    Quick and Easy Tip: The easiest way for me to cover glass or mirrors is to use a deck of cards. I just slide them in and over lap them. Sometimes I need to use tape to hold the cards together. It's quick and easy and hardly any glass or mirror clean up. It really does keep the paint off these surfaces especially when I am tired and get a bit sloppy with the paint.

    1. Use temporary stencil adhesive. Better seal for less bleeding. 2. First use Mod-Podge or base color with stencil then use your accent color. This preventive layer masks any bleeding. These 2 tips will help greatly with stencil success! In the end those drawer pulls worked wonderfully with the stencil design that you chose. They blended in so well that they almost seemed camouflaged. I hope that you kept this piece since it was your grandmother's. TFS, be 🙏🏼 blessed and stay 😷 safe.

    WOW!! Talk about a labor of love, this is it. I love it! It is so very beautiful. I really love old vanities. I have one that is about 70 years old and I am going to strip it down and leave it natural. It has had several different colors on it. ONe painted on top of the other. It will also be a labor of love. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Take care, stay safe.

    I love what you did to this vanity! My Mom died 2 years ago & I have inherited her vanity with a mirror. I would really like to do this to her vanity. I have done some stenciling so I have no worries there. I have worked in craft stores for many years. I will let you know if I accomplish this. Thank you for sharing your makeover!

    I love the idea of using the Dollar Store make up sponges. The paint seems to go further. For the stencil brush, it needs to be almost dry, so dabbing on several paper towels is what I have always done. You can control your coverage, from barely there to very clear and bold with doing thin layers of paint in stenciling.

    That is STUNNING!! I really want it for myself (and since it was your grandmother's, I hope you will keep it for yourself). I don't think your perfectionism was misplaced at all: it really paid off, as the piece looks realistic without looking slapdash! I think it is great to see you do a variety of different types of furniture and finishings, and not just stick with the simple, slick, sophisticated pieces you do so well, so I am really looking forward seeing what you try next time! Thank you for sharing! ... (edit: oops... I wrote my comment then scrolled down and saw that everyone else said "stunning", "stunning", "STUNNING" too... but it really is!)

    I did this last year but off white over stained wood. It was fine but I need to do it again using a dark blue-ish charcoal. I prefer the wedge make up sponges too, they seem easier to control and rarely seep under the stencil. Plus you don’t have to clean a brush! She’s beautiful, the colour combo was perfect. Thx Katie 👏👏💕

    Well done again. You tackled a complicated piece for a ‘first time’ use of the inlay stencil but it turned out well. As a fellow furniture painter I appreciate the effort put into the prep as well as the base paint layer. You go the extra mile to paint portions of the piece not seen at first glance, i.e. the underside and drawer surrounds.
    I will use your tip of sanding the slider rails on my next piece. Genius. THX.

    Katie nicely done. I would like to mention a couple of steps, I am sure you will come back with an answer of why you did not use it. So this is for others that may try this method. - Lightly spray adhesive on the back of the stencil. Take an old t-shirt or rag and tap the glue so it will not solidly adhere to your piece but stay in place for the painting.. I have scratched many a mirror with a razor. Pop the mirror out of the frame. Another way to protect the mirror is to slide craft paper or parchment paper between the wood and mirror which makes quick work of the dread taping. good luck s

    This is delightful! Doing the inlay on this vanity gives this design a completely different vibe than when it’s done on a piece that’s more modern. The way you’ve done this also allows the vanity to shine. Often, I love the inlay pattern but I can’t actually see the furniture it’s on. I don’t know if that makes sense. I love this and that’s why I enjoy your videos so much. You try so many different things in a unique way. Thank you for another great video and I love the original drawer pulls on this. They’re perfect!🌸

    Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love all of this - the colors, the stencil, just everything. Hint: use paper towels to offload stencil brush. You do better with the sponge as it naturally offloads due to its absorbing nature. The paint soaks up the sponge to your fingers. Just one little dip into pain and swirl the brush on paper towels. Your result will wow you too!! Good luck!!

    So glad to see you again because this slipped my mind. I'm finding some decent Art Deco pieces to work on and some have missing inlays, etc. and wondered if you knew of a decent source for furniture restoration parts. The one I'm working on has a missing bit of teeny narrow dentil molding and the rest is in pretty good shape so I don't want to just remove and fill the space. This vanity is really snazzy with a sort of ocular theme on the hardware and the giant round mirror. I thought to wash it in a deep indigo with the grain showing through.

    • @blackbirdhollow3889
      @blackbirdhollow3889 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve had good results using paper clay to shape smaller bits of missing detail and applying with a good wood glue either before or after drying (although I prefer to glue down before drying as there seems to be a better bond). The stuff is sturdy, dries hard, can be sanded like wood. Perfect for repairs under paint.

    I think the problem with stenciling with a brush is the bristles want to bend outward and under the edges of the stencil no matter what type of stroke you use. And the sponge does the opposite by pressing the stencil down against the piece. Gorgeous!!!

    • @loismaddux4800
      @loismaddux4800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A stencil brush is made and meant to be used by pouncing not brushing which prevents the paint from going under the stencil.

      Stenciling is fun and easy with stenciling brush, make-up sponge and even a foam roller. The most important thing about stenciling is how well the ACTUAL stencil is placed on the surface. Spray adhesive is the best way to keep the stencil flat so it won't move if you do pounce the stencil brush.

    • @conniesisco6468
      @conniesisco6468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When she offloaded using the brush she was offloading onto painter’s tape, which is not at all absorbent. With the sponge she was offloading onto a paper towel which is super absorbent.

Just like a trademark😁) I apply a thin layer of topcoat or poly. Then, if I make a mistake I can just wipe it off with damp rag. Might not work in every case, but for the most part it works just great! 😃👍🏻
