Greetings from great Britain....amen to that....ive got this same guitar in sunburst ( well it was sunburst but it got accidentally burnt..long story involving making a fried egg sandwich whilst stoned in the 80s...i refinished it in nitro red 2 years later and it now looks slightly "Murphy lab"...lol )... they're such fantastic flawless guitars...part of me wishes I'd bought up a couple more when they were quite common...but why be greedy and mine is now 40 odd years old and will see me out...im of the opinion that if this particular model said Fender on the headstock it would be a legendary guitar discused on forums ad nausea...its very under rated...when I got mine ( can you believe I paid £100 for it with a Vox AC30!!! hey it was the 80s man). I actually owned a new 80s fender strat and I sold it as it just wasn't as good as the ibanez....that said I think I got a bad fender as I own a 1998 fender strat American deluxe that's a really great high quality guitar..different. But .as good as my ibanez ...so it looks like the Fender USA eventually caught up with the copies lol...I actually remember been pissed off after playing my mates Tokai strat and it been nicer than my pride n joy dream USA made guitar....of course now Japanese guitars are highly respected....funny enough Korean guitars took over and we're considered cheapo...but my 2007 epiphone casino with factory fitted bigsby begs to differ....ive played a real USA casino and the only thing noticeably better was...the pick ups...I own a nice Gibson les paul junior so I kinda knew this already...but im too lazy to swap them..lol...anyway I'm happy im not the only one who likes the necks. .I actually had one guy wanting to buy it off me just for the neck for his partsocaster...
I have one of these. My first electric guitar. I bought it new back in 84. I've bought and sold a lot of guitars over the years but would never part with my first real guitar.
Thanks for the great video. I had an RS135BK back in the day. Thought it was a great guitar until I acquired an MIJ '57 Reissue Fender Stratocaster. Absolutely no comparison in terms of playability and sound. The mid 80s MIJ Stratocasters are sweet instruments. The Ibanez was traded long ago. But I stil have the Stratocaster. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Cool review! I have the same one, in the same colour! It's an Ibanez RS205 to be exact. I've rewired the phase switch so that it now turns the neck pickup on all the time, so you can boost the thin bridge sound in 1st position (basically it works like a telecaster mid position), and in 2nd position you can have 3 single coil sounds at once. Much more useful in my opnion than a Phase switch. I also replaced the bridge with gotoh510 because it was going out of tune very quickly with the original bridge and the original saddles were worn out. Other than that, everything is original in mine. I fell in love this instrument, it's currently my main guitar.
It looks like the pickups on that one have been replaced with standard Stratocaster type pickups. The originals would have had bigger (flat) pole pieces. I also see that all three pitch/angle adjustment screws for the original pickups are missing. The original pickups are great...quite high output (almost like a Gibson P-90).
Yep. I had the exact same guitar as depicted in this video, and the polepieces were 1/4", and the pickups were indeed hot, and quite cleverly wired with the phase switch and everything. I have kicked myself in the ass over 9000 times in the years since I sold that guitar. It remains the most versatile guitar I ever picked up. With careful manipulation of the 5-way switch, the phase switch and the volume and tone, you could make it sound like a Gibson, a Fender, a Gretsch, whatever.
@@BrutishYetDelightful Yeah, mine's got phase and a coil-tap switches. Honestly, the phase reversal switch just makes it sound terrible in positions 2 and 4. However, the coil-tap is fantastic. It goes from powerful to "standard" Strat with a flick of the switch.
Yeah, they sounded somewhere between quarter pounders and humbuckers! :D They tried for the Original Schecter style; wider pole pieces and hotter windings for more gain, sustain and warmth ... mine never sounded like a Strat!
I wonder if changing out the nut for the older version with the brass nut would improve it a little bit ....that makes tiny difference in the tones your looking for.
I really like your Ibanez roadstar II in the burst with classy pick guard! I have a 1979 Ibanez roadster RS 300 TV in translucent red with maple neck with a brass nut! Both great series and sounding guitars!!
Yeah, I agree - it seams that we all the '83s are a bit wirdoes in a way '-) I felt a little concerned when you said that the guitar is kinda old ..but the rest of demo really nice. '-) Keep on bro!
These are great guitars, but unfortunately way overpriced these days. I own 4 roadstars, one was my first guitar I brought in the early 90’s. Fortunately ibanez made thousands of em and they are not particularly rare in Europe and the US. Shop around, dont pay the big bucks
Some of the first runs had different body woods, and later changed to basswood when production numbers were ramping up. If its heavy its possibly ash, or alder. Easiest way is to check the neck pocket. FWIW

Thank you! Sounds cool! Yeah, the phase switch is a bit of an unusual thing, so it makes sense to mod it.
Great guitars someone replaced the pickups, my 1984 still has originals, I've owned it since new
