu. They are basically the Storm Troopers of the leaf village. It's sad though, as Hayate's demise, and then her fighting his reanimated corpse gave her a definite purpose..only for her to fade into the background.

Storm Troopers (I am assuming you mean Star Wars, Storm Troopers are actually a popular sci fi name and even was used in the real life German Army but whatever.) are sort of like your Seals or Berets. They are just ‘elite’.
The Anbu are basically Ninja CIA so a more apt comparison would be the Inquisitors, the Sith Interrogators and Hunters basically.
That said, I pretty much agree with everything else you said. Alot of Naruto Characters were forgotten, some worse then others.
We actually probably know more about the ‘unmasked’ Anbu, then we do about the ‘masked’ ones, to be honest. Which is sad, because that slot is competing for literally any main teacher figure we see in Part 1 and 2.
@@twenty-fifth420 I think Storm Troopers are a good comparison because even in the first Star Wars movie episode IV they were said to have incredible skill and precision but due to being no name characters they can’t fight back against Plot Armor and get often one shot but sometimes a good member will rise but likely will just leave the order both Storm Troopers and The Anbu could relate to what I just said but in the hierarchy of The Leaf Village and The Galactic Empire they do serve different purposes
@@KurapikaStan Using ‘Plot Armor’ is a meta narrative excuse. By that logic, most Anbu suck compared to the Jonin we see simply because they are not influential to the plot.
You could say the same for the Troopers, but they are meant to be nameless but still also maintain a serious threat presence. They also do not have genetic or magical powers. They are not ‘elites who get one shot by those with plot armor’. They are just elites unless you are a Jedi or Sith, who always did well against Blasters from the front.
You could argue Kishimoto wanted them to be this way, but the Anbu do not have the plot presence the Troopers had, who were main villains even the main crew struggled with many times. So no, your meta narrative explaination is inconsistent with the two worlds comparisons.
I chose Inquisitors because they are both covert ops in universe. Plain and simple. Your argument is essentially “well thinking outside the universe, both are fodder and lose to top tiers in one shot despite their reputation’. Which is as uneventful as it is uninspiring for a worldbuilding analysis.
Edit: Also I genuinely do not mean to sound ‘like a dick’. I like both worlds, probably Star Wars alot more and I think Naruto is the weakest worldbuilt imho of the Big 3, buuuut I also realize that this is kind of subjective. An alternative neither seems to work as well. You could say then the Royal Guard from Star Wars works too, since the Kage technically do order the Anbu on super secret, top level Village stuff.
I genuinely do not want to appear condescending, but Kishimoto really did better with building the idea of the Villages rather then their military governance and culture imho.
@@twenty-fifth420 you bring up a good point about The Storm Trooper comparison but I feel that The Inquisitor approach is a bit skewed as they serve more as Mini Bosses rather then Elite Task Force both in a in universe approach and out they are bosses as they can do whatever they want assuming they get the job done and they were to command any officer power to them to get the job done and in a writing perspective as they whenever they’re in a story serve as the Bosses right before The Final Boss They are basically like The Akatsuki to be honest and I feel that the Anbu best fit The Purge Troopers when you see a Jedi the people going to fight them is most likely gonna be The Purge Troopers or The Inquisitors and since they often have Purge Troopers as backup it’s almost always The Purge Troopers their an Elite Task Force made to fight and usually kill high value targets their made from The Best of The Best and have many weaponry devoted to hunting Jedi I feel they make a lot more sense then both

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who enjoyed the "Three Tails Arc".
It's one of the few fillers where Hinata, Kiba and Shino actually get to do something. Guren and Yukimaru also have a pretty neatly developed relationship that carries the whole filler. And some of the minor villains in this filler had interesting designs

I watch it, this filler arc was decent But feels a little force to watch. If fans just skip it and return to the Canon episode it can be confusion.

Berating Guren because she’s affiliated with Orochimaru DESPITE all the time and effort he’s spent on Sasuke - who willingly left them to join Orochimaru because they all berated him for his feelings. Which, don’t forget, was also hypocritical because they flat out helped Shikamaru get revenge after condemning Sasuke about it. Sasuke left in the end because they all told him to forget about it.
honestly for me it's cannon, i saw this arc on tv and i really enjoyed it.
i never got mad over fillers since it's more screentime for the whole crew (even tho some are really useless i admit) and it never really hindered long running shows.
i'd take fillers anyday over trash movies, pointless ecchi/fanservice oavs, delays, multiple years between seasons etc ...
Honestly her story line, if done in part 1 , would have been an AMAZING introduction to Danzo ( who never appears in part 1 ) and would have also been an introduction to Yamato and maybe a young in-training Sai seen briefly

this is why I kinda wish some series would have a "re-imagined/re-mastered" edition. with serialized manga, the author rarely knows exactly where the plot is going, and there is always some element of making certain things up as they go. after its completed, Im sure a lot of authors look back and think about how certain things could have been tied together better if they knew the full scope of the story when they were writing the earlier parts

SAO had a lot of moments where the editors rushed the author to move the story, much like Naruto meaning to do another arc or two of regular missions before the Chuunan exams. The SAO author, after getting some later arcs out, has been rewriting the beginning to fill in the sections that were skipped, which doubles as a means of fixing the pacing problems viewers typically had with season 1.

i think this a product of kishimoto's ability to make interesting characters in a short screen time. his side characters are so interesting than other series's side characters, that had the same amount of screen time, that fans confuse wanting more from them as missed opportunities.

Indeed, though in my mind it's better to have the impression of a much larger world then to spell it out; I found Bleach's war arcs deathly slow because it insisted on showing every side characters war arc in full. In fact, Bleach had three war arcs, 4 including the full bringer arc, 5 if counting the Hallow Wound, and the Shinigami arc counted as a 6th. Some of those arcs are remembered as incredible, but particular I started getting really bored of dedicating entire chapters to characters I didn't give a rat's arse about. By it's end the story only really incidentally featured Ichigo occasionally, and it's climaxes to most of it's arcs were uninspired in my opinion. It had used all it's narrative ammo on a bunch of basically immortal gods that I frankly couldn't associate with
I felt with Naruto that for most part that it knew the story it wanted to tell *while* including compelling characters who felt well rounded. Sure, it didn't always work out, particularly for the women (Tenten literally never did anything on panel. lol), but I never felt short changed nor did any character outlive their welcome. So even the characters who I didn't really mind never really lingered longer then they needed to.
Also the fact that he, quite frankly, doesn’t know how to write women.

Being forgotten is yet another thing Anko shares with Yugao on top of wanting vengeance against the hidden sound (Orochimaru) and having purple hair. It’s really a shame since both of these characters have really cool designs and interesting plot setups. I feel like the original genin teams should’ve been completely dissolved once they became Chuunin so that there would’ve been more freedom in mixing and matching between personalities and fighting abilities much like the dreaded 100+ ocean of filler at the end of the original show did. At the very least, the squad that went to Tenshi Bridge should’ve included Anko or Yugao and a tracker like Kiba or Shino (to make up for excluding him during the first Sasuke retrieval mission). After all, why couldn’t Yugao be the wood style user? We didn’t spend enough time with her in Part 1 to see anything preventing her from having wood style in Part 2. She would’ve been an awesome replacement for Kakashi considering that they were actually friends.
Anko has an awesome filler where she basically arrests the guy who helped orochimaru develop the curse mark. Naruto even has a transformation in the arc

Would be very interesting to see how many fillers are Rank S, A, B ... and be reintroduced to the more forgotten ones.
Re-posting my comment here where I've mentioned most of the arcs and those which are worth watching.
While some of the filler arcs are worth watching the majority are just awful.. particuarly in Naruto all the fillers after the Sasuke retrieveal arc are trash. It's like they forgot all the progress Naruto made in his fight with Sasuke and he joes the exact same thing every time... Kage Bushin, gets beaten, repeat. That said that there are a few worth watching:
Naruto 101 Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face! - This one story is hilarious and definitely worth watching.
Naruto 102-106 Land of Tea - this is ok, it further shows Narutos development with Rasengan and Sasuke giving in to hate.
Naruto 136-140 Deep Cover!? A Super S-Ranked Mission! First arc after the main story ends this is the first search for Orichimaru & Sasuke and is decent arc.
After this I have very few memories of eps worth watching till Naruto ended. The fillers went downhill fast and soon became just plain awful, If you like Anko then her story is a short arc which sheds a bit of light on her and Orichimaru, the final arc with Gaara is decent, and I think one other arc which I beleive revolved around a Shinobi using the Lightning sword of the 7 Shinobi Swordsmen is decent.
Shippuden 57-71 This arc may be interesting it the 12 shinobi arc that the guy mentioned in the video but for me it's too long and kinda boring.. also it takes place right in the middle of Narutos training which is just stupid as the timing doesn't work.
Shippuden 91-112 3 Tails arc - Long but worth watching althouth the Kid repeating his same line over and over again gets old really fast.
Shippuden 144-151 6 Tails arc - Not a lot here.. a bit of backstory about Ukataka, if any of it is worth watching it's the last episode where we see Pain capturing Ukataka.
Shippuden 170-171 trash
Shippuden 176-196 A long series of mostly single eps which are mostly trash. We see some of the efforts to rebuild Konoha here but mostly can be skipped.
Shippuden 223-242 another long series of singular eps which are mostly trash, focused around Narutos sea Journey Somehow he manages to meet up half of his colleauges along the way who were able to catch him up over land and somehow be in the same place for a coincedental meeting. 234 & 242 are worth watching.
Shippuden 257-260 pointless retelling of old events.
Shippuden 271 don't remember but think it's a pointless flashback during the war.
Shippuden 279-281 pointless war filler
Shippuden 284-289 These are worth watching, the are about how Kakashis unit took out the remaining 7 Shinobi Swordsmen.
Shippuden 290-295 Don't remember
Shippuden 303-320 Various war fillers including the Yugao filler from this vid.
Shippuden 347-361 Kakashi: Shadow of the ANBU Black Ops One of the best fillers arcs. Definitely worth watching
Shippuden 376-377 Mecha Naurto - never watched it as it seemed ridiculous
Shippuden 388-390 Badly timed filler but a really food story on Hinata and Hanabi. Definitely worth watching.
Shippuden 394-413 Long arc about how Sakura and the other Genin became Chunin worth wathcing but not in the middle of the war as it's so long. It also includes the Jinchuuriki Fu and her capture.
Don't really remember any after this and the story becomes constantly disrupted due to the fillers which is annoying.
Shippuden 451-458 is Itachis backstory which is possibly my favroute filler arc and absolutely worth watching.

Honestly the biggest problem isn't the fact that a bad skippable filler pops up every now and then. The greater issue is all of those 90 % filler 10 % canon episodes.
I believe The Search for Tsunade Arc is the go to example for this (but I haven't watched it in a while).

Ever since I first saw her I was hoping she get more screen time. Sadly she never did. It is sad because not only she, but the ANBU in general are so interesting. You could do so much with them!! Nah instead we can show sasuke crying about his clan, his brother, the village or what ever makes him cry in the episodes. It changes a lot

It’s sad how she was handled because she has such a cool and unique design and had enough moments and things going for her to be a good potential secondary character, but like most of the grown women in part 1 of Naruto like Shizune, Anko and Kurenai, she had to get done dirty because Kishimoto didn’t know how to write females at the time other than Tsunade.

I think fillers have had a great impact on the show, it has given a lot of hilarious as well as emotional moments. Many anime canon/filler arc (i think they're considered like that but idk) have been pillars to future manga canon arcs.
Naruto filler is part of its charm, i had some laughing moment so that should be enough for a reason to watch filler.
This is so true, Pierrot's Filler helped make the ending of Narugoat perfect, meaningful and much deeper than the manga!
thats the point, the manga is a blueprint, the anime furthers the core story by adding and adapting extra.

For this one instance, Kishimoto’s forgetfulness sorta pays off. In a way that highlights one of the biggest themes in Naruto, and thats ninjas and their mental health. Her quest for vengeance ended when she got stressed from holding her own blade. Many other characters such as Kakashi, (all the Uchihas almost lmao), Pain, (the important Hyuuga’s), and many others damn near the whole cast. I honestly praise Kishimoto and his team’s accurate dedication and depiction for exploring this theme throughout the entire story. Its very inspiring and honest and open, and its done in a healthy way that sorta brings awareness to these issues by not treating them as a joke or a silly plot thread but for something each of them needs to overcome.
As a manga only person, I always wondered why people kept adding this Yugao person to every fanfic as a major character.... now I understand.
The filler arcs were very good. Crystal style and so many unique Justus.
Or that island with a fucking uzumaki girl who actually uses sealing jutsus. Or how about that girl from the kurama clan who straight up kill anyone she wants with her genjutsi. Those were cool arcs
One of my favorite parts of the naruto anime was the filler arc including the three tails and a crystal used it gave us more moments from other characters and gave us good moments with naruto
I agree with you saying that there are some gems in the fillers. I gotta say, my all time favorite was definitely Tsunade’s dream arc. It answers a lot of “what if” questions that I had throughout the series like what if the uchiha clan massacre never happened and if Naruto’s parents didn’t die upon Naruto’s birth. Seeing what could have been was weirdly heartwarming. Absolutely loved that arc.
I love the tsunade dream arc, I just wish the part one aspect of it was sped up a bit and that extra time with given to the part 2 portion because it ends pretty abruptly
There is also the Chunin exam arc which features Fuu (Seven-Tails' jinchuriki) which is very welcomed and worth watching I think in case of you're curious to know what actually happened and to discover Fuu's character since she doesn't appear anywhere else I believe. The only problem is it happened at the worst moment, in the middle of the 4th Great ninja war during the infinite tsukuyomi so it's totally random but still.
It was before Infinite Tsukuyomi, it was right after Madara came back to life & left both Naruto & Sasuke to die as he became 10 Tails Jinchuriki. Fu also appears when Naruto meets the Jinchuriki & Tailed Beasts during the war. After the Chunin Exam Filler Arc you have Guy fight Madara using Gate of Death while Obito & Sakura are healing Naruto & Kabuto is healing Sasuke. Madara then took Kakashi's Sharingan & used it to get Obito's Rinnegan which he then used to start the Infinite Tsukuyomi which gave us more filler.
Oh yeah, I think you're right, there was also fillers at this moment, I totally forgot. That's probably an even worse moment all things considered...It doesn't make a big difference anyway, it's around the same period, the 4th Great Ninja war in the phase where Juubi is awakened, just before Naruto and Sasuke six path's fight against Juubidara and the infinite tsukuyomi. Also obviously I meant Fuu's real appearance as her own character and alive. The Fuu we see when Naruto meets the Tailed Beasts is just a mind controlled revived Fuu and she appears with other jinchurikis to Naruto as a mental image. If you go that way you didn't mention we also meet Fuu during another short filler story that indeed happens during the infinite tsukuyomi this time and including all the jinchurikis dressed as samurai which is the Killer Bee's infinite tsukuyomi dream. The Chunin exam arc is the one where you pretty much discover Fuu as a real character in detail.
@@kyurei4478 Well I didn't mention her appearance in Killer B Rappuden Part 2 because of it more likely being a dream recreation rather than her actual consciousness. I agree the Chunin Exam Filler really developed her in detail though. Also even if it wasn't really her it was nice that her friendship with Gaara was kept when she appeared in Killer B's dream.

Ironically even now there was 1 Jinchuriki which never got any story, the other hidden stone tailed beast, I think he used steam

Might be just me but the 12 Guardian Ninja Arc feels like a seamless storyline before reaching the Akatsuki Suppression Arc, especially for Asuma's character. Almost like it was made for him but not too much to give off he's being given so much dedicated time.
It actually made asuma a real character and made his death more sad

I remember seeing Yugao in Clash of Ninja revolution 2 and she became an instant favorite character after I played that game.
I remember using Yugao a lot in Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 and 3 and I was shocked to even see her as an actual Anbu rather than game exclusive like some characters. I'd wish her story was canon because there are a lot of ninjas that had really good design.
I really like the Guren filler, mostly because of the music. It was the last piece the season 1 music writer Toshiro Masuda wrote for Naruto.

I support her as the next Hokage since her story is basically Tsunade's story. Well, aside from the part where Tsunade was a war hero and got famous, but the part we do see in the show is pretty much the same.
you could tell just through out the series she played some sort of important role, but it was never shown. it's unfortunate, really, cause she seems like she would have been an awesome addition. the fact of the matter is, with the naruto series, it's biggest issue was there was far too many characters and it showed with alot of them pushed to the background......deep DEEP into the background.

Stuff like this is why I'm not for hating on filler in totality, another example is for characters that don't get a lot of screen time otherwise. A good example of that is one of my favorite characters, Tenten...she got shafted in canon with very little being done for her character outside of filler which is where some things happened for her and showed off what she could do. The anime though did treat her better than the canon manga which...well..in the manga she gets even LESS panel time than she does screen time in the anime. A whole lot of filler may not be a good thing but some filler to help characters get more development than they normally would if you just strictly followed the canon source is not a bad thing.
I really liked the Utakata filler arc because it showed us a glimpse of another Jinchuriki besides Naruto, Gaara and Killer B.
It sucks how little we know about the other tailed beasts and the Jinchurikis even though from character design alone, they feel like they'd have more story relevance.
Agreed there's some filler and I'm glad Yugao got something. She seemed cool. Also I think her being in anbu in pain invasion but not the war arc is fine. The Konoha crush to Pain arc is like 3 years. Seems reasonable she'd try for 3 years before giving up. And then there's like 10 months til the war arc for her to have quit the anbu but joined the war as a normal jonin.
The best kind of filler is the filler that builds upon preexisting events and characters. The problem with most filler is that its either boring, self-contained arcs with random new characters and places or dragging out canon events and fights with flashbacks and long shots. Filler should add upon the original story by fleshing out characters who were underdeveloped in the original story or showcasing events we never got to see.

Yugao wasn;t the anbu defending Tsunade in Pein arc in the manga. The female anbu in the manga was called Gazeru who was replaced by Yugao in the anime
One of the other underrated forgotten characters is Sora. The Pseudo Jinchuuriki. I really wished they made him canon. He could have been the key to restore Kurama back to life.

Edit: I also fondly remember the three tails and six tails arcs. Well, vaguely but still enjoyed them. It was nice to see more of the beasts and learn about the jinchurikis since we never had time in source to really learn of them.
Baki makes an appearance in the Gaara Hinden novel. In the book he is acknowledged as the sand siblings sensei and not just a jonin assigned on their mission when they are first introduced in the Manga. In the novel Baki decapitated 10 people at once using his blade of wind technique. He is also a senior member on the hidden sand council. It is implied that he helped lead the village during the time between gaara father dying and Gaara formally taking over. It was Baki that sent the sand siblings to help with the sound four. He also was the one who made the call to have Gaara retreat from the arena during the chunin exams, which was a wise decision.
I had this thought a few weeks ago actually when I was rewatching through Naruto and Shippuden this is how Kishimoto should of used Yugao imo.
Okay so you know how by the first time we see Sasuke again in Shippuden he's like a master swordsman even though there was like no indication that he had any proficiency with Kenjutsu in part one whatsoever.
Well what if instead of training with kakashi Yugao kinda does what Jiriya did to Ebisu (in regards to Naruto's training) and takes him under her wing as an apprentice.
They could have it where kakashi tells Sasuke how to do the chidori so he kinda still knows how to do it but he's not great at controlling it cause most of his training was spent developing his swordsman skills and over the course of there train Yugao and Sasuke could develope a bond over there shared loss of the ones they love.
This would also give Sasuke even more reason to go back to being good later on like she could give up her quest for revenge because she learns about the cycle of hatred from Naruto that would start if she went through with it so later during the war arc they could have a confrontation where Yugao tries to help Sasuke see the truth about revenge not bringing you happiness and just leaving you empty and broken inside.

That arc has some major plot holes though after we get into the boruto era. That kid in the three tails arc is the yagura’s son and kagura in boruto is yagura’s grandson so he’s likely that kids child
@@austinbevis4266 probably, but again it's filler so we don't know for sure, the only things I really took away from that arc was the stuff on the 3 tails and Guren's whole character, in my opinion she's better than one of the moreso known female characters in the main source material, and Guren's not even from the manga, I can confidently say that more people would likely know who TenTen is or Ino or Temari over Guren, and aside from maybe Temari, Guren is better than all of them

Yes, there's a flashback when Gaara is trying to protect Shukaku from Madara where you see some of his past with Bunpuku. 8 Tails (Gyuki) is the 2nd Most Seen Tailed Beast in the series behind Kurama & he has a filler episode with Killer B's Predecessor. Fu (7 Tail Chomei's host) had the Chunin Exam Filler right after half of Kurama was extracted from Naruto. Utakata had a filler Arc right before the Pain Arc.
Also that one Scientist Lady that liked Shikamaru during the Pain Arc… she was never to be seen again 🤧😭
In a game called Clash of ninja revolution 3 both yugao and baki are playable characters, and if you have them face each other, yugao has some interesting dialogue with him. I say interesting, but it's not much her intro she doesn't actually say anything and when you hit with her super, she actually says, "revenge... For Hayate." And that is the extent of her dialogue.

I think that filler can be good if it is used to flesh out the world, lore, and supporting cast---given that the main canon can only cover so much before it bogs down the pace of the story. I personally think that what would work is an approach similar to the old Star Wars Expanded Universe (today known as Star Wars Legends), where you have one main story told by the main author (George Lucas with Star Wars, Masashi Kishimoto with Naruto), and then a bunch of different authors telling their own stories (usually in the form of light novels, as well as manga side stories, movies, video games, OVAs, radio dramas, etc.) set in the same universe as the main continuity, with elements periodically adapted into the main story, and, if continuity is at all an issue, a hierarchy of canonicity with the main story receiving top priority.
I'll be honest I did a rewatch of the entire series recently with the express purpose to watch all the filler and I personally loved all the filler except the mushroom boat one xD I find myself more skipping Kaguya while from what I see most Naruto fans are disappointed with Kaguya
I honestly don't mind filler at all so long as it is handled competently. I feel like an ideal way to go about it is to give the manga time to get significantly ahead between major story arcs and fill in the gap inbetween with filler. Then when the manga is far enough ahead, go ahead and progress the main story. While not without downsides, the main benefit of handling it like this is that you wouldn't interrupt the main narrative with unrelated filler that annoys the audience waiting to see plot threads getting fleshed out.
I feel like there's four different types of filler that these gaps could be filled with. The first and most annoying are catch up arcs. These would be a brief collection of episodes dedicated to catching new viewers up with the canon story so far, and should probably air right before getting back into the main story. The second is disconnected one-off stories such as gag episodes or character centric stories. Third is "Meanwhile" type events telling stories that happen parallel to the recent events of the main story. Finally the fourth is "Sequel" type events that act as an unofficial continuation of recent events that are structured carefully so as to not risk contradicting the main story once it returns. They would have to carefully maintain the status quo established at the end of the recent main story arc without making any kind of substantial revelations or character development or etc.
By handling it like this, you are inevitably ensuring that the anime is always significantly behind the manga. However, the tradeoff is that the canon events of each major story arc are able to be left intact without annoying interruptions partway through and it becomes more neat and organized in regards to what is canon and what is filler without too much intermingling between the two. I feel it would make for a more satisfying watch for those who either have to or choose to watch through the filler, while also making it easy for those watching later to simply skip the filler in favor of the canon story.
There may be an agreement between the studio and the writer on some characters, to make an original filler for the anime. What makes this thing more likely is the numbering on the members of the kara, but some of them are original to the anime and did not appear in the manga, but are mentioned in the events of the manga canon

Been watching Shippuden on and off since 2012 and I’m still trying to sift through all the fillers I’m done watching all the manga adaptations still working through The Tsukoyomi fillers and the light novel fillers.

Personally some of the fillers helps fill in the blanks. After all there have been times where the anime and the manga were rushed, that and the other does not exactly know how to write female characters well.
Among the goofy filler arcs, my personal favorite is Paradise Life on the Ocean.

I didn't watch most of the fillers, but I did appreciate this video. And I kind of which I got to watch the 3 tails filler arc. That one actually seemed interesting.
One of my criticisms of the fillers is that they tend to portray more traditional values. Ie woman would be more feminine and take on more traditional tasks rather than demonstrating their skills as shinobi and fighters. I mean they are in a militaristic organization after all. That is their skill set and what they've spent their lives training for. Even the main boruto series when Sakura and Hinata basically became housewives instead of active shinobi, I feel like that really detracts from the series and the message it could be sending. I had two parents in the military and there were often times when both of them would be working extreme hours and they would have to find me a babysitter or someone to stay with in the early hours before going to school. It was hard, but they made it work. And I ended up becoming self sufficient at a much early age than many of my classmates.
Sakura was clearly a working mother if you watch Boruto's 1st Season including filler. Also what's wrong with having traditional values & being feminine? You forget that Ninja weren't as much in demand during Naruto's reign as Hokage, is it any surprise that Hinata became a housewife rather than go after whatever random missions were left? Tenten opened up a store for that reason of so much peace & stability that good missions were gone.

Because you say so? It reinforces gender steterotypes for both young boys and young girls. Tells them that women will only be respected as mothers and not members of the workforce. This isn't a housewife "being a boss." This is a manga that kids look up to and apply in their own lives.
Shōnen values are sexist. Period. Women only ever take on traditional roles and if they try to be "stronger" its only because they want to appear so in front of a man. And they always take on the roles of a support class.
And where are the LGBT characters? Face it, shōnen values have always struggled with racism, sexism and homophobia. Even when Naruto/Boruto tries to push the bar, its still sexist.

One thing I don't like about fillers that extend the story are that they are limited by what new things they can create (since they prob don't have the time and resources to create something that will fully be confirmed by kishimoto)
One of the biggest sins of that example in my opinion is the filler for Indra and Asura.
The fillers straight up got them to use "rasengan-like" ability and "chidori-like" ability, but it doesn't make sense that they would be using rasengan and chidori.
Similarly, konohamaru learning rasengan and being skilled in shadow clone jutsu also was weird
You forgot to mention her involvement in the filler arc from 2008 Wii game Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2. The game execution was a bit cringe. But the story itself wasn’t too bad, especially the ex Anbu Kagura. She’s super cool, with genjutsu pretty just below Shisui standards.
Overall i like your video but i feel the reason the character and other characters aren't explored is because it's hard to focus on them because of time constraints and the editors. It's hard to pay off a scene or two if they aren't relevant enough to warrant it

Naruto would have been GREAT if done in a comic book style where you have the main book and story, but each tean gets their own comic and story and if you read it all you get the full picture but if you only read the main story, it’s still the full thing. the other books would show the in-between

No, the animation team put the wrong character in at 6:30 during pein arc. It was supposed to be Gazeru another purple haired female Anbu.
You correctly point out that the ANBU are more of a plot device to show you how strong other characters are rather than to accomplish anything themselves. This is what we call "weak writing" in a show that doesn't have a substantially deep writer. Contrast with A Song of Fire and Ice or Attack on Titan where nothing is forgotten, anything and everything may or may not matter, but what does happen is not "random" or non sensical. It is also no mistake when Kishimoto fails to make a female character relevant to the plot. That is all of them.

Naruto is one of the anime that has more character developments than any other anime, where even side of side characters have development, so eventually there will be characters who don’t get this treatment and she’s one of them. And I’m ok with that.
