NOTE: While this video took me quite awhile to make (a few hours), I rushed through much of the 'archiso'. A few reasons why my final ISO didn't look quite right were: (1) I didn't add any systemd services to airootfs/etc/systemd which meant my display manager (sddm) didn't start automatically. (2) The scripts that I put in airootfs/etc/skel/.local/bin need to have their permissions set in the profiledef, just like we did for the shadow/gshadow files. I'll have these errors (and more) fixed by the time we add Calamares to the 'archiso', assuming people are interested in that video. Hope this helps you guys that want to go ISO building!

DT, thanks for everything you do, including this last archiso. Very informative, as would a calamares demo be. Another suggestion for exploration would be...
setting up a triple head with Xorg (and maybe even wayland if that even is possible) with a virtual screen of 5760x1080, thus creating one large screen for gamin, for instance, simracing.

Awesome, good job DT, many don't know about this awesome tool! For the last decade or so, I always reinstall by rebuilding ISO instead of downloading one, which besides newer packages, then my script adds e.g auto wifi setup, testing repo, Dropbox support through rclone(retrieve any script I have), and few other tweaks etc. Plus own install/partition script, fully unattended. Thanks for vid!

Hi DT! I know my comment here is a little bit off topic, but I am commenting it here in order to not forget it, and to make it more likely for it to be read by you.
I know you like Tiling Window Managers a lot, and maybe you could appreciate this idea (or not). Well, let me tell it. I guess it would be interesting to have a command line utility to display all programs being run in a TWM and the tagname associated with it.
It would be something like this:
    1 - alacritty
    2 - qutebrowser/alacritty
    3 - audacity/pavucontrol
    and so on...
It could also contain the date/time and all those indicators that people love to see on their statusbars/taskbars.
This could be an interesting workaround for those TWMs which just have no taskbar or have a very limited one (and for those with a very old laptop, with smal lcd screen, where every inch of screen estate means a lot - so they have to disable the taskbar they already have)
What is the main advantage of this: you just have to memorize which tagname your terminal is and from there, issue 'list-twm-tasks' (or something like that) and then you know precisely where to go to with Mod+Number

Yes I want to build my own Linux system, it is an up-to-date version, thank you! Ok, so I have a question at 2:14 if you don't have a cursor, how would you highlight that line? I never saw anybody explaining it. I know everything is faster only on keyboard, but how do you do highlight with keyboard? Because I know you can Tab all the way down there, but it takes so much time and even then I'm stuck there because after that much button smash I think shift plus arrows don't let you highlight it, so I want to know how do you highlight stuff like this in middle of a text without a mouse?

  • @the1trancedemon

this is 1 complicated process. if i could build my own arch iso, it would be simply arch, kde plasma (with some cool themes and customizations), firefox (pre-logged into my favourite sites if possible), libre office etc. i assume this would be live boot so any changes made would disappear on next boot. anyway, something like this with my pre-config could be a neat pocket swiss army knife whereever i go and need to get some work done on any machene. cool stuff. Thanks DT!
