Hello from Croatia, another Slavic country. I appreciate your time to react on this video, my blood may be Croat but my heart is Ukrainian, my girlfriend is from Ukraine and I cannot describe the love for that country. Slavs are famous for being extremely patriotic because throughout history we were bullied by bigger world powers and had to fight all the time to keep our territory, language and identity. Ukrainians are dying for their nation, to save their parents, husbands, wives and children. Think of them as modern day Spartans. The sweet death invoked in this prayer is what I think of as Spartans were famous for seeking the glorious death in battle. The prayer itself is a relic of Ukraine's identity as it was written in the early 20th century when Ukrainian nationalists were once again fighting the Russians to preserve their integrity.
The world is big, other countries, more peaceful, are at arm's length. But we have only one country of ours - Ukraine. In any other country, we are guests, refugees, diaspora. Ukraine has been fighting russian dictatorship for centuries. Millions of Ukrainians died because of her - either defending the independence of Ukraine, or because they were simply Ukrainians. These are our roots, we have grown into this land. You listened to the song Yarmak before, it sang 'Great-grandfathers will rise from the earth'. It's not literally about great-grandfathers, it's about ancestors, many generations before us. The significance of Ukraine for Ukrainians is inexpressible, it is our force of attraction and our wings.
Honestly, this prayer is so meaningful to every Ukrainian - if you learn about Ukrainian history, you'll see that we were opressed by russians for centuries, and all of the words are not used figuratively - our people really died in jails, Ukrainian children died of wars and famine on the territory of Ukraine. Our poets, musicians, writers were sent as prisoners and killed far from home. So thanks for showing empathy and your kind sould towards Ukrainians! We deeply appreciate that! For example the yellow-blue flag, that is currently incorrectly placed, was assigned by then Austro-Hungarian Empire, as it forcefully converted West Russians aka Rusins aka Ruthens into "ukrainians". And the Russia has oppressed Ukraine so much, that its territory constantly EXPANDED (compared to what Poland did to them and reasons of Khatyn massacre and that Bandera ultranationalist ideology targeted first Polaks and Jewish and only much later Soviets) and they had largest communist politbureau in entire USSR and largest economy of all soviet republics and two of USSR presidents (general secretaries) were of ukrainian origin. And at all, the term "Ukraine" means simply geographical "BORDERLAND" in Russian. Oh poor victim Ukraine was killed killed killed, them such big victim, that first thing they did when they got INDEPENDENT in 1991 was to SELL every industry and weapon to the west to the extent that HALF of the population migrated away! Even in the usual oath when joining the armed forces, there is a big difference between Ukrainians and Russians. Our soldiers swear allegiance to the people of Ukraine and their protection, while Russian soldiers swear first of all to their state, the Russian Federation and their command. They removed from the oath everything about the prohibition of the use of weapons against their people back in 1999.
There are warriors in "Azov" from different countries, nations, religion but thay have anly one same passion - ukrainian land. Free and happy living on this holy land.

They accept death with all bravery, they know what they are going to do, and they are conscious of their choice. If you happen to die, than not in prison, but on the battlefield. Russians simply don't understand this, they die for money and it's an absolute shame, and this is a sign of backwardness and poverty in their country.

В 1936 році в Львові (на той момент Польща) перед судом постало 27 людей, їх звинувачували в серії вбивств. Це були члени органіщації українських націоналістів, а вбили вони радянського посла і декількох українців і поляків, що допомагали полькій поліції здійснювати репресії проти національного руху українців. Їм загрожувала смертна кара. Оригінал цього тексту був написаний одним із них, кров'ю на стіні тюремної камери. Просто уявіть скільки крові потрібно щоб написати стільки слів... Просто уявіть собі цю картину. Не дивно що текст набув культувого статусу, коли почалась війна націоналісти вийшли з тюрем і почали партизанську війну проти радянських, а згодом і німецьких оккупантів, а текст став військовою присягою, і використовується в цій якості понині. Доречі у автора все склалось добре, його засудили до 15 років ув'язнення, але через 2 роки почалась війна і в'язнів відпустили, він переїхав до Німетчини, а потім в США, став науковцем, помер в 1976 році в Нью-Йорку.

Why the death is sweet? Because it is a noble death, for a noble reason. When you remain a human after all the tortures that russians carry out, it means a lot. Of cos it is hard and unwanted, but sweet is metaphor here. Like a baby sleep- cos you remain noble and innocent before yourself and your people,your country.

Дякую що дивитесь на це не як на шоу, а ставите себе на місце цих людей. Варто пояснити, звідки взявся цей текст. В 1936 році в Львові (на той момент Польща) перед судом постало 27 людей, їх звинувачували в серії вбивств. Це були члени органіщації українських націоналістів, а вбили вони радянського посла і декількох українців і поляків, що допомагали полькій поліції здійснювати репресії проти національного руху українців. Їм загрожувала смертна кара.
Оригінал цього тексту був написаний одним із них, кров'ю на стіні тюремної камери. Просто уявіть скільки крові потрібно щоб написати стільки слів... Просто уявіть собі цю картину.
Не дивно що текст набув культувого статусу, коли почалась війна націоналісти вийшли з тюрем і почали партизанську війну проти радянських, а згодом і німецьких оккупантів, а текст став військовою присягою, і використовується в цій якості понині. Доречі у автора все склалось добре, його засудили до 15 років ув'язнення, але через 2 роки почалась війна і в'язнів відпустили, він переїхав до Німетчини, а потім в США, став науковцем, помер в 1976 році в Нью-Йорку.
